๐ Adopt A Redfish ๐
Hello friends! I've not been posting for a few days because family priorities and my small business beckoned me. So here I am, back with more shenanigans.
I recently bumped into a post while browsing written by @thevillan called the Adopt A Minnow Challenge. I found this initiative to be heartwarming and at first, I thought about entering his competition. Then something else came to mind. Why don't adopt a smaller account instead?
I'm not that far up the totem poll, but I sometimes notice there's a lot of new users on the platform who haven't been getting the roaring start I've managed to. In reaching out to befriend, I think I get lost in the sauce of other welcoming Steemians โ which is totally normal. I've been blessed to have (in a way) been adopted in way of delegations and support from various groups and people on Steemit.
Just to name a few of these I'm grateful for, I've been delegated to by @kenistyles, @gpalav, @meno, @novacadian, and others. I won a week delegation (which I mostly wasted, unfortunately) from @googlyeyes. I've been supported directly and indirectly by @resteemable, @steemers, @smg, @helpie, and @asapers. PAL has also been good to me. I've had a vote from @curie a couple of times. I'm thankful for the regular attention and upvotes by @purepinay, @hr1, @nathankaye, @crimsonclad, @iamjamie, @kenistyles, @leprechaun, and many others โ even the occasional nudge from @acidyo. And in a way, I feel far more welcomed than I had on day one. Surely understanding many of the adaptation struggles I experience, a little love can truly soothe. Thank you.
But I know, everyone can't help everyone. I try to do what I can to give back. It can be really challenging, however, considering my hefty schedule having two kids alone with special needs, while running a business, plus life. Bla bla...
One of my friends who regularly upvotes me contacted me on Discord just to say, "Will you please STOP upvoting me back!"

Well.
So, here I am holding this upvote worth anywhere between .04 - .07 cents depending on my delegation this week. I sift through and actually read lots of content here. Steem has almost replaced my Kindle. However, I thought after this funny discussion that I would put that regular 1 vote out of 10 to even better use.
Inspired by @thevillan โ I'm adopting a Redfish.
I'm not even really truly a minnow myself. But my rep has grown like a weed. And my Sincerity score is almost 100%. I'm sure I can make a little bit of difference in a brand new users journey like so many are doing for me.
Following suit, every month I'll adopt a new Redfish.
My criteria is as follows:
- Must be under 35 Rep and here less than a month.
- Must post several times per week, relatively good writing, music, or art content.
- Must be someone who comments meaningful comments a few times per week at minimum.
- Must post in English (Sorry, I just want to be able to completely comprehend the content.)
- Must be on Discord
- Must be someone who's powering up and investing, not cashing out regularly (income.)
- Doesn't spam, plagarize, or misuse their power
Nominate a Redfish in the comments or nominate yourself if this criteria describes you.
Let me know why they or you and I would be a great fit. Tell me about their content and why I should adopt them.
What is this worth?
- My selection will last 1 month
- I will manually upvote up to 2x per day on posts
- I will manually upvote up to 2x per day on comments
- I will engage the user and try to involve them
- I will share a little about what I know about growing on Steemit
- I will help them learn to network
- At the end of the month, I will send some SBD rewards to power up a little
I can't do much, as I'm small myself and also powering up. But I feel like this is good Karma and setting an example.

Wow @rcarter! I didn't know you were from Mass! That's awesome. I'm wishing I was you over there in Cebu. My aunt keeps reminding me I need to get on a plane. I read that you're moving back to this side of the planet at some point; is that still on your roadmap? I will let you know when next I do another tipathon. I'm looking at mid-June. I'm trying to dodge conflicting with any major Steem broadcasts. Last time (I didn't know this) my event conflicted with one of Aggs shows on Pal. So I'll let you know when I get the next date/time worked out. :)

Visas are terrible right now. Politics. Does she have family here? I don't even know if that helps these days in this political climate. So sorry to hear about your complications with that. They seem to be having no issue letting people leave America though.

What a great initiative. I know it was really hard for me when I started and many times I wanted to give up.
I think many others feel that was as well. I'm hoping other accounts do something like this as well once they reach the 50's rep level. :)

Thanks for responding. Yeah, my vote isn't much financially but it can do wonders for a low Rep account. I just don't want to adopt a spammer. @nabithecat is wonderful, and it's great that she has you to support her. Some people have nobody. Technically, I had nobody at first. So I hope to find someone that I could encourage where that encouragement would make a difference. โฅ๏ธ

Thank you @karinxxl - it's not mine though. It's adapted from @thevillan and essentially the same with a few changed. I think it's a win/win overall. You know me, I'm not unselfish - just generous. Karma matters to me. And I also gain intrinsic value on a lot of levels. It's very selfish actually hahaha... I do need to continue to build myself. Accountability exercises help with that.

I noticed the adoptaminnow initiative isn't taking off that well so I figured raise the standards, lower the threshold. If nobody applies, I'll just have to find one on my own. But before I did that, I figured I'd give folks a chance to chime in with suggestions. Two heads are better than one. :)

I love the project. kinda wish i could join but my reputation makes people think that I've made it. Lolz, However i will nominate any good redfish i come across.
I know the feeling @sparrowbernard. Same here, to be perfectly honest. Lolz. Worse yet, as I creep up in the mid-50's of my rep, growth is much slower as there are less accounts with higher rep willing to upvote my posts at 100%. My growth slows in all categories. But I think this is natural. You may experience the same so don't be discouraged if that happens to you. If you find a fresh redfish, I would be grateful if you let them know about this campaign.
Once i hit above 50, i will no longer be a minnow... but am still broke on steemit. i wonder what i will be... since i can't really call myself a dolphin if i dont have enough steempower.

What a great initiative, if every Steemian did this we would have a much happier Steemit!
I think every Steemian would be extremely well to do this and I agree wholeheartedly, if not for a redfish, at least for any account smaller than itself by 10 or so rep. I 100% agree.
