RE: Travel Story: Hitchhiking to Perito Moreno Glacier & Washing Clothes on a River

in #travel6 years ago

Ahhhh sailing is easy, not dying in a storm however is a complete new beast hahahaha

Well, as for the bike. I do need to work on my saddlebags (back and front) and they need to be water proof, water supply (instaling more holders) and iluminations (back and front). Guess the logistics adapts along the way and things naturally find their place. Taking the tools to work on the bike if needed is a must.

The roads are not bad, but traffic can be quite intense on some places. Planning the route carefully is a good idea. To avoid highways and all.

Now, windsurfing in ice land! I'd say that you are a brave man, my friend. How cold was that?

Hehe sailing is easy, sounds like you can sail pretty good? Surviving storms is my kinda thing sounds like we could team-up 🤣
But serious, when we have the opportunity to meet we must go out for a sail! Think we can learn a lot from each other.

Waterproofness in Brasil hehe didn't think about it but offcourse it's raining there it has a lot of rainforest. First thoughts I had by Brasil are ☀️🏄‍♂️⚽. Stupid 🙈
You're right about the tools, but even for a short ride on your bike you better be prepared. Flat tyre is a thing that can always happen, or a broken chain...
You did such a long travel on your bike before?

Windsurfing in Iceland was at its coldest with -15C. I must admit that sounds really cold, but actually the water from the oceans around Iceland are much warmer then the air temperature. So only when you get out of the water and need to get out of the wetsuit that's freezing ☃️. We even camped there and with proper equipment that's a piece of cake.

Yeah man! Guess we have the same adventure ideas, would be cool to meet-up somewhere in this world!

I don't have a boat yet, guess I'll start looking for it once I get to Paraty late this year. However, I've sailed with friends sometimes. I had been reading a lot about sailing theory and all, but to be honest, once I entered the boat and we started moving I though - Ok, it's only this? - hahaha

You did such a long travel on your bike before?

Yeah, in Feb. a friend and I traveled to Uruguay to buy our MTBs and cycled the way back to Brazil, something line 400+ km. This next trip though is going to be much longer, thus requiring more prep.

WOW that picture! Paradisiac and much different than our hot tropical beaches.I've only encoutered -15C once on top of a mountain in Argentina, it felt cold but not freezing, air was quite dry.
My state in Brazil is the shouthernmost one, so here during the winter it quite cold, can go down to 0C or even negative. But nothing close to -15C.

Maybe we can think of an pirate adventure ☠️ 😉
Paraty isn't that the village that gets flooded with high tide? You'll need a boat by then for sure!

400km to buy a bike!? you couldn't order it online? 😅 Hehe that's what I call searching for an adventure around every corner. Why did you get it in Uruguay?

Think your -15 and the Icelandic do feel the same. The winters here we have usually around a few degrees below zero and because of the humidity it always feel colder then the cold I've experienced in Iceland.

Paraty isn't that the village that gets flooded with high tide? You'll need a boat by then for sure!

Exactly! It's a paradise, all the boats going up and down the coast stop there, people from all over the world.

HAHAHA about the bike, everyone asks that same question 'couldn't you buy in brazil?' hahah We basically took a bus all the way to Montevideo (hitchhiking failes miserably), packed everything and cycled back. Uruguay is great for that type of trip, super nice country.

Let's go sailing!
