Oooh, yellow jackets are nasty little buggers. They're very photogenic, though! We had a nest of them behind the house, one year, and they would sting with absolutely no provocation! Nice phtos, though. It looks as if you're at peak color there.

Most all of the trees are getting pretty bear. There's just a few that are still holding on I had to kind of search for the ones that I have in the photos.
I think that might be a Hoverfly. They don't sting, but mimic bees for protection. I'm not an insect experts though. So I'm not sure!
