Last Long Training Run Done {Actifit}

in #actifit5 years ago

The sweet taste of victory! I very much enjoyed this green smoothie after finishing up my long run this morning. While I have been kicking butt in my training, I'm not complaining about bringing this stage of preparation to a close.

Of all the days to get in longer mileage, today was pretty darn perfect. The weather was much cooler and less humid than it has been recently. I can definitely tell a big difference in my exertion level when the weather is this nice! Not that 11 miles is easy by any means, but it's a whole lot more pleasant when there's a cool breeze to accompany the beautiful sunshine.

I kept my pace pretty similar to my last double digit run--easy up front then pushed the pace a bit on the back end. I am looking to average around an 8:40/mile pace come race day, so I'm hoping I've put in the work to make it happen. At this point with just under 2 weeks until the half marathon, staying healthy and tapering is on the menu. I'm looking forward to a sports massage next week to reward myself for all of the hard work I've put in over the past few months.

I was really happy to get a chance to test out my new pouch on a longer run before race day, as well. I don't always run with my phone, but when I do I had been using an arm band that starts rubbing after a while. Plus it wasn't quite big enough for my phone. This clips over your waistband and holds tight with magnets. My phone fits nicely along with a few other small items (today it was dates for my mid-run fuel), and it's also water resistant (no sweaty phone or fear of rain)! I could feel it a bit at first, but after a few miles I forgot it was there. I had seen reviews that most women preferred it clipped on the back of their shorts or pants, so that's where I wore it. Still plenty easy enough to reach back and grab my fuel or pop it off to grab my phone. It really wasn't expensive either, so hopefully it holds up well.

I finished off the day with a bowl of my yummy rice and veggies mixture that I shared yesterday, now it's time to rest up for the work day tomorrow! Happy running my friends!

Thanks! It seems that scale is always teetering one way or the other, but I try to find that mythical sweet spot between sharing what I'm doing and actually doing it as much as I can. 😆

You just keep on wowing me! Those are impressive numbers for any runner and factor in the miles run?

Hello?

Totally awesome! I am so impressed with your work ethic, running on overtime and the meal prep that it takes to make your veganism work. It's a word. If not, I just made it up. You totally blow my mind, Katie. You are one totally motivated and successful woman!

Thank you for being a part of SteemUSA! You are awesome!

Aww, thanks so much Denise! When I have a goal to work on I'm definitely pretty motivated to hit it! That's why I like picking a few key races every year. Keeps me honest with pushing myself to work harder. :)

The meal prep is second nature now, but so key in making sure I recover well from my athletic endeavors. I am very lucky that I generally have enough time to devote to cooking, even if it is just simple meals. I get a little antsy if I don't have at least a few things ready to go in the refrigerator at all times, haha! Though with the abundance at the farmers market right now that's generally not a problem. ;)

Crazy numbers! I did an eight kilometre walk last Friday before my Piriformis decided to self destruct, and I was buggered. My best endurance is only about 2 kilometres ... on a treadmill!

Well done! I'll exercise vicariously through this until my piriformis settles and I can get back into (effective) stretching and training!

I'm pretty well buggered today after this one yesterday, but plenty of stretching and foam rolling on the plan to recover. The sports massage I've got on the books for next week should definitely help keep the hips and other muscles happy for race day! I'm happy to bring you and everyone else along for the ride as it can get a little lonely out there running for almost 2 hours by yourself, haha! Hoping the piriformis continues to settle down for you so you can get back to logging some exercise yourself!

An 11 mile run - amazing. You are so impressive. And the healthy eating, you got it going on girl!

Some of you other Actifitters still blow me away with your step counts, so I'm just trying to keep up. ;)

@plantstoplanks Well when you hit 60, running is not particularly an option, although there are lots of older runners, I know. Walking and hiking suit me much better, lol. I need to eat healthier too, and you inspire me with your delicious looking meals.

Doesn't matter so much how you move, just that you get out there and do it! I hope I can continue running for many years to come, but if not I can totally get into some hiking. :)

Exciting with a half marathon, good luck!

Thanks @marenontherun! I'm feeling good for this one, so hoping it carries on for race day. :) I'll definitely share my experience after I make it across the finish line.
