GuiltyParties Witness Update

witness_new_title.png

Block Size

In an earlier post we noted that we opted to increase the block size from 65536 to 98304. We didn't go to the full double 131072 because we're still deliberating if there's indeed a better way than simply increasing the block size. The 25% limit that is set on maxing the blocks prior to affecting bandwidth has to have another work around. Without diligent examination of code and relating information, it's impossible to settle on an answer. We will continuously re-evaluate our decision and will update as necessary.

Lacking Support

By the way the voting for our witness goes, it is very evident that our projects and our presence here benefits only a small segment of the community.

To clarify, we are not participating and creating projects to support the witness application but on the contrary, the witness is there to support the projects. It's there to provide a technical service to the blockchain that we rely on and to generate the necessary SP for creating accounts for new users, delegating to worthwhile projects (for free), and of course curating. Without the witness gaining traction and receiving blocks, much of it is not possible.

You probably notice that we don't power down. All the SP generated with blocks (and posts) stays as is. The only funds that are removed are those necessary to pay for the technical end of things. They come from posting rewards.

What Block SP is Used For

  • Delegating 500 SP to @reveur, which is a bot that curates Venezuelan users free of charge
  • Delegating SP for account creation for veterans as part of the @chairborne vision
  • Delegating SP to randomly selected new users otherwise trapped in account-creation limbo
  • Curating posts by individuals who can't get anyone to look at their work, much less vote

Highlighters

We are working with SteemData and setting up to run our own node for it. The public SteemData provided by the community by @furion is severely behind in blocks and has not been able to catch up for a significant amount of time now. This is why both the Veterans and the Steem Silver Gold daily posts have stopped. @inthenow has taken it upon himself to generously compile the Veterans daily post manually, but this process is heavy on man-hours and cannot continue indefinitely.

If the SteemData issue is not resolved by ourselves by end of day today, we'll be rewriting the highlighters to directly pull from the blockchain without further processing.

Time

Some of you may have wondered why Patriot isn't around all the chats that often any more. This is because, as part of @steemcleaners, I am using a lot of my time to combat abuse on the platform. One fails to realize how much time is dedicated by @steemcleaners members to the cause and to the process, which is necessary for the benefit of everyone except for scammers, until having to do it himself. This can be a full-time job in term of hours and for some team members, it is double that. And no, before you ask, it doesn't pay me like one. It's something you do because you want the reward pool to be used as intended. The mountain seems small when you're driving by and looking at it in the distance. But when you start climbing you see how enormous it actually is.

Server

The current server is a 64 GB RAM machine but without your support, we won't be able to justify running it. There are two other servers running the projects and bots. If what we do is really that irrelevant and superfluous. This is a stake-based system we have here. You use your stake to decide who supports the blockchain and who does not. Either way, speak with your votes, one way or the other.

No, if we shut down the server the projects won't end, but they won't have the resources needed to benefit you as intended.

I voted since the beginning I've talked to you. Still I am.

I encourage everyone to spare a vote. Let's vote @guiltyparties.

Cheers,
@yehey

I noticed you did. The fact that we earned your vote means a lot to me personally. You've always had ours.

Thanks for all your hard work to maintain our platform and specifically regarding @steemcleaners fighting the spam and abuse. I can imagine it is a monumental task with new abusers popping up or old abusers creating new accounts to game the system on a daily basis.

EDIT: I just realized you're not on my witness list and I have 3 unused votes. Now I have 2. Hope my vote for you helps in some way. Keep up the good work!

I still have 6 left, I see you are doing your duty better than I do. But on the other hand, I need to keep some power dry lol

Exactly. Keep a few open always.

You may already be aware but @netuoso keeps track of witnesses that are running older versions (in the top 100) or are becoming inactive, etc. so there's always a chance my number would drop by a few. I take a look at his posts on this every once in awhile to make sure I'm not wasting votes.

But I keep a few open to add new ones that look promising, impress me, or I've just overlooked.

All the votes help a lot, that's how we get more blocks. Thanks for your words of support. I personally didn't realize how much abuse goes on until I forced myself to sit down and objectively look at it.

I didn't know you are also a witness, well posts like this helps with recognition. I'm trying to be active participants, not just voting for witnesses but also giving out votes fairly. Is someone is not doing good job, too many missing blocks, not being up to date, will not get a vote.

Anyway, since I have few more votes to use and since I haven't vote for you yet, I'm now going to fix this ;-)

That's how I saw your buddy's post yesterday, from the witness channel after scrolling up. The site glitches up and by the looks of it you unapproved it instead. Go figure.

Oh no, thanks for letting me know, what probably happened, looks like I already had vote for you, and with 'new entry' I upvoted you. My bad, I should of check before. Lesson learned. Will fix it.

And btw, thanks for upvoting for my friend, I got him in week ago, and thanks to you he has a great start. I appreciate a lot! Ok, going to fix my mess now, sorry lol

The site isn't all that instinctual when it comes to voting, it's an ongoing problem.

He's got a good profile. I myself can't ride due to an old army injury but always been a motorcycle fan and have enjoyed his posts.

OK I've fix it :-) I'm trying to have several votes for witnesses bellow top 50 :-)

You've definitely got some good ones there on your list.

Thanks :-)
Next I will go bellow top 100 and add few with less than 10 missing blocks

last time I had an open slot I should have voted for you... but I didn't. now I feel guilty :-/ I'll have to look through my list, but every time I want to vote for someone it's harder to choose which one doesn't need my vote:(

Haha I always figured I didn't fit your requirements, particularly since you're always in the witness channel and are an extra-discerning voter.

Hmm.. I'd say you have a similar issue as most witnesses. You don't promote yourself and what your doing well enough...

Many of my votes were made when I was new and less educated... One thing I wonder, I vote for 9 out of the top 10, since my vote is relatively inconsequential to them, should I use my vote for some newer up and coming witnesses? Mmmm decisions

hi @guiltyparties .., now i have voted for you as a witness. Good luck always.
greetings from me
