Wednesday Walk

in #wednesdaywalk6 years ago (edited)

This post is for the #WednesdayWalk by @tattoodjay (JJ)

Here are the guidelines for this challenge:

Try and get out once a week for a short walk, can be from your office, home or anywhere really and walk for a few blocks or a few minutes looking for things to get shots of.

Try and get a few shots, not just one

You can look for anything in general or decide on one subject you want to focus on.

Try to limit yourself to a set distance or time from the starting location, say five Blocks, five minutes walk or whatever and see what you can find in that short distance.

Do a post with the shots you get on a Wednesday and tag it with #wednesdaywalk, also if you happen to join it this week please leave a link to your post in a comment on this post and I will try and visit them all.

I am not strict on these rules and hence why they are called guidelines and not rules.

I love posting for him! I can make my own rules! Bonus!!

First... there must be flowers! Always!

I know that my post is all about the walk, but, I have to be honest, I need a little help this morning. Who doesn't need a little go-juice in the morning? Except for our host, he doesn't need it. He is all a go-go without it.

But that is my cup and no he doesn't live within 1,000 miles of me

So, on to the walk!! It was an absolutely gorgeous day! Every day that I am vertical and walking about, I count as a win. Every day is a gift, one that I never intend to take for granted and one that I will not waste.

Life is so fleeting.

I usually walk in one of the Civil War Battlefields. It almost completely surrounds where I live, giving me the nature that I crave and the city that I love. Not this shot, that is just the neighborhood.

I walk along, meander through, pop in, stroll aside and sometimes run the length of the battlefield. It is a beautiful place, teaming with life, nature, and people. Although there are days I see not a soul. I do my best thinking as me and nature commune.

20180524_084019.jpg

It has so many trails and paths. You could literally walk there all day long and never do the same path twice. It makes for an interesting walk each and every day. There are a lot of birders out there and they have been teaching me the call of some of them.

Cool beans.

I sometimes will take Henry, our horse out there. Horses are allowed on the battlefield. That makes him very happy! I can saddle him up at the house. I don't even have to trail him down. I digress. Focus! This is my walk.

I am surrounded by wild daisies. Everywhere, I look, their happy little faces are smiling at me.

They are not very impressive looking, but, I remain impressed nonetheless. Right in the middle of the battlefield, a Civil War Cemetery.

I found this kind of odd when I moved to the Washington, DC area, but, in fact, there are hundreds of them all around the area. In the middle of nowhere, to right beside your local Macy's... there is no likely spot, just where it happened.

I look out for them now. Usually, there is wrought iron fencing, but, this is out of barn wood, probably in keeping with the "neighborhood."

20180524_083828.jpg

The ground is still heavily laden with dew. It is a most welcome sight as the days have been warm and suck the life out of the plants without proper hydration. Natures way of making up.

20180512_082955.jpg

Everything surrounding me is still in the new phase, fresh as it will ever be. I look around me and I cannot help it. I know I am repeating myself when I say this, but, Oh! What a wonderful world!

20180502_070636.jpg

Run!! Here come the lambs. They are just weaned and looking for their mamas.

Well, this is my first submission into the #WednesdayWalk and I hope to continue as this really was a fun challenge. I want to thank @tattoodjay for initiating and hosting it and I also want to thank @old-guy-photos for taking the time out of his busy day to help me out (Read: Make it for me) with my Gif. Have a most fabulous week!

Au Revoir!

Don't ever forget what a wonderful world we live in, people. Let's hold hands around the globe and make this earth really spin. Some days, it is not as easy to see, so we must try harder to give everyone the proper focus.

I upped and resteemed and almost forgot to do the comment.

I dont see your name on that cup, it could be mine lol.

I really am jealous of the battlefields, what a lovely place to walk and shoot flower pics!

This post is just packed full of goodness! Well done, Sunshine!

Oh, but you are a man of so many words! You would have felt incomplete if you don't comment on everyone's!

My name is on the cup! Did you check out the bottom? Pfft!

Don't be jealous! Just move to Virginia! ;) We have the best battlefields - ever! Even Henry likes it! Well, frankly, there is too much green grass to bring him now. I wouldn't be able to make that boy move when there is so much eating to be done!

Thank you! I appreciate your comment! Have a great night!

Tip!

It says "Made in China" on the bottom!

I am moving to Virginia. Not today mind you. But I feel like that is where I should be. A fresh start is never too late, right?

Never! It says made in Luxembourg! Now I know it is not your cup!

Drats! Foiled again! ;)

It happens! Need a tissue? :)

Hm, something went wrong with the comment, but I think I`ve managed to send the tip ;)

Just testing something :) tipuvote!

Thank you! Anytime! ;)

Awww! Thank you for that! You just MADE my day!

Awww! The sheeps are so cute! ☺️Wold like to cuddle with them!
This was a wonderful walk, sweet! What a nice breather!

Aren't they adorable? I love these little lambs. They are still pretty new, even though they look pretty big in the picture. They are a breed from Tasmania and New Zealand. Mixed.

Thank you! It was a nice walk today! I hope you had a great day too!

Tschüß XOXO

Lovely walk. You have a horse? so jealous....well, maybe not too much as they are a lot of work but still....you have a horse??

I love the sheep ... I collect pastoral prints and paintings with sheep. They hang out in my powder room , of all places.

I didn't realize that Washington DC had rural areas.

I do have a horse! They can be a lot of work, but, I have a groom at the barn that will take care of him if I don't. I do like to though. He is a pretty boy. ;)

I love sheep too and these little babies were just weaned this week and still crying for their mamas. At the moment, they seem fine. Powder room seems perfect for me. It beats the usual stuff people put in there.

I live just outside of the District and there are farms everywhere. You have a city and boom a farm. It is bizarre and well, I guess I am just used to it. The bedroom communities of DC keep on growing.

Thanks for the visit!

That was a beautiful walk and lovely photography. I do love to get out early when the dew is still on the grass and flowers... I'm usually outside by 6 AM, but sunrise is now 5:13 and the dew is gone before I'm ready! I'm going to have to start staying up all night again... :) Great post @dswigle, resteemed

That is what you get for living in the Northern Tier like that! Early mornings and late nights! It is never dark there anymore!

Thanks so much for your encouraging words. I love the dew and I live far enough south of you to still catch it, even when I don't get out until 6am.

If you stay up all night, there is plenty of company on this site to keep you company! ;)

Thanks so much for the resteem!

I love everything in your neighborhood, it's very beautiful! 😊 Love really is overflowing in your heart that you see the "love" in nature! Hahaha! 😂😉

Aren't you so sweet?!! Thank you so much. I do like my neighborhood and the nice people in it. It is surrounded by so much wildlife I enjoy getting out there and walking. (or running)

Thank you, ging for the visit and for taking the time to comment! Much appreciated! XOXO

I love this walk. Beautiful and tranquil. Love the flowers. What a peaceful place. I hope they are resting in peace after those awful battles.

It is a family plot from the farm (still existing) and the soldiers. They laid them to rest wherever they were. Sadly, but that is the way they did it.

Thank you so much, Ceci! The flowers are always my favorite part of the post.

I was thinking about you and yours this weekend and hoping to hear some good news about your family. Have you heard from them and how are YOU?

It is nuts here. Mortars and firearms going off all night. Roads are blockaded in and out of Managua. My son tried to leave but turned back as it was not safe for my granddaughter. They are secure in their house but they can't leave. Today I had Daniel out to the clinic. No docor, one nurse, no medicine, no nothing. Now I have to take his sister into Leon, she is in labour and needs a C-section. I will be taking two large men who insist on arms with us to the hospital. We can't be too sure what we may or may not encounter...

My prayers are with you, always. It seems the world is turning a blind eye to this or it would be contained in hours.

Please be safe. xoxo And let me know how it all goes.

We are home now, but need to return tomorrow morning before 6:00 am. This has been one heck of a day and it's not over. A tropical storm is supposed to be coming tonight...

Thanks for joining the walk and taking us along with you

Such a fun post to read

Tip!

Thanks for reminding me this morning! I am so thankful because I always, always forget! It was fun to put together and I am looking forward to next week!

I will have to plan a good walk now! :)

Thanks for the tip, Jj!
