RE: NYPD Smart Cars: I can't help but laugh

in #travel5 years ago

That's a pretty tragic story dude. I haven't had any bad experiences with cops in NYC, one time when i was dreadfully lost a cop actually gave me a ride to my sister's house but maybe the NYC cops had already underwent some sort of sensitivity training at that point :)

Sort:

Well, I do remember it being like that at one point. I got a ride from one when I was a young teen back in the late 80s. But then, about 5 years later my friend and I were hitchhiking to Florida from Ohio and a cop pulled over in front of us and told us we couldn't walk on the side of the highway.

So we asked him if he could give us a ride to the next exit, and he replied "I am not allowed to put people in my car unless they are under arrest"... So we started to walk to toward the exit and he stopped us "You can't walk on the side of the highway.."

So basically we had to walk up the side of a cliff and walk through thorn bushes and tall weeds in order to get to the next exit, and not get arrested for ignoring the cop.. The exit was about 1/2 a mile away.

I always say that good cops understand the difference between a law and the reasonable enforcement of said law. The guy in your story would not qualify for this honor.

I agree wholeheartedly.
