Tasty Bread for Tasty Thursday

Have you heard of Taystee Bread?

Well.... I have. From my Mommie! And she heard it from her mom.

I have not actually seen or tasted that bread.

I remember my Mommie would say: "Butter your Taystee", in the same way as people would say: "Grab me that Kleenex" or "Brush your teeth with Colgate", using product brands to refer to bread, tissues or toothpaste.

So what is Taystee? Apparently it was one of the best sliced bread in the marketduring the old days of my grandma and Taystee Bread was a household name in many cities in the US. I found this in the web:


I bake my own bread, and I think that I make the tastiest bread... well, everyone who has tasted my bread say it is.

So for my #tastythursday post, I shall share a simplified overview of how I make sliced bread!

Unfortunately, my tripod broke, so I couldn't take a video to show you the entire process.


First, I proof the yeast in warm milk and sugar. When the yeast has bloomed, the eggs are stirred into the same cup...

The milk and egg mixture is added to the bowl that has the flour, salt, and sugar, then mixed.

The bowl is covered with plastic wrap or a towel, then I put it in a cool oven with the lights on to proof until it has doubled in size.

When the dough has risen and doubled its size, I punch the dough (my hands are oiled) to release the gases trapped in the dough.

Then I turn the dough onto the board to knead it using my fist.

I cut the doughtwo portions, roll each one (like a blanket) and put them into two greased loaf pans.

then proofed a second time until it has doubled in size.

It is ready to be baked in a preheated oven. I use a thermometer to check for doneness.

When done, the top of the bread is buttered to keep the crust soft, and then cooled on a rack.
Bread is ready for slicing when it is totally cooled.

I use a bread slicing board made of bamboo.


I store my sliced bread in plastic bread keepers.

Dough punching, now which episode of The Karate Kid was that? All breads are my favorite when fresh out of the oven. My favorite part? The slicing!

I love fresh bread, and it is for that reason that I learned how to make bread. I make these sliced bread mostly for morning toast and sandwiches. My favorite ones are the artisan bread and rolls.
You will not need a bread slicing board with your very sharp katana, sis... we can just toss the loaf up in the air, and they'll drop on the table sliced thin, LOL!

That looks delicious! I'm a bread fiend, so that seems right up my alley. Can't say I make my own bread though, so props to you!

No I have never heard of that Bread, but thenI hw up down under and we had different companies who may well have made somehting similar

Thnaks for sharing how you make the bread that’s somehting I have bene considering to do make my own Bread, we avoid Bread for the most part and when you see the ingredients inStore Borough bread it is what ha me thinking about making my own

The great thing about homemade bread is all ingredients are raw ingredients. This one uses only yeast, milk, eggs, butter, flour, sugar, and salt! Now the artisan bread I make uses only four ingredients: yeast, water, flour and salt. I am sure you will love it. Perhaps I shall show that one next week!!! I am thinking about going the lazy way and buying a BRead Maker, LOL

I don’t know why I insist on doing it the old way. I do know from a couple of my friends that bread makers make great breads. Turn in on before you go to bed at night and when you wake up...viola!!!!

Thats what I was thinking, aking up to the smell of almost cooked bread sounds wonderful to me, but probably bad for my diet as I would eat to much of it lOL

Well I am just trying moderation for the most part, not any specific diet, slowly loosign weight and keeping it off and its working fairly well, but one thing i try to not have much of is Bread lOL

I’ve made plenty of bread. My favorites to make are pumpernickel, hard crust Italian, and Jewish rye. No bakery that I’ve ever tried makes a true old fashion pumpernickel, ever in Brooklyn New York which is the best bakeries for bread. Sending you some roses and a big hug. 🌹🌹🌹❤️

I have never heard of Taystee! I think Sunbeam was (and still is) the bread in this area that claims to have no holes. And like you, I prefer to make my own!

Nothing beats fresh bread, warm out of the oven and some real butter. Funny thing is, I was just watching old Taystee and Wonder bread commercials the other night. Those were good for a laugh. LOL. Some of the things they said back then had me cracking up. A !tip for your awesome bread making skills.

Oh yes, I've heard of Taystee bread. When we are up in Amish Country we get the homemade butter, some local honey and whip it up. Sooo good!

Okay... my secret is out!!! I whip my butter with honey, then put them in ramekins!
