Curating on sportstalksocial.com, A question on guidelines?

My thoughts on sportstalk.

Since this site has been in operation I have spend a lot more time here than on steemit.com as the content is far more relevant to my interests and therefore a lot more enjoyable to pass the time. With that in mind I have powered up a decent stake and have been using it to both upvote and downvote the content I have seen there. Now downvoting on steemit has always been seen as a heated subject on the site with people taking it personally. To be fair, I must have used it less than 50 times in the past two years. It was also the reason that we had so much random shit on the chain with people posting random photos then fully upvoting them ten times a day.

Sportstalksocial isn't my site, that would go to @patrickulrich for creating it but I think it has great potential and would love to see it thrive through good content and passionate users. That's why i won't be shy to use my vote around the place. However I'm not the judge and jury so would like everybody's opinion and what kind of content guidelines we would like to see as more people experiment with the site and what Patrick would like to see for his project.

I think it would be good to have a set of guidelines in place for people joining the site which clearly state what is and isn't acceptable content for the site so that we can present the best possible view for those using the platform. This is only my opinion and you can tell me to fuck off if that's your view on guidelines but at least I can see how people would like to use it.

Setting standards.

In my opinion I would like to see,

  • Posts with text as well as photos.
  • Posts well written and formatted. ( Don't have to be essays, just clear and simple.)
  • Posts on sports topics only. (Should these include the likes of chess, steemmonsters?)
  • Esports kept on topic of competitive gaming.
  • Unique works and not copy/ pastes.

I don't want to see,

  • Random posts that mention a word like sport somewhere. (holiday pics, blog pieces that say i like sport at the end.)
  • Photos with no text or context.
  • Steemmonster posts or reward card posts.
  • Plagiarised writing form another source.
  • Reward farming where a person posts ten times daily and upvotes themselves. ( It's there already just like certain people on steemit.)

Now again I stress that this is only my opinion and the basis of how I will curate with hopefully a large stake behind it. I would like to know the communities opinion on these points or any other ones you can think off to give a clearer picture. It would be nice to have a common ground between the users which should lead to better content and a better site instead of falling away like steemit.com has been doing for the past while. So let me know about it and hopefully @patrickulrich will get involved too and we can put some community guidelines in place for us to grow.

what do you think about the bettors and the posts on predictions and bets?

I personally would like to see more well thought out and reasoned betting posts but I am afraid they will just become vehicles for spamming. We will see as the platform develops :-)

I want to create a group of serious bettors ... if you look at my 2 posts you can get an idea

I'll take a look at your posts later to see your angle. For me I like them if they have made the bet and why. Depends on the info behind them and not just spam messages.

yes you're right, what I want to do here, It's creating a community of bettors, we already have a Discord server.
scorum.com blitzprediction.com and sportstalksocial.com

Sports and betting are like peas and carrots, so I have no problem with some betting info!

Absolutely spot-on. I have been rather retrained in the last week, simply adding polite messages to posts that are non sport related or designed to farm rewards but I've never been afraid to drop flags even if they are not worth much. People don't care about their value, they just hate flags!
Right now it's great fun here and there is lots of engagement and long may that continue . I also noticed the 10 a day spammer. He has quite a lot of SP but if he doesn't desist with his tweets , I will bang downvotes on every post . It's a type of sport ;-)

We don't need another one of those on our hands. I'll probably send a message there to be polite but again it needs to be cut out early before it goes too far.

I tend to down vote with a message as to why I did it. Hopefully they will see the reasoning behind it and improve. I don't want to kill the fun but there is a line to be had.

I am seeing it already . Guys just putting up youtube videos without any content or description . This could be a great platform but unless these guys get flsgged now then they are going to end up whales and the platform will go the way steemit has gone. Totally agree with above

Exactly. It's that kind of thing we don't need starting. I don't want to see page long essays but there needs to be some content behind it. We don't want to repeat the same mistakes as steemit. PAL have set up borders to prevent this happening and I would like to see some as well.

How do palnet do it? Are their team bigger. I know SBI don't payout on dlike posts because no content in most. its creeping in here

They have a team of people set up with stake to keep things on track. They have a set of guidelines to go by and the moderators make sure the community sticks to them.

You have a point. It's a thin line, what is accepted, and what not. I curate quite a lot over here too. And people just putting some random stuff don't get my vote... But maybe that's not enough... I am kind of soft on flagging, but maybe it's up to Patrick to put in some guidelines... Thanks for your commitment to the platform!

Exactly. So the people here now should be setting the example for the ones coming later. If we can agree on some common rules to improve the community and stop the bad behaviour then the people coming next will see how to act.
