Ulog No. 24: "Trip to Coffin Bay"
I'm so glad I chose Port Lincoln as our getaway destination this time around, since it's closer to our town and we could also get to visit the surrounding and nearby towns.
Our itinerary on Friday, 13th July was Coffin Bay, which is only a 35-minute drive from Port Lincoln. We wanted to try the "world's famous oysters" that this little town is famous for, and while we're there, buy a couple of dozen to bring back home.
It was such a beautiful, scenic drive. I was in awe of how fertile their plains and fields are - not like the other parts of Eyre Peninsula where all you can see is salt bush and red soil. I was so excited when I knew we were almost there. I could see the calm waters of the bay already. Words cannot describe the absolute beauty and magnificence I experienced here - the same way I felt when we went to Kangaroo Island six years ago. Coffin Bay is, without a doubt, another paradise in South Australia.
Driving Through Coffin Bay Conservation and National Park
Because we didn't drive a 2WD or a 4WD, we just contented ourselves driving through the national park. We would have loved to drive xalong the white sand dunes and the shores. We parked under the shade and walked along the beach instead - very romantic.
I would love to come here again in summer to explore the beach and walk barefoot on the white sand. I love the calmness of the waters and the serenity on the beach. I just don't know how quiet the place is during summer though.
The narrow and winding road made me feel nauseous at one stage, but I'm glad it went away when we saw some emus by the side of the road.
We pulled over and stopped briefly to take photos of them. It's always an exhilarating experience to see wildlife up close as if seeing them for the very first time.
Support the Locals
After an almost an hour of slow driving through the national park, we delighted ourselves to an afternoon meal at Beachcomber Café. They use sort of like a remote control with alarm that goes off when your food is ready, instead of servers calling your name out. It's really cool and clever. When our alarm went off, we went to the counter and got our plates. By the way, John and I ordered the same thing - Salt and Pepper Lemon Squids with Chips and Salad. Then before we left the café, we bought two dozens of Coffin Bay oysters for $14.50 per dozen.

A romantic Friday the Thirteenth aye? Sounds fun! Emus are funny looking creatures, they are a type if bird right? Ive seen them in Sonoma California as I drive around there. Did you know red is the hardest color for your eyes to see. It really does hurt my eyes to look at red especially against a black background. Oh the joys of having blue eyes.
Yeah, who says Friday the 13th always carries bad luck? :-) Yes, emus are birds, they're like the ostriches of Australia. Sorry, if the red font hurts your eyes when you read my posts. Un-toggle night mode if you must. I love blue eyes!!! It's like looking at sea or the sky when I look at someone's blue eyes.
