HardFork 21 | Curation Update

in #curation5 years ago (edited)

It has been nearly 2 weeks since the HardFork 21 bomb dropped. With both the 50/50 split and the non-linear reward curve along with downvotes, curation will be much more important. I finally found some time today to start sorting it out for my account...

One of the major issues on Steem is that there has always been quite a large gap between doing what yields the best results trying to grow your own account and doing what is best for the platform. I personally always aim to find a fair balance between them which is not always easy, but I at try.

Steemit Content

If anything, Steemit the past 2+ years has done a great job when it comes down to connecting to like-minded and friendly people I can relate to. For as far as actual content goes, the platform is simply horrible. There is so much pressure on making daily posts and the difference in payouts between good and bad content is slim to none which is why so many users get worn down reverting to an Auto-Pilot post2mine mode.

The previous Durgwars shitpost plague along with current Actifit shitpost plague are the best examples of people not even trying to pretend anymore. I often feel like a fool for putting time into my post always creating a custom front image and such, but then again I still enjoy the writing and most of my posts have an actual function for myself aside from the post-earnings as they help me stay sharp in my betting.

As for the content I care for, it is pretty much limited to reading what some friends are up to, getting the latest news on what's new here on Steemit and the occasional interesting post I stumble upon. Steemit simply isn't the place for quality content in its current form.

Auto-Curation

I am personally a fan of auto-curation, Putting people I like, have potential to grow, do good for the platform, are genuine, are somewhat invested, give me some support,... onto and auto-upvote list when they can be trusted to bring decent enough quality. We al have limited time and manually curating simply is not on top of my priority list and I see nothing wrong with that.

HF 21 Small Account Kill Switch

The main problem with Hardfork 21 is that it seems to have flipped some kind of Kill Switch for smaller accounts with the non-linear reward curve. Upvoting someone that will only get 0.20$-0.50$ upvotes in total makes you lose out on a lot of curation rewards for as far as I understand that it has just become impossible on Steem. The tribes seem to offer something of a 'solution' as many seem to have given up on getting steem upvotes now focussing on tribe Upvotes.

HF21 Curation Personal Changes

I was quite skeptical when Sportstalk.social tribe was created. Having been a sports blogger for 2+ years on the platform myself, all of a sudden everyone started to become a sports blogger just because of a tribe token that had nothing to back it's value up gave crazy rewards with a 100 billion coin supply. With the creation of @sportsvoter and the fact that the price came down to more reasonable levels, I did invest quite a bit in SPORTS buying myself up to 825.000 Staked Sports over the last week and still adding to that. The idea is to give my content some more exposure while it should allow me to but a daily upvote from the @sportsvoter account which I will desperately need to get my steemit playouts closer to non-linear Levels.

It is impossible to properly curate SPORTS while also having around 10K SP as most sportstalk posts don't even come close to 0.50$ in Steem upvotes. So I was pretty much forced to make a new account @costanza.sports just to curate on sportstalk.social. I already put quite a few on my auto-upvote and will be adding more based on consistent content / investment / upvotes I get / delegation to sportsvoter / ...

I will also have a list with accounts to manually curate as I'm not really willing to upvote any of the standardized Actifit posts and others alike. Feel free to let me know in the comments who's worth supporting!

Sportsvoter Delegators

@sportstvoter to me is what gives SPORTS the most value and I have put everyone that has at least 250SP leased out to it on my Steemauto auto-upvote list and I have just leased 1000 SP to @sportsvoter myself.

Steemit Posting / Curation

I will continue making 1 post a day on average keeping the quality up as high as possible and making sure all post get upvoted to at least around 5$ (using daily Steemmonsters / sportsvoter / tipu / ... upvotes) which hopefully will make it more attractive for others to put me on their list.

For as far as curation goes, in the past, it was hard to upvote bigger accounts because it was virtually impossible to get upvotes back looking at it from a realistic selfish angle. The new rules heavily favor the big guys and I will be adding some of the ones I follow and appreciate (@exyle / @acidyo /@nanzo-scoop / ... ) who also put effort in the platform on it while being forced to remove some of the smaller accounts putting them on manual curation.

Some that were on my list at 20%-25% who I really appreciate as they are keeping it real not bending their ways for a pos2mine routine (@plantstoplanks | @roleerob) were bumped up to 100%. Keep being awesome !

Both Palnet (525 PAL Staked) and Steemleo (200 LEO Staked) upvotes are still linked to my SP upvotes. Pal will have a x1 multiplier and LEO a x4 Multiplier.

That's if for as far as my curation goes, I will be tweaking things and looking for new accounts to add / follow in the comming weeks and am always willing to give support back if your content is up to a good enough standard. Thanks

Thanks for mentioning me in your post and appreciate your initiative to support the sport community. I believe in sports token platform and have delegated. I will try to increase my delegation in coming weeks. Thanks

With your 1k Steem delegation to Sportsvoter, how many sports do you get daily from it?

I'm curious!

I had no clue you even get SPORTS for delegating to the Sportsvoter, let alone know how much.
It would be a great mechanic though if part of the reward pool went to delegators. That would potentially make this tribe so much stronger and payouts on post at more reasonable levels.

It's true! We are distributing 10% of the original rewards pool to SP delegators based on their share of the total delegation. Those rewards are paid to delegators as 75% SPORTS POWER / 25% SPORTS to encourage continued use of the platform.

https://www.sportstalksocial.com/sportstalk/@sportstalksocial/introducing-sportsvoter-or-earn-sports-for-delegating-steem-power

Today @costanza was paid out 474.526 SPORTS in addition to 1423.577 SPORTS POWER.

I am humbled by your decision to increase your support for my work @costanza. I have never been nor very unlikely to ever be a prolific content creator. But ... What I do create, I give it 100% of what I have to offer. For me, a "post2mine" mentality is just "not me," so I can't imagine that ever being an issue.

"Keep on keeping on" my Belgian friend and we'll both hope together that our Steem blockchain has brighter days ahead! 👍

P.S. While I have had limited engagement with @plantstoplanks, I agree she is a great content creator. In honor of you featuring us together, I'll "go over" to her account now and see what I can do to show some more support.

Well, thank the new rule changes :-) They allow me to upvote more those that I appreciate who I know will likely get enough upvotes not to screw over any curation rewards I'm getting for it :)

I still think there is a long way to go in order to make steem work though and I'm far from sure that we will ever get there. One thing is for sure, people are bound to do what is most profitable for them. HF21 at least is a step in the right direction even though it took a huge step backward in making it I would say nearly impossible for new guys to get anything going while making everything even more complicated than it already was. Still, this platform does something right as I really missed it the days it was down. I'm looking forward what the next couple of years will bring us.

Nice to see you give some support to Katie, if anything it really speaks for her that she's thriving now on HF21.

Yes @costanza ...

"I still think there is a long way to go in order to make steem work though and I'm far from sure that we will ever get there."

... and you are not afraid to make this statement. This is a part of why I appreciate what you are doing and happily support it.

"One thing is for sure, people are bound to do what is most profitable for them."

Yep, the ancient WIIFM principle has been around since the beginning of time and the utopian vision of what a decentralized blockchain might be able to accomplish will never be free of it IMHO. And I agree with your impressions these latest changes have some benefit to them. But ... In so doing, made the slope of that "steep mountain" we all must learn to climb even greater ...

One sad development from my perspective (back to WIIFM ...) is the significant reduction of any upvoting on comments written. The best ROI for our SP under these new rules doesn't enccourage it ...

Well, on into my day. Happy to give some support to Katie as one of the "good people" on our Steem blockchain.

Thanks again for all you are doing!

"One sad development from my perspective is the significant reduction of any upvoting on comments written."

Indeed, a combination of the low Steem price with the new HF21 rules make it nearly impossible to upvote comments. The good thing is that it's a great counter for abuse and empty upvote phishing comments (that used to be a plague). It if was up to me I would just remove the comment upvotes and replace them with a tipping function. Similar to how you click on the upvote button now, it would upvote directly from your own SBD funds also making the comments go higher up based on amounts.

I'm sure it's not that hard for the devs to implement something like that and many (including myself) would be using that function.

I very much appreciate the support you have given me among all your spheres of influence! I can definitely appreciate the work you put in to trying to understand how to benefit yourself, but more so everyone else. So far I can't complain as it seems I am actually getting more rewards at the moment, but time will tell. At least it gives me more support to pay it forward while I can! Otherwise I'm just going to keep on sharing the veggie and fitness love, along with whatever else ignites passion on a given day. :)

It's nice to see you crushing it on HF21 Katie, make sure not to forget including the sportstalk tag in all posts fitness-related ;-)

Good call! It always gets added to Actifit posts, but I was without a phone for half a week and hadn't used it in a while. I'll have to remember when I do any other fitness posts, too. :)

I have been very vocal about @sportsvoter account too as I'm seeing its big impact to the sportstalk community for a lot of reasons.

That's why I made series of posts suggesting that with the implementation of HF21, the vote bids should be aligned with the new HF Curatio reward split. You might want to see these posts of mine :

Also, I would like to nominate myself to be one of the people to be supported by you. I've been seeing your votes on some of my posts, just dropping by to have a hi! :)
