Kunst im öffentlichen Raum. Wien wurde in der vergangenen Woche wieder bunter. Graue Häuserfassaden verwandelten sich in riesige Leinwände, auf denen unter den Augen eines interessierten und begeisterten Publikums professionelle Kunstwerke entstanden.
Art in public space
Vienna became a bit more colourful last week. Grey house facades were transformed into huge canvases on which professional artwork were created under the eyes of an interested and enthused audience.
Bereits zum sechsten Mal gastierte in Wien das internationale Straßenkunst-Festival Calle Libre, das sich mit zeitgenössischen Formen von Street Art, Graffiti und der aktiven Mitgestaltung des öffentlichen Raums beschäftigt.
The international street art festival Calle Libre, which deals with contemporary forms of street art, graffiti and the active participation in the design of public spaces, has already made its sixth guest appearance in Vienna.
2014 lud der Gründer des Festivals, Jakob Kattner, im Rahmen seiner Dissertation über "Urbane Kunst in Lateinamerika" Künstler aus diesen Ländern nach Wien ein. Die ursprünglich einmalig geplante Aktion kam beim Publikum so gut an, dass sich daraus ein jährliches Festival entwickelte.
In 2014 Jakob Kattner, the festival's founder, invited artists from Latin America to Vienna as part of his dissertation on "Urban Art in Latin America". The originally uniquely planned action was so well received by the public that it developed into an annual festival.
Kunst aus Lateinamerika ist nach wie vor ein wichtiger Bestandteil des Festivals, allerdings wurde in den letzten Jahren der Fokus auf Künstler aus anderen Ländern ausgeweitet. So kommt beispielsweise der Künstler des oben abgebildeten Kunstwerkes aus Spanien.
Art from Latin America is still an important part of the festival, but in recent years the focus has expanded to include artists from other countries. For example, the artist of the artwork pictured above comes from Spain.
Unter dem Sammelbegriff urbane Ästhetik organisiert der Verein, der das Festival ausrichtet, Street-Art, Graffiti und andere Formen der Straßenkunst auf kuratierten Wänden in der ganzen Stadt. Darüber hinaus werden Workshops, Stadtkunstführungen und Podiumsdiskussionen angeboten, um einen Dialog und Gedankenaustausch rund um Straßenkunst und Stadtästhetik zu ermöglichen.
Under the collective term urban aesthetics, the association that hosts the festival organizes street art and graffiti on curated walls throughout the city. In addition, workshops, urban art guided tours and panel discussions are offered to enable a dialogue and exchange of ideas on street art and urban aesthetics.
Das Festival hat den Anspruch, Urban Art aus dem Kontext des Vandalismus zu heben und zu zeigen, dass es sich dabei um eine ernstzunehmende zeitgenössische Kunstströmung handelt.
The festival has the claim to lift Urban Art out of the context of vandalism and to show that it is a serious contemporary art movement.
An insgesamt 14 Schauplätzen konnte man den Künstlern bei der kreativen Arbeit zusehen. Hier verschönert der Österreicher Kyros die Fassade eines Kindergartens im 6. Bezirk.
At a total of 14 locations one could watch the artists working creatively. Here the Austrian Kyros embellishes the facade of a kindergarten in the 6th district.
Als Hommage an Egon Schiele und Gustav Klimt, beide Protagonisten der Wiener Moderne, entstanden anlässlich ihres 100. Todestages diese beiden farbenfrohen Wandbilder.
As a tribute to Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt, both protagonists of Viennese Modernism, these two colourful murals were created on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of their death.
Die portugiesische Künstlerin Kruella D’Enfer interpretiert hier Egon Schieles Gemälde "Am Bauch liegender weiblicher Akt" aus dem Jahr 1917. Darunter ist das Originalwerk zu sehen, das sich im Besitz der Albertina in Wien befindet.

Die bekannte Fotografie von Gustav Klimt mit seiner Katze diente dem Brasilianer Kobra als Vorlage für sein monumentales Wandgemälde.
The well-known photograph of Gustav Klimt with his cat served the brazilian artist Kobra as a model for his monumental mural painting.
Calle Libre belebt den öffentlichen Raum, der uns allen gehört und der daher nicht nur Stadtplanern und Werbefirmen überlassen werden sollte.
Calle Libre enlivens the public space that belongs to us all and which should therefore not only be left to urban planners and advertising companies.

Wow, welch schöner Bericht! Sowohl vom Informationsgehalt her als auch wegen der starken Bilder. Die Schmetterlinge mit der entsprechenden Schattierung sind ja der Hammer! Da soll nochmal Einer Graffiti als "Schmiererei" bezeichnen!
Dieses Festival ist ein wahrlich großartiges Projekt. Hoffe, die "Leinwände" werden nicht öfter benutzt, sondern die Stadt wird von Jahr zu Jahr immer bunter.

Die gezeigten Bilder sind nur eine ganz kleine Auswahl an Kunstwerken, die im Rahmen dieses Festivals innerhalb der letzten sechs Jahre entstanden sind. Die Schmetterlinge an der Hausmauer sind wirklich der volle Hingucker!
Abgesehen von diesem Festival hat sich inzwischen hier in Wien eine lebhafte Street-Art-Szene entwickelt, die viel Farbe in die Stadt bringt. Bei einem Spaziergang entlang des Donaukanals wähnt man sich in einer kilometerlangen Galerie. ;-)

Wenn du auf Chanel & Co stehst, dann begleite ich dich auf den Graben oder in das Goldenen Quartier, wo ein Luxuslabel neben dem nächsten zu finden ist. Als Steem-Millionärin erübrigt sich dann auch der Goldesel zu Hause. ;-)

LOL, nein! Der Name kam mir nur symbolisch in den Kopf. Selbst wenn die Portokasse locker reichte, wäre das nicht so mein Stil. Vielleicht eine signierte Trekking-Hose - oder Jeans, egal wo ;-)

I'm impressed by Vienna's embrace of 'people's' art--art that arises spontaneously and is not buried in the hallowed halls of museums. I contrast Vienna's acceptance with a dreadful experience in NYC some years back.
There was a project called 5Pointz, which offered a palette to street artists. This was a safe space where art could be created and enjoyed. The owners of the building that housed 5Pointz had other plans, and in the dark of night painted over all the artwork.
Last year graffiti art in NY was given a kind of legitimacy when a court ruled the 5Pointz landlord had acted illegally. It was a step forward, but did not approach the level of hospitality Vienna offers street artists.

I have looked up about the project 5Pointz. The court's decision was probably a late satisfaction for the artists. I've only been to NYC once so far, I remember that the colorful graffiti art impressed me deeply. Probably pretty much all of it was illegal.
While in many cities graffiti is seen as a purely criminal act that can only be countered by rigorous prohibitions, Vienna supports this form of artistic expression through legal graffiti walls. Along the Danube Canal you can admire miles of street art. Graffiti on other people's property is of course considered damage to property, which is also punishable under criminal law.
Of course property rights are important (I don't want anyone spraying graffiti on my house!). But there is a place for street art, and Vienna recognizes that. John Fekner, has created some of the most socially relevant and respected street art in New York City. I think you'd find his work very interesting. The city's five boroughs and Fekner's art are integrated concept pieces. No one seems inclined to disturb the art--not quite Vienna, but progress :)
Thanks for referring to John Fekner. I've already heard about this interesting artist, but I didn't know that he also left his mark in Vienna. I have to see if his work is still visible in the Streetart Passage in the Museumsquartier. The MQ is a popular meeting place for art and culture. In addition to renowned museums, there are many small cultural initiatives here.

I appreciate the exchange of knowledge and experience here on Steemit a lot. Above all, you come into contact with very interesting people. I have no experience with other social networks. Facebook, Instagram and Co have passed me by without a trace. In the beginning, direct contact with others through the rather impersonal medium "internet" was unusual for me, but now I love it!
Ein wirklich starker Bericht mit großer Aussagekraft was in Wien in den letzten Jahren an Graffiti und Kunst passiert ist. Ich liebe Graffiti Bilder und sehe es absolut nicht als Schmiererei an. Würde mir solche Projekte auch für Hamburg wünschen. Bei uns in der Sternschanze haben wir auch viele solcher Bilder wo Künstler ihre Kreativität freien Lauf lassen konnten und es macht die Stadt wirklich schöner und bunter . Liebe Grüße Michael

In Wien tut sich so einiges in dieser Szene. So wurde das leergeräumte Wien-Museum, das in den nächsten Jahren saniert werden soll, zur Spielwiese für Street-Art-Künstler und Skateboarder. Im "Do it yourself"-Bereich, kann sich jeder als Künstler versuchen, in der "Hall of Fame" gibt es spektakuläre Kunstwerke zu bestaunen. Auch der Indoor-Skatepark wurde begeistert aufgenommen. Solche Aktionen bringen frischen Wind in die Stadt! Ich kann mir vorstellen, dass in einer Großstadt wie Hamburg diesbezüglich auch viel los ist.
Ja das ist es, aber wie gesagt nach meinem Empfinden könnte es mehr sein. Wie gesagt in so Viertel wie Sternschanze und Pauli ist da viel los ... Sonst sieht man viel an S-Bahnen und dem Beton von Brücken etc. ganz viel natürlich illegal dann. Würde mir Förderung und Projekte wünschen. LG Michael

Fantastic idea! It also suits Vienna. Plus it is a cultural city, expression of art in any form is hugely beneficial! Graffiti is becoming a norm in the society and lifts the surroundings.
I like living in this city because there is room for every kind of culture. Graffiti is more and more socially accepted and that's a good thing!

Abgefahren! Finde es gut wenn Kunst für jeden zugänglich ist. Noch besser wenn Kunst in den Alltag einbezogen wird und die langweiligen Fassaden der Gebäude erträglicher macht.
Ein anderes Thema wäre Graffiti, ich weiß, wird oft irgendwo dort aufgetragen wo es eigentlich nicht sein sollte, fand ich trotzdem schon immer spannend.
Ich finde, es könnte noch mehr Kunst im öffentlichen Raum geben, obwohl Wien in dieser Beziehung ohnehin schon recht fortschrittlich ist. Ich habe gesehen, du wohnst in Penang. In einem Bericht über Georgetown habe ich mal gesehen, dass es dort ausgefallene, dreidimensionale Streetart gibt, die inzwischen zur Touristenattraktion geworden ist.
Das stimmt, Street Art in George Town ist weltbekannt. Ist ja auch für den Tourismus gemacht worden. Wobei ich jetzt nicht gezielt nach den dreidimensionalen oder anderen Objekten suche. Ich lasse mich überraschen mit jeder Straße, die ich benutze :)
