Words Driven Adventure - Week #1 - Choose Your Journey

[META] I would call it a successful start. In week one we already have a number of characters that would be satisfactory for almost any pen-and-paper role playing campaign. Of course, we could go wider so new members are always welcome.

So far those authors have joined and I invite all of them to continue as long as they feel like it:
@calluna, @veryspider, @improv, @sarez ... and @kele88 is still expected.

All of the story content (that we mark with [WA] for Words Adventure which is just a working title) can be found at this google doc:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Fv8-0YEvSUCGT4gsJz2VmO2s6x-NCWfEQLyskdkDH3k/edit?usp=sharing

It is my responsibility to update this one. You will find it summarized at least once a week, maybe twice in cases such as this one where I remind you of it and then give you something new to go along with.

And here is the previous post with the rules:
https://steemit.com/storytelling/@manoldonchev/introducing-the-words-driven-adventure-a-story-to-build-together

Yup, those were important rules, the main one being your entries are limited to 300 words per week distributed as you wish. And that number slowly increases. It could be kept track of through the google docs file above.

The guidelines I promised:

Do not suppose but ask - this is how it's normally done. We are not required to do it the way it is normally done, though. So I will accept your decisions on reality sometimes and edit in as much an unobtrusive way as I find possible.

I mean it is the host's job to show you what is and what happens when you try something, look for something, interact with something or someone who is not your character, pet or subordinate. Anyway, lets roll with it. I am happy that you create some environment of your own, too. This is how #freewrite experiments usually go, right, we all accept what has been first written. It's fine. Though I may still make layers to cover other layers sometimes.

You are free to act on any available information - both written by me or by other participants. You don't need to wait for my invitations although those will come as often as I can share a large piece of the picture.

Before I continue the story, I will again send an invite to people who have not yet responded with 'in' or 'out'. Although others also change their minds at anytime.

So I will also mention @jayna, @loreshapergames, @vdux, @felixgarciap, @bananafish, @ntowl, @f3nix, @delishtreats, @ediblecthulhu, @tarazkp, @kaelci, @felt.buzz, @gaby-crb, @anasav and everybody else some of you would invite plus evrybody who just found the post and liked the idea.

A summary of this week will come in two days and there is still time for anybody to be a part of it.

And now let's get back to adventuring:

[WA]
A working core of a committee has been established and others would be joining the effort of unraveling the mysterious disappearance. All expenses coming from the Commonwealth Funds would be kept records of but not denied.

A few clues have given hope of the success of the mission. Two of those stood out from the rest - a coincidence of a malfunction on planet Bob Marley and a surfacing selling offer coming from the domains of New Mo'.

The first of those places is known for its pacifist culture which focuses on the spiritual.

The second one is a bustling nest of 'free entrepreneurs' and their hordes of customers. A place where one could contact any type of specialist, receive any type of service or buy anything, forbidden or not, provided it is in stock. The perfect place to avoid taxes or attention.

Both planets share the same rim sector and both are pretty dry and dusty with large desert areas and sparse vegetation. Water supplies are the major import of New Mo' while Bob Marley relies mostly on subterranean sources.

Wood is an expensive commodity on New Mo' and sending treefolk there is similar to sending naked males in a female only prison. It would be illegal to touch but still...

The Council warns once more about the unknown aspects of the 'Halloween Tomes Accident' - neither the purpose, nor the means of the theft can yet be explained, let alone talk about the entity behind it.

[META]

You are all free to choose if your characters would go to any of those places or look for information elsewhere. You may travel alone or as a group. Somebody could always stay behind and communicate with the others easily or join them later almost as easily. But sometimes not. Malfunctions occur, you know already.

You may describe your preparations or your intentions upon arrival... or at the place you choose to stay or go to instead. It is ok to always ask me about the existence or details of a construct not yet mentioned in the story. It is my responsibility to invent and give you an answer.

Or you can make social interactions with the others or with non-player characters (NPCs). For instance: 'I / he/she/it (my character) am/is looking for someone who .../ for a...'

Asking meta questions does not take words out of your words balance. And is welcome.

Good luck and have fun!

Yours,

Manol

[META] Thank you. You have 101 words remaining. And 3 new words awarded.

Yes, Ria can dock in safely and make contacts.

About the scarce information on the small satellite:

[WA] The FSA Observer M-U34 has been dedicated to a specific area - a natural rock phenomenon 2230 (land) clicks N-NE from Port Redemption. Physical anomalies have been reported since before observations began and have also been registered after.

Asimov VI xenoarchaeology professor Van Marcken was the only person to communicate with the observer unit during the past six months, his last entry - less than a week ago. The same person has been reported missing just two standard days ago by family members.

His entries were all encrypted. Official A. VI Academy code which would be easy to break were it not illegal. It would be 'impossible' to leave no traces of breaking it.

[WA: Arch]

With a compulsion I can't fight, my tail tenses, and I step forwards to speak,

"I've worked freelance out of New Mo' before, although I'd prefer not return there alone."

[META] Well done! This alone brings you 6 new words and a 0.10 SBD sponsored @treeplanter upvote on a post of yours... coming sometime soon.

You have 168 words remaining this week.

[WA: Arch] No one volunteers, and faced with the prospect of returning to a planet where no questions are answered for free alone, I decide to make a quick stop by the committees private quarters on my way to the ship yard, see if I can find anything worth flogging.

[META] Well, somebody did volunteer. Kind of. Please, have a look at my new week's post and consider if I should accept you entry above or if you would make a new one instead:
