Yes, some of them are furry like that. The hairs act both as sunscreen and an insulation against water loss. Water vapour that is released when the stomata open at night stays close to the plant instead of evaporating and the higher relative humidity prevents large amounts of water loss. It's also good camouflage and protection against insects eating it

Now that is what you call a smart plant. So many functions with huge benefits. It would also serve as a protection from people who are scared of spiders and don't know much about plants. Like me heheheh. Though I wouldn't go poking it in the first place anyways.
