Step by Step How to Make Artisan Bread

You will be able to make your own artisan bread if you follow these simple step by step procedure of making bread the way I show it here. That is a promise!


(1) To 1 cup of very warm water, add 1 tablespoons of sugar,
(2) and 1 teaspoon of Rapid Rise Yeast

(3) Stir to dissolve the sugar and yeast.


(4) While waiting for the yeast to bloom, measure out 3 1/2 cups bread flour into a large mixing bowl.

(5) Add 1-1/2 teaspoon salt, and stir salt into the flour.

(6) Add the fermented yeast plus 3/4 cup water, and stir well to hydrate all the flour.

(7) Scrape the sides of the bowl to get all the dry flour, continue to mix the dough. The dough will be wet and shaggy.

It should not take much effort or time to mix the dough... just about a minute or a minute and a half. I am not "kneading" the dough, I am simply mixing the dough to ensure that all the flour is hydrated with the liquid ingredients.

(8) Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or kitchen towel. Leave the bowl with dough to proof in a warm place of your kitchen for 1-1/2 hours to 2-1/2 hours or until the dough doubles its size. I put mine in the oven with the oven light on.

The dough should double in size. This was after 1-1/2 hr and it has doubled in size.

(9) Sprinkle the dough with flour. You can use your hands to do the next step (10) if you prefer. I am using a spatula.


(10) Pull the dough from the sides of the bowl to "degass" the dough. "Fold" the dough over and over and adding flour when needed. The dough will be sticky.

(11) Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or kitchen towel and let it rest to proof the second time for 30 minutes. In the meantime, preheat the oven.

(12) Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F with an empty dutch oven with lid. I am using an enameled 3 quart dutch oven. Take the pot out of the oven after 15 minutes.

(13) Put the dough inside the pot. You can use your hands to do this. Be careful if you do, the pot will be very hot!

(14) Generously flour the top of the dough. Using a sharp knife, slit the top of the dough. This is optional. It is just to give it a rustic look. Put the lid back on the pot.

(15) Bake at 450 degrees F for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, lower the oven temperature to 400 degrees and continue baking the bread UNCOVERED for 10 minutes or until the top of the bread has browned.

(16) Take the bread out of the pot to cool.

(17) Cool the bread for 10 minutes before slicing it. This bread was just out of the oven and is super hot. A perfect soft crumb!

Please, when you give it a try, let me know how it turns out, my bro @dwinsgsworld! Bread is so universal... flour, water and a little salt. I can survive with just bread and butter... lots of sweet butter, or balsamic vinegar and olive oil, hehehe!

WOW I should really study this, I buy "artisan" bread every week! It says that on the wrapper at least. It is good for store-bought bread, but I'm sure YOURS is about a MILLION X BETTER!!! 💕❣💟😻😻😻

You must try making your own bread... and teach your son too, @underground 😻. You can make delicious rolls using the same recipe! I guarantee you... it is better than store-bought bread. Freshly baked homemade bread! Tons of 🤗!

Yes, I 'retired' from Sparky Work, now I do maintenance for a local foundry. It's 9 miles away and I figure overall, I have surpassed the Million Kilometer mark in my years as an electrician... Less money but lots less gas and windshield time, but I'm doing better now than ever! I sure do not miss the inside of a boiler penthouse, all the ash and thermocouple wiring and all that LOL

Right on!! Good for you! Yeah power houses especially the penthouse are dusty and dirty!! Eww...I don't miss it either( been a couple of years since I moved more into oil production/gas refining or fertilizer facilities since powerhouses are slow for work these days. I do more than powerhouses tho, I float around from plant to plant with no specific attachments to any, diversifying my knowledge and following the money I guess. Right now we are gutting/rebuilding reactor internals. I can't say it's any cleaner or less strenuous than the boiler but the money is the same! Got another few weeks left of that. Dunno if they got more work for us at that plant after but other units are going down and we keep getting more work so we'll see. They don't tell us much other than keep showing up or don't come back, you know the shutty drill...lol! Just like you tho, I'm enjoying less windshield time as well, still half hour commute each way but better than 1h15m each way! I'm glad you are doing well and enjoying your new direction.

IDK if you ever get this far south but we have a fertilizer plant being made out of a Coal Gasifier (Terre Haute, IN) so look me up if you swing this far south LadyBugZ!

Alberta & Ontario are a hotbed for work and I like my time off to relax as well so I don't travel much but ya never know, I'll keep that in mind and def will look you up if I end up working south!

I hope for your sake you don't 'have to' come this far south, but I know it used to be easier to work here than for US peeps to go up 'Nort LOL
