A Wednesday Walk Along The Conowingo Trail (3-13-2019)
It's been way too long since I've gotten out for a nice walk. Yesterday was chilly but not bitterly cold so we (husband, son and me) headed to Conowingo, Maryland to take a short walk along a trail there. I took these two photos as soon as we stepped out of the truck.
You can see part of the Conowingo Dam in the background of the second photo above. It is a large hydroelectric dam in the lower Susquehanna River. This area is known for bald eagle sightings and at the beginning of the trail there is an information board that tells you a little about the bald eagles there. Hopefully, we'll get to see some today.
The water was really high today. We've had a lot of rain here so that was to be expected. It is really pretty though.
Getting out to places like this is like therapy for me. Been a rough few months for me so this was just what I needed. I suspect it will be a rough for a while yet so I do believe that I'll need quite a few of these "therapy" sessions.
I've made it this far and we continue on...
The railroad tracks, along this trail, were built when the dam was being built to get supplies in and up to the build site.
There are ponds along the trail and in a couple of months they will be swimming with tadpoles..hee hee...swimming with tadpoles! But really there will be lots of tadpoles and frogs. Of course, even though I knew it was too soon for them, it still didn't keep me from looking. I love all of the different reflections in the water.
Before long I had made it this far...
That is a big accomplishment for me but I knew I wouldn't be able to continue too much further. I did continue on but did not reach the next marker and still had to turn around and walk back. I did take more photos though and even found some mushrooms that were up in a tree.
At about this point we heard an eagle above us. We, actually, spotted two of them on this trip out but I was not able to get a good photo so I'm gonna cheat and insert a photo I took from a previous trip. Full disclosure This next photo was taken on a previous trip..lol!
Okay! Time to turn around and take more photos on our way back!
Not a whole lots of colors but there will be more soon enough when Spring arrives. I did find a few colors though.
I spotted this little "burly" looking tree.
Lots of neat looking trees! Standing tall and laying down but all beautiful!
Hmmm..I may be getting carried away with all these photos? I think I will have to save some for another post but just a few more for this one.
This last marker is for the people who walk from the other end of the trail. That is closer to where the bluebells bloom. It is an awesome sight if you can catch them blooming. It doesn't last long at all. We will try walking from the other end next time and maybe we'll get lucky enough to see them. The trail is approximately 2.25 miles long.
I took these last two photos when we got back to the truck. I was in quite a bit of pain but tried not to let it show. As some of you know I have CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome). The last few months have been especially hard both physically and mentally for many reasons. I worry that my husband may cut me off from outings like this even though I know he wouldn't really because he knows it's good for my Soul and helps me forget some things going on if just for a little while! Totally worth it! 😊

Fantastic walk @deerjay I'm jealous of your eagle picture, even thou it's from another time. We have eagles here but hard to get decent pictures. Be well ... :-)
Thanks so much @manorvillemike!! Photographers are always there trying to get photos. I only had my phone camera as it wasn't a planned trip this time. The eagles I saw yesterday were too fast for me but it was still so cool to see them.
Beautiful pictures! Would love to take a walk there.

Capturing a photo of the eagle was wonderful and all the fungi on the trees.

I love to get out to places like this and I really needed it. I was happy to find some mushrooms for variety since not much greenery yet and they are just fun to find..lol! Love to see the eagles even if I'm not able to capture them. ;)
