dtubesnap Vientiane Laos Tuk Tuk Ride to the Friendship Bridge 100 thb
I made several trips to Vientiane Laos in order to get new visas for Thailand during the two and a half years I was there. I needed to leave the country each 90 days and go to the Thai Embassy in another country to obtain a new visa. Vientiane was a pretty good trip for this purpose.
If I got myself to the border near Vientiane, I could get a tuk tuk ride to the city and back. Hundreds of people do this each day, and tuk tuks are waiting at the border in the morning when we all got off the train or other transport. Then the tuk tuks are waiting at the Embassy each afternoon for the crowds of people going back to Thailand. It's fairly efficient and the six people needed for a full ride are quick to appear.
This is the beginning of one of those rides back to the border from the city. I seriously felt like I was taking my life into my hands as the tuk tuks go fast and are very open to the elements. After the turn at the end of this video, we are on an open highway and go much faster then you see here. During that portion of the trip, I am pretty much hanging on for dear life.
The cost of this 30 minute ride is 100 thb, which is about $3.50 usd. They take thb for this ride and value this more than the local currency. Lao Kip has no value in any other country, so you need to get rid of them before crossing back into Thailand.

Haha! Your idea would do very well at the main train station in Bangkok. Everyone thinks they want to ride in one of these things until they do.
I'm just glad they do not try for eight! On this visa run route they have steady business all day on weekdays and not as much on weekends. I'm pretty sure the drivers are doing great in the economy up there :)

HaHa! I rarely use them since they are so hard to get in and out of, but sometimes you have no choice. Sometimes even four people is a squeeze. I am sure you were all like sardines with seven. Tuk tuk rides are a time for deep prayer in my case and I am not kidding!
I need to look though my photos to show how your knees are so high and the seats are so low. I am sure most people watching my posts have no idea :)
