I don't get the prizes in Steem Monster cards... I need to spend almost 40 STEEM to be able to sell the cards. I don't get the point. My cards are just there, collecting dust. I can't play, I can't sell them, I can't even give them away. :-(
I hear what you are saying about the cost of the @steemmonsters starter pack @trincowski. I do not play, but my son @bxlphabet does and he really wanted that starter pack, for all the reasons you state. I thought it was too much money for the value, and so did not do it for months.
But recently, steemmonsters initiated an $upvote service. So if you write a post about them and tag it with #steemmonsters and then put it in the right place in discord, you get an upvote. These are running about $0.30 now. I paid $10 steem for my son's pack.
So now:
My son chose to do a daily update for his post. So he basically shows a screen shot of something steemmonsters related and talks about whatever happened that day in 150-400 words. 15-30 minutes and DONE!
Plus he is getting a lot of new connections and friends here and this is important for steem success as you know. And with all the many contests, he is still getting a ton of cards, and now even more since he can play the game and win them there each day.
Well, I might just buy a Starter Pack, just to see what all the fuss is about. However, I hardly have time for becoming addicted to a game right now. 😂

My son and I had talked and he was asking if he should start buying some cards now. Apparently, you quickly get to a place where you cannot function without cards that can ONLY be purchased. He walked me through some steps of it and I thought - maybe...
But!
Imagine "investing" all this time AND more steem than it takes to be a minnow and STILL not being able to function there.
That sounds like a money grabber. 😑

And then some! Time grabber too! But I know my son will get money back from the posts. He has a wealth of material and 300 words a day gets all his regular votes and now plus the steemmonsters vote. This will help him now and in the long run, so I am glad I got the starter deck for him. But any more? I do not think so.
Drug Wars sounds like a Money Grabber, too. I'm playing just for fun but I am not willing to spend my hard earned Steem on it. 😂
I joined that too. I do not know one bit how to play it but I clicked a few things and now they pay me steem each day!!! I am doing drug production or something like that. I've actually never played games or gambled, but if that is what it takes to get people in here steeming I am all for it!

hmm, that is a bummer.
The reason the first prize is a pack of SM cards is because a) They are our Sponsors, and b) A pack is currently going for about 7.5 STEEM.
I guess it depends how many packs you have as to whether it's worth investing in a starter set. One decent card will cover the investment, but you'll need a bit of luck.
Exactly. And after opening the pack, all my cards combined are worth around $0.50. So, obviously, I am not going to spend $10 to recover $0.50 ...

The starter pack is always the same cards I believe, but the ones gifted can contain anything.
Yes, I can open it... but that's it. I can't do anything else. I have around 20 cards now... and I can't do a thing with them. For me, they're more useless than ETH. :-P
Sell the ETH to buy a starter pack :D

The problem is I played Magic the Gathering when I was younger. I already know the game mechanics. And I know I have no patience for it right now. Maybe when I retire, 20 years from now... :-P

have you considered using them as prizes for others, I can sure you can give them away or gift them to your followers?
@paulag, that's not possible. Even the button "Send as Gift" is disabled.
really??? I dont play myself so I dont really know. I think maybe you should reach out to the mods from steemmonsters and see if they can help you as @newageinv suggests below
Reach out to some of the moderators on the @steemmonsters Discord like @clove71 as they often provide promo codes to get Starter packs for free! Then you could probably get a better feel for the game and decide from there.

Why, I was able to give all my cards away? I sent 3 booster packs and 3 cards as gifts. I did not even open the packs. I just sent them as they are... I just don't have any card now so I can't retrace the steps on how I did it but there should be the option to either sell or send as gift. I almost sold my packs and cards but I changed my mind... 😊
