#SublimeSunday - Random Shots from Saturday August 31st, 2019

in #sublimesunday5 years ago

I'd originally started putting this post together for last Sunday (the day after I'd taken random shots from Saturday August 31st in my yard), but as the Steem blockchain was having a bit of a hiccup, I decided to wait until today. You'd think that with an entire week to get it done, I'd have posted it first thing this morning! Yeah, but as per usual, real life got jealous of my cyber life, and demanded more attention. How rude! 😂

Also, it didn't help that I spend a few hours off and on that afternoon, hanging around outside with my Nikon. By the time all was said and done, I had around 250 shots to comb through, and more than enough material for a Feathered Friday (or two), a Sepia Saturday, and probably four posts devoted solely to dragonflies (since about 80 of my usable shots featured them). And believe me, I'm not complaining in the slightest!

One last thing before I get on with my captures, be sure to check out tag host @c0ff33a's most recent #SublimeSunday post for more info on this wicked cool initiative - 🙌🏽Sublime Sunday🙌🏽 An excuse to post your random, creative or crazy ideas by @c0ff33a ☕️. He has some great photos of dangly flowers and crashing waves!

Now here are my #SublimeSunday Random Shots from Saturday, August 31st

  Random Shots from Saturday
Yep, it's that time of year already! Seems like just yesterday it was July, and now these guys are popping up on the ground. I'm planning to use a different shot of this leaf in a future Sepia Saturday post, illustrating how I do the whole sepia thing.

Same leaf, with the sun shining behind it.

I was trying to show how brilliant this goldenrod (or is it ragweed? I always get them confused) looked. It wasn't until I pulled the pics off my camera that I noticed the little inch worm...

  Random Shots from Saturday
...seems he noticed me though! I swear I can almost see a little arm waving hello. 😂

  Random Shots from Saturday
Not surprising for the last day of August - little bits of fall color are starting to appear...

  Random Shots from Saturday
....everywhere I turned, there was a smidge...

  Random Shots from Saturday
...or a sprinkling...

  Random Shots from Saturday
...although the lawn is still a gorgeous shade of green!

  Random Shots from Saturday
I've noticed the occasional red berry on our landlady's rose bush, but I had no idea what they actually were until I decided to Google today...

  Random Shots from Saturday
...these are actually Rose Hips! While there are hardly ever any on this bush, I'm definitely going to keep my eyes peeled in the future for these nutritional and versatile little gems!

  Random Shots from Saturday
Naturally, because the sun was setting, I had to get some shots of the Rover Bellflowers backlit by the rays...

  Random Shots from Saturday
...then I noticed a couple of dandelions that escaped our landlord's weed wacker, and got some shots of them as well....

....like, one or two shots...

...or three...

...make that four....

...okay, five! In all honesty, it was more like a dozen shots, but these were my favorites. And since Sublime Sunday is all about, "random, creative or crazy ideas" I decided to do a couple of funky edits with this shot.

Here it is in Super B&W

And again, in my favorite shade of purple.

It was around this time that I started stalking dragonflies. Here's one of the bazillion I got of a guy perched on the antennae of hubby's truck.

I also got some shots of the beautiful blue sky...

...with the beautiful clouds...

...such a cumulus hodge podge!

...I took close to 20 different shots, but again, these were my favorites.

Then one final shot of the setting sun before I stopped pestering the dragonflies, and went inside.

Happy #SublimeSunday! Hope you enjoyed my random shots from Saturday

Lovely Sunday photos! Doesn't it feel great to be out taking new photos? You certainly got some good ones and I look forward to seeing more. Does ragweed get flowers on it?

Thanks so much, @melinda010100! Yes, it was an amazing feeling - which is probably why I ended up taking so many shots. And I always thought it did... hmmm... may have to do some more Googling. 😊

Hope you're feeling better, and that you had a restful and pain-free weekend! 🤗

Thanks, Traci. I am healing nicely. Even my scraped up elbow is looking better!
I always thought that ragweed had a nondescript rather green bloom.

That's good to hear, Melinda! I hope everything continues to heal up fast!

Okay, you'd think that with a name like, "Goldenrod" it would be obvious what it would look like... LOL! I just did a Google search, and you're absolutely right - they don't look anything alike. Not sure how they got confused in my head, but I'm pretty sure I'll remember from here on out. Thanks for getting me to finally look it up. 😊

I think because the goldenrod is so showy and it blooms about the same time as ragweed that people just assume it is the goldenrod that is causing their allergies. I love goldenrod and always feel the need to defend it!

My faves are the leaf against the sun, the dragonfly and the dandelion. Very nice shots!

Thanks so much, @toddrjohnson! A few years back, I saw a local friend who posted fall leaves backlit by the sun, and I've done it myself a few million times once or twice since then. Much appreciate your kind words. 😊

Been a long time since I have seen a dragonfly and a truck antenna.

Nice images.

Namaste, JaiChai

Glad you like them, @jaichai. And thanks! 😊

I just love those dandelion shots - you cannot have too many! As for the dragonfly - you know I'm a sucker for those... Looking forward to more of those around here in the coming months.

We are surrounded by beauty. We just need to stop and look more closely. From a weed to a branch or a leaf beauty is everywhere around us. You have really good shots here. The rose hips I think I heard somewhere, it is like used for the skin or something. Ah I can't remember. Anyway have an amazing day there.

It’s always nice to stop and enjoy the little things in life. They often get overlooked as everyone is rushing in a million directions.

I’ve had this one plant that blooms every couples of years at best. It always a nice surprise when it does. I hope you get to capture the moment when the rose blooms.

Beautiful photos, I especially love the dragon fly - we don’t see them much in the UK anymore. We have rose hips though, we had big bushes of them in the garden when I was a boy - but I just used them as ammo for throwing at my friends lol
