My laptop had just returned from maintenance

in #technology5 years ago

As said in my last blog, I sent my laptop for a thermal paste replacement a few days ago. Originally I wanted to procrastinate a little more and delay this to the next semester break, but the condition was a little too bad for me to really do it. How bad, you ask? By just using Discord and a web browser, the CPU temperature shot up to 60 degrees Celcius, which was previously only reachable by gaming. I was worried that if I continued to ignore the problem, the laptop might hate me and give me random shutdowns from time to time due to the heat... so off I went.

I had to leave my laptop at the computer shop for a day for them to clean it up (due to the fact that it is not that easy to disassemble a thinner laptop and clean up the dust that have been accumulated inside the box for two years), and to be frank, it is surprisingly hard to live without my own laptop... there are just a little too many things I use it for. Managed to live on the phone for a day, and now I’m finally back at the laptop writing this post. Gotta love typing on a real physical keyboard, I guess @nickyhavey would agree?

As soon as the guy at the computer shop rang me up I grabbed the car key and rushed to the store to pick it back. Can’t find words to explain the frustration of not having my laptop by my side, but I guess it’s some sort of over-reliance. Bad thing, but it’s really hard to get it treated. I guess you’ll agree, too.

According to the repairing guy, the thermal paste on my CPU was almost entirely dry when he opened the thing up. Thermal paste in good condition can help with releasing the heat of the chip, while for mine...of course, it did little to no help. Not to mention that there have been so much dust accumulating inside the system that did negative help to heat releasing. I’m not very sure where the dust comes from, but thinking the fact that my dorm is full of dust and I did nothing to cover the keyboard from them, probably that’s why.

He did the thermal paste replacement and internal cleaning for me, and now my laptop is finally functioning at some nice temperature :) Not really the best temperature for me yet (I can still reduce it by a few more degrees by underclocking), but it’s significantly better than what I had in the past.

(This is with Discord, a word processor, a YouTube video playing in the background and three more tabs including Steemit)

Previously I can see a lot of dust from this airhole, but now it’s clean :)

Someone once said that if you treat a computer properly, it can serve you for a very long time, and I hope I did my part - I still need it for years to come. Can’t afford it to hate on me, lol.

I guess that’s all for now, see you next time :D

I have the advantage that my boyfriend it's a computer technician xD so my gadgets are always clean and good! It truly is a problem living without you computer or phone. Good to see your laptop buddy is nice and clean now haha

Yeah, it's always good to have someone to do the cleaning for you by your side...in my home, I am the technical guy but sadly I'm too bad with hardware stuff haha.

Dang hahaha so sad, you'll have to practice? I don't know how you can learn that type of things

Posted using Partiko Android

Not sure, but I'm definitely not experimenting on my laptop. Lol.

Posted using Partiko Android

Yeah exactly, but if you can't practice in your things xD how people can learn do that for themself? I guess there is no autodidactic hardware technicians

Well...sure, will experiment on it if I get a new laptop 🤣🤣 my fingers aren't too good when it comes to small things like these so have to make sure nothing can go too wrong!

Habits become ingrained my friend, that's why I would be lost without this old PC friend of mine. Now and then I do clean it and even though I have a much stronger one sitting in a cupboard, I simply cannot break away from this one.
Glad your Laptop is good again!
Blessings!

Cleaning it from time to time is a good habit too! :)

I rarely leave my gadgets at the maintenance shop. I do not trust them. Thank God you received yours

Well...I know my way, if they did anything bad I would just make my day a little brightier by suing them. You know, that works. (Over here at least).

I do not trust the maintenance group enough to leave them my gadgets. Thank God you got yours in one piece

Great that you got things fixed! It's tough to spend any time disconnected from the world!

Well, not totally disconnected...just not being able to do things in the way I was used to!
