Keys To Success On SteemsteemCreated with Sketch.

In an effort to give encouragement to some of the smaller accounts, I thought I would put together some keys to success on Steem that I find helpful.

Of course, success is a relative term. If one is on here simply looking to have some fun while making some connections, then great; much of this might not apply. However, if one is looking to gain some Steem Power to take advantage of the tremendous upside many of us feel exists with not only STEEM, but all of crypto, then this is for you.

Be Dedicated To Steem

This is crucial. We have a lot of people who sign up and leave. This is common across social media and the internet in general.

Nevertheless, if one is going to enjoy the massive benefits, commitment is required. This involves the time to learn about the platform and all that it entails. Steem is different than what most of us ever encountered so there is a major learning curve. Dedicate yourself to it.

Take The Long Term View

I have the picture of Vision 2025 at the end of each post. I do that as a reminder that we need to focus long term. It is easy to concentrate on the ups and downs that take place on here. This is new technology. There are going to be obstacles.

Also, Steem is designed as a compounding machine. Everything one does builds upon what went before. As one gets more followers, the number of upvotes will increase. This most likely will lead to larger payouts making one's own account worth more. This translates into a more valuable upvote which further rewards one's followers.

Consistent Action

This is not a place where you can post one day, take a week or two off, and then return. Well, one can do that but it will not be very successful. Success requires activity on a consistent basis. Personally, I post an article twice a day. For others, they prefer once daily. Whatever is decided, do it consistently.

Consistent action ties into long-term thinking. Accounts grow over time. I have yet to interact with someone who was consistently active and did not see their account growing. Month after month, there is always more SP than at the beginning of the month.

Use The Applications

Steem is one of the leading blockchains for applications. This is being verified by it's ranking on the DApp sites that post that sort of thing. Not everyone is a writer or a blogger. Steem now has an assortment of applications that can appeal to a large cross section of people.

A few of the applications also have a decent amount of SP delegated to them. They support users of their applications with upvotes. If you account is small, this is a great way to have it grow. Use @steemhunt, @dlike, @dtube, and @actifit. Each of those provides upvotes to their users which are fairly significant.

Also, an interface like Busy.org rewards posters with an upvote on some of their posts. This is a viable alternative to the Steemit application.

Buy Some STEEM

For those in a financial position, now is a great time to take advantage of the drop in cryptocurrency pricing. There are some who believe that buying Steem is not part of the system. I completely disagree. There is a large section of the White Paper dedicated to the importance of people who do this.

Having Steem Power increases one's standing on the blockchain. The system does not separate how the SP was acquired when looking at Voting Power. This is a way to move up the rankings in an instant.

Even if one is not able to buy a lot of STEEM, I found that when one puts some money in, no matter how little, the mindset changes. We instantly have an "ownership" mentality and a vested interest. There is a psychological difference in how one looks at an account. For example, one will view 50 SP differently if it was bought as opposed to earned. The former makes it much harder to walk away from.

Be Patient

This leads to optimism and overcomes negativity.

We are in a very immature industry. The technology is still being developed and real world uses just starting to show up. Few people in the world are involved in the entire sector at all. As humans, we tend to want everything now, which is not going to happen.

Accounts tend not to grow overnight (unless STEEM is purchased). One does not arrive on Steem and instantly get rewarded with hundreds of SP for a post. It could happen but it is rare. Since this is a system that compounds, time is an important factor. Do not look at things over the course of a few weeks, but in terms of years.

Do Not Buy Into The Negativity

This is crucial.

Yes, there are problems on the Steem blockchain. There are challenges and situations that need to be worked through. That cannot be denied. However, to post each day about how horrible and unfair things are does not but show how little one truly has to offer. It is also one of the dumbest things one can do.

Think about it. Why would you be holding STEEM and want it to go up in price, then turn around and post, in an immutable blockchain, how this sucks and is doomed to fail? Do you think that is going to get some big player to dump $100K on STEEM?

In my time on this blockchain, I saw people complain about many things. The reality is most of what they were whining about is no longer a problem. The situations were resolved. Certainly, there are still some hanging out there which require attention. As I said, Steem is not perfect. There are a lot of really smart people on this blockchain who are committed to making this place a success. They are the ones I trust over the naysayers.

Temper Expectations

This is another one that is vital.

Steem is 2.5 years old. Many of the applications are around less than a year. This is far from a polished product.

I see many talking about how DTube is not up to the standards of YouTube. Well, no kidding. DTube is less than two years old. YouTube was also founded by a company who had billions of dollars. In spite of that, the YouTube of today was not like that at two years.

Decentralization is not technologically up to par with the centralized systems at this moment. That is the price one pays for being an early adopter.

Steemit Is Not Steem

Too many, to our detriment, use the term "Steemit" when they mean Steem. Steemit is a private company that develops the blockchain. It also has an interface that people can use to post on the blockchain.

Steemit is NOT the blockchain. Nor is it the only interface. Steem is much bigger than Steemit and will carry on no matter what Steemit does. All of the applications on here (except for Steemit.com) are not tied to Steemit in any way. They are projects done by individual people or teams.

Saying Steemit is Steem is like saying Facebook is the Internet.

Have Fun

This is social media. There are a lot of great people on here. Interact, joke around, and enjoy yourself. There is enough misery in the world, we do not need to add to it. The mainstream media does a great job of pointing all that out.

There are just a few pointers that I hope will help people to enjoy more success on Steem.

truth...

having the vision for the longer term is truly important here... those that do not really miss out or will do in that future.
I personally try to post once per day but the 2 times would be hard for me. and I just took a xmas break as well. But I never left and do not think I will either

Great comment @felander

Indeed having the vision is a key if one want to succeed. I also see it that way.

I personally try to post once per day but the 2 times would be hard for me

Why would you post that often? OMG ....

The pressure of always looking at the price of steem and the possible payout of a post after the 7th day, is far greater @taskmaster4450 , specially to us, planktons.

The hope one day one post of ours will hit big in terms of payout is always our big dream, and to actually withdrawing steem into fiat and make use of it in a practical manner is always wishful thinking.

Its stage that every plankton should passed inorder to appreciate more the innate value of the blockchain.

To pass that stage requires sheer perseverance, dedication and clear understanding of the nature and value of this blockchain, as well deterministic attitude to invest more in the future rather than reaping smaller gains today.

I am still struggling everyday on this stage, keeping my dreams alive and staying positive all the time.

But hey, I am having fun. So I can manage the hardships.

And besides, I am already into "assisting new steemians" learn the platform, helping them gain upvotes, curation and reshares. As I was inspired by @crypto.piotr that helped me boost my sp, and his motivating words helped me, to help others.

I guess, for everyone to fully realized the value of steem blockchain, what they need to do, is, "to help other steemians achieve their dreams in the platform".

By helping others, is actually helping yourselves in the process.
Whether you are a plankton, minnows, dolphin or orcas, even whales, they should be helping others, paving the way for others to earn more, as they, themselves earn in the platform.

Steem is not a trading machine for easy money, it is not even a money making machine. Steem is people, the real content of the blockchain.

That would be ,THE KEY TO SUCCESS ON STEEM.

That's a great attitude to have and if you keep going along that path you will see your account grow as more people want to follow you and interact with you. It's a slow start on the blockchain but as you grow it will speed up and you can get even more back form it.

hi @guruvaj, @niallon11

Amazing comment. Seriously loved reading it.

I am still struggling everyday on this stage, keeping my dreams alive and staying positive all the time.

Is there any way I could help with your struggle? Im not exactly sure what do you struggle with :P I read your comment but I've lost you hehehe :P

Steem is not a trading machine for easy money, it is not even a money making machine. Steem is people, the real content of the blockchain.

You nailed it! BIG TIME!

Amazing comment @guruvaj

Thank you for mentioning me. I didnt know about this interesting publication.

Cheers, Piotr

Can't argue with any of those points really. They are all fairly standard but good to keep in mind for lot of people. I don't to see so much negativity when people are working their way through the problems. Things aren't perfect but they are developing and the blockchain is strengthening.

First of all it is a good thing to write posts like these, but I can not say the sound of it feels positive to me.

Secondly: Without steempower there is no way to have fun over here.

I also disagree that people only will stay if they bought Steem first. Money means nothing if you have it and can invest. There are more poor as rich people over here and what they want is to make an income.

I partly agree with you that you need to write an a frequent base, but I doubt if it is needed to post twice a day. I also wonder how normal people, with a job and a family can find time to write so many original and good content.
Ofcourse you can post a picture every hour of every item in your house or every stone, building and plant, but is that good content? The only thing that might happen is people will see your name each time. Perhaps they give your post a vote, perhaps they start hating you?

@crypto.piotr told he only published once a week and all of his content had over 200 votes of upvotes and way more comments as he expected.
If this will work for everybody I do not know, but I do agree with him that you need to invest time in those who did leave you a comment. Are you able to do so with 2 posts a day or do you simply ignore that part?

And what if people are getting sick, want a holiday? If this is social media like you state, it should not matter if you post a bit less, are not able to be here daily or is this the social media for singl, jobless people without a social life in real world?

Thank you for mentioning me @wakeupkitty, @taskmaster4450

I will definetly read this post right before bedtime.

@crypto.piotr told he only published once a week and all of his content had over 200 votes of upvotes and way more comments as he expected.

My golden rule is simple: DO NOT PUBLISH ANYTHING NEW UNTIL YOU REPLIED TO ALL PREVIOUS POSTS. So I prefer to post once a week and remaining of the time build engagement with others.

If I have a choice of 2 options:

a) posting 3 times a week (and it would take X amount of time)
b) positng 1 time a week and using remaining of my time use to build network (by visiting posts published by most active followers and supporting their content)

The thing is that we must be aware of our goals we want to achieve. I personally know people who are fine with 5-10 active followers and they just want to share their thoughts on daily basis. Im cool with it.

But if our goal is to attract traffic and build community around our accounts, then I think would chose option b. Plus it's worth to keep in mind, that if you post rarely then those who follow you will more likely resteem your post. Mine are resteemed always by over 100 people. And Im sure if I would post more often then they would get tired of me being "everyday, everywhere".

Are you able to do so with 2 posts a day or do you simply ignore that part?

Indeed great question.

piotr

I concur with this. 👍👍👍👍 I have unfollowed several people who have kept on bashing steem.

For sure we need people to but steem. If there are no buyers on the market Steem would have no value, regardless of the value under the posts!
So that why I do consider it important that there is a Dapp like Steemmonsters.
Steemmonsters does 2 things. It extracts people from outside the Steem blockchain towards the Steem blockchain. And if that isn't enough it also gives people an extra incentive to purchase steem!
Imagine what could happen with the value of Steem if we would have 5 of those dapps which does the same two things.
Cheers,
Peter

Hi @fullcoverbetting

We mostly need companies to invest in STEEM POWER. People will always have to little resources.

Great comment btw

Piotr

For the moment with the hibernation of full SMT’s there is no reason for companies to purchase steem.
Although if I as company was planning to come to steem, there is no better time to acquire Steem then now!

Very well said @fullcoverbetting

thx for your comment buddy

This post is upsetting to me. I have a post on my new @fitinfunfood blog with actual action steps people can take to succeed here. there are many more in the comments of the post.

https://steemit.com/dtube/@fitinfunfood/9zujjg0u

Small fish CAN start earning rewards quickly but the obstacles are many. My new account has the benefit on my knowledge and financial support. But even with a delegation of 100 sp, the rc issues present themselves. I am at 20 rc over there right now.

Telling little people to buy in, not get their hopes up, and have fun is not going to help them get some STEEM or sbi shares or anything else.

Dear @fitinfun

Why is this post upseting to you?

Because:

"Telling little people to buy in, not get their hopes up, and have fun is not going to help them get some STEEM or sbi shares or anything else."

They cannot even comment more than a few times a day, and will be gone in a week. they have no long game or the change to get one here unless they get some power.

Here are the actions steps I give people if they find my post:

Minnow Tips after One Week from fitinfunfood

I should say this is a very informative and helpful article. I am new here and I am still trying to get acquianted to the site. This will serve as a guidance to me and everyone else.

The past 4 months have been rough financially for me but I managed to buy some steem which got me to a minnow level, personally I really wish the price of steem stays low so I can buy more in the coming months.
I believe in steem and not looking at it for a short term goal.
The future here looks great!
