New Minnow on the Block(chain), next step: DolphinsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #tenkminnows5 years ago (edited)

A week ago @cryptoandcoffee invited me to join the @tenkminnows initiative to reach the level of 500 Steem Power which resulted in my first post regarding this goal.

Today, I reached the Minnow level

Let us be clear and honest from the start, the real reason I reached this level in such a short time is that I bought a bunch of Steem with FIAT (a will continue doing so the following weeks and potentially months)

Nonetheless, the #TenkMinnows initiative gave me a so much more, most importantly a lot of exposure to a wider audience and a big *WELCOME!

Who knows whether I would have bought more without this support and kept on posting to grow from an account but also personal perspective:

My reputation went up from 40 to 48

  • More Likes…
  • And more high Quality Likes & Comments
  • Increase in Followers & Followings
  • Etc.

Honestly, I feel like this is huge coming from max. 10 cents per post after almost 3 weeks on Steemit – going to 1$ per post within a week.

The 2 most important benefits

But maybe the most important factors for this growth were that the initiative brought me new relationships on Steemit and taught me so much:

Steemit relationships

2 days ago I read a post about the change in the mindset of a fellow steemian going from the goal to reaching the Minnow level towards basically just enjoying the process (which led to achieving the goal a lot faster). This is what happened to me within my first month on Steemit thanks to all the support and also because I immediately jumped onto this opportunity.

I met so many amazing and supportive people that is fun interacting with, exchanging thoughts about the platform and learning from them!

Thanks to all of you for the support @steevc, @revisesociology, @paulag, @abh12345, @macoolette @niallon11, @cryptoandcoffee and my supportive followers like @lion200 or @hansgans so on and so forth!

(Please excuse me if I forgot any of you)

What I learned in this week

From all the new connections and exposure on Steemit, I learned quite a lot. I realized that having a lot of followers is not as important on Steemit as on other plattforms, some of them might be inactive anyways…

After all a trending topic on Steemit is defined by the Steem Power behind it: If my goal is to spread my ideas to a wide audience, this is the main key – if I just want to share something cool with my close connections, a small amount of Followers is enough here. If I want to spread my content, quality followers and relationships seem to be the key.

What I also learned is that this platform is the center of crypto for me! Why? Yes, there are many people here that just want to “earn a buck” from their content. But this platform is the best representation of the future of crypto and dapps! There are not many other projects I know that have such a community and working platform.

Steemit is my platform to stay for the long-term…very looooong!

Thanks again to everyone!

I am looking forward to 2019 with all of you :)

Happy it made a difference and now you are on your way. 5000 SP is the next goal and you will make it. Just keep doing what you are doing and remember to keep your voting power over 80 %.

Thank you again, wouldnt have happened without you. Will follow your advice, although I am not quite sure why above 80%? And how to best use my voting power. Maybe you have a great article to recommend?

Keeping your voting power up makes the value of the vote you are handing out bigger plus your curation earned on it is better for you.

Thank you!

@src3 Wauw man! You made it! Congratulations! Thanks for the mention. I am happy for you. I know you will keep posting quality content. Wont take long to reach your next goal ;)

I completely agree with you about quality vs quantity.

"I realized that having a lot of followers is not as important on Steemit as on other plattforms, some of them might be inactive anyways…"

Followers aren't important - getting lots of votes, or a few votes from higher ranking Steemers is.

"Enjoying the process" is pretty much meaningless unless you have that. I've been on Steemit since a few months after it started, and had to take a hiatus when my wife died. I came back and my earnings became worse than ever. Not only do I have less power to contribute money to a message I like, but I earn less per message I create - often nothing at all for hours or even days of effort. Just look at who upvoted your post - they almost all have rep in the 60s and 70s, so of course you're getting dollars per message.

I've never been part of a voting block, but I don't turn out trash content, either. It doesn't matter, though. I'd either have to join a voting block like yours or I'd need to spend a lot of time curating the work of others. Steemit is not the pot at the end of the rainbow...

I wish you success!

Thank you for your comment and I wish you all the best in your personal situation! This is a difficult situation and I hope you find strength anywhere you can get it!

I can see you are also someone with good content, you got my follow :)

Thank you so much for being an awesome Partiko user! You have received a 10.67% upvote from us for your 2205 Partiko Points! Together, let's change the world!

Nice!!! You must have been close to Minnow?

Still, welcome to the 1% club!

Thank you! Yes indeed, I was getting very close to it and already got my first larger rewards :)

I think the team can still count this as a result :D Nice one!

Definitely, the tenkminnows initiative needs a lot of props and thanks :)

Congratulations - I know steem's far from being all about the money but a 1K SP vest gives you much more agency on the platform, which helps!

Obviously it's a risk but we're all in the same boat. My approach is to buy in gradually - 50-100 steem at a time. I just see it as diversifying

And of course investment aside there's plenty decent people around here to make it all worthwhile besides.

Nice gif btw. I would've thought there's plenty of scope for you to contribute and earn as a blockchain dev, through Utopian maybe?

Posted using Partiko Android

Thanks :)

Yes, I was having a look at itopian-io the past days as they are pretty big here. Didn't fully understand what they do, will have a closer look on there website.

It definitely helped going from 100 to 500, we'll see what difference will be going from 500 to 1K.

I like your approach to gradually add more. This is what I do with all my investments and do with Steemit for sure.

When I started here people posted that they started for Steem and stayed because of the people, I was surprised that this seems to be true :)

Also thanks for the gif compliment!

I'm nt sure how Utopian works either - I'm not a coder so I never looked into it fully.

If you can make GIFs like that easily I'm sure there's an avenue for reward too. I recently paid @teamhumble 100 steem to make me one for advertising - somone else on here sells signature giffs. Also there must be some creative curation initiatives thatll reward you - @sndbox maybe.

There's a nice crowd about for sure!

Oh boy, you give value on this platform! I see an even brighter future for you on steemit and social media networks in general :) I will check out all of them! Thanks

Cheers!

Well I already make a living online (in a pretty niche area) and Social Media is part of that, although TBH Google's search algorithm is a far more important variable in driving traffic than my SM presence, although I imagine the later influences the former.

No way for me to measure the significance unfortunately

Steem's just for fun.

Wish you all the best in the future. Having a great site and traffick is amazing, I believe that everyone will have to build an online presence for which steemit is my choise :) mainly because it is fun and full of like minded people

There is so much more to the platform than the earnings which won't make any of us rich. What you will get here is a community and an experience that I have not seen anywhere else. It's an outlet that you can be a part of rather than just following along.

Projects like #tenkminnows give so much more than a few upvotes, they give motivation and opportunity. Great to see that you jumped on the chance to be a part of it and did it so successfully. Unless you enjoy being here there is no point to grinding away here. Enjoyment should be first and everything else is a benefit.

This is so true, thank you for your motivating and inspiring words!
