Las Vegas bound

in #travel5 years ago

Life is too precious to let slip by without "giving it a crack"; Giving it a go I mean. Wringing the best out of it is critical in my opinion; It allows one to look back with no, or little, regret and to get the most out of the days, weeks, months and years we spend on the planet. Getting amongst it makes living our best life a little easier.

It is to that end I've been considering a trip to America for November this year to attend SEMA the worlds premier automotive trade event rated right up there with events like the Geneva or Frankfurt Motor Shows. SEMA is held in Las Vegas and incorporates educational seminars, product demonstrations, special events, networking opportunities and more. It's an industry thing and the public are not permitted. One can't simply buy tickets to attend. The only way in is by being in the industry. It's a typical trade event and attracts many, many thousands of people from all over the world. How then do I think I'll get in? Well, I have an inside man.

My brother, the one who is not on steemit, has suggested I attend the show with him in 2019 and considering the event is such an exclusive thing I've been considering going; For me it'd be a once-in-a-lifetime thing. My brother is in the automotive industry in Europe. He has a few things going on from a business perspective including a company that builds cars; Awesome, award-winning custom cars. He also knows some of America's best and brightest industry-minds; He counts them as good friends and hangs out with them. I'll not mention their names however if you are even remotely interested in classic and custom cars you will probably have seen them on TV. My brother heads over there to talk and conduct business, check out the latest stuff and network. It's a productive trip for him. I just want to experience SEMA.

He's been to the last several shows and every year it seems to be bigger and better and each year I've seen his photos and wished I could go. I wasn't about to ask though preferring to be invited, which happened mid year in 2018 when I was in Europe. Since then I've been deliberating and weighing it up whilst my brother is moving on with plans for the SEMA trip 2019.

Here's the thing though. I'm not sure if I can afford to go. Well, that's not quite true. I can afford to go however am not sure if I want to afford to go, despite wanting to go so much. The problem is that we're going to Europe in 2020 to see my family and going to America will take precious funds away from that trip. I can do both however considering the finances I think it may be irresponsible of me to do so.

Despite wanting to go so much, and our ethos of living our best life, we've been seriously considering the viability of the trip. We are not willing to compromise our trip to Europe because seeing family is very important, especially @smallsteps, as we want to be part of their lives. So at this point we are thinking that skipping SEMA is the right thing to do as much as we would really love to go. It means SEMA won't happen until 2021 however it gives us a lot of time to plan ahead for it and maybe instead of a two week USA SEMA trip we could possibly extend it out to four of five.

We are yet to come to a firm decision however I'm pretty sure we'll skip it. I guess it comes down to wants and needs, like most things in life on which we spend our money. Do we need to go to SEMA...No, we do not. Do we need to go Europe...Well, no but also yes. It's important to me to see my family and if you all knew @smallsteps like I do then you'd want to be there too. She is adorable and irresistible.

We go without many things to have the ability to do, and have, other things that are important to us including holidays and we always consider financial matters stringently before reaching decisions. It has worked for us in the past and should do the same moving forward. Can SEMA wait? Yeah, I think it can.

Sort:

well, it might be hard to pay for now but maybe by that time the crypto scene has recovered a bit and you can use some of those proceeds to pay for the "extra" trip without compromising your europe adventure...

why not put all SBD you make from now on the side (take it out of steem and on to some stable coin?) and then make the decision last minute?

That would be nice I guess, for crypto to come to the party! I have to make a decision very soon though as other decisions revolve around my choice to go or not. I'll see how it pans out I suppose, in the near future.

All about weighing up the best option.

Yeah. We'll go to SEMA, sometime. It's not like my brother's business is going away anytime soon. I reckon we'll incorporate it into an extended USA trip.

Sounds like a better idea to make a bigger trip of it.

Vegas is fun and everyone should go once if they can. Just don't confuse it for being like anything else in the USA. :)

I actually have zero interest in going to Vegas; It's SEMA I'm interested in. I once had someone say that I should go to Vegas to see the Eiffel Tower and some thing they made up to be like Venice...Well, I've been to the real thing, both Venice and Paris, a few times...No interest in going to Vegas to see a copy of it.

Still, having said that if I'm there for SEMA I'll check out Las Vegas a little too. I'd like to helicopter of the Grand Canyon and also do the donkey ride down as well. Also I've heard Hoover Dam is something to see and so I think I'd do that too.

I reckon we'll do USA in 2021 on a longer trip, say 5 weeks, and incorporate SEMA into that trip. We're more committed to go to Europe again. It's more our style.

Do the girls come with the car mate? 🤣 Why not go - you only live once.

SK.

It's a lot of money for 5 days...We're thinking it may be better to leave it for 2021 when we can spend 5 weeks there.

You know what's best, but I agree with another comment here. You only live once. Travel while you still can, that's my motto ;) Anyway, I'm sure you'll make a wise choice.

I'm sure I'll work something out. I'm actually a billionaire so I don't why I'm worried about the money. Not.

For a car enthusiast, that could be an awesome trip. Being that you're also a niece enthusiast, that's a tough call. I think smallsteps will enjoy seeing you more than the cars will though.

I think you're right. I'll get more hugs out of @smallsteps than the cars 😂

It doesn’t seem to be a “once in the lifetime opportunity” so I would agree with you in that it is best to maintain you finances for what really matters and those unexpected events that always occur. I am sure there will ben opportunities as maybe the time you go you may see the first real flying car the way things are going in the industry!

I agree with you in that I think I'll have other opportunities. I mean it's not like I'm choosing to do nothing...A Europe trip is still awesome right?
