"Are you telling me Nanna didn't suspect anything?" Andie asked, one elegant brow in the air as she worked on her hair in the mirror.

Ary made a face, "Oh she definitely did. There was a whole lotta "mhmm-ing" through my, er, fabricated story. When I was finished she said "You have really spread your wings this summer Aryanne, I hope you're flying straight." Then gave me a pointed look before going back to her knitting. You know communication has never been her strong suit, other than to give me pieces of advice."

"I do know that. I wonder if she's at a loss as to what to do since you've never given her a reason for too many rules. And now you're eighteen..."

"She got married at my age you know." Ary sighed, "I do feel a little bad, but I was with the guy I love, not doing any drugs, I mean it's not the worst thing I could have been up to."

"True." Andie looked away, at Ary's mention of 'feeling bad' her own guilt was pushing to the surface. She turned to face her friend and braced herself.

"Heyyy!" Sonja bounded into the room. "Are we going to Grayson's or what? I think Amanda's already on her way!"

Andie shut her mouth with an inner sigh. It would have to wait.

Grayson sank down on the couch in his private den and cracked open a beer, trying desperately to shake the feeling that he was making a mistake. How long had it been since he’d last felt like this? Since he’d last felt anything besides lust, curiosity, or anger? And even when he had it was always a fleeting thing he’d easily controlled or extinguished.

A surge of anger flowed through him. He was Grayson Teller, the son of James Teller, a pure descendant of one of the thirteen original bloodlines. There was no fucking way one silly girl could make him question a lifetime of proven truths. It had to be because he released inside of her during sex. He’d never done it with anyone else so he simply hadn’t realized the power of it. It was a logical conclusion, and his life was based on logic, not ridiculous notions of weak emotions that did not exist!

Rage exploded through him and he slammed his fist into the coffee table causing a hairline crack and busting open two of his knuckles. Pain shot up his arm and he welcomed it with a sense of relief as it eased the turmoil inside of him.

He took a deep breath and let it out slow, his mind clearing. No more questioning. Time to begin phase two.
