Fighting To Keep Our Chidren's Freedom to Educate Themselves

IMG_6868.JPG

As I have mentioned in my introduction, my two eldest daughters go to a creative hub for home educated children a few times during the week, where they mix with other kids in nature, create amazing art projects, adventure playgrounds, music, the list is endless really. It is set in the mountains and surrounded by trees and I for one feel very lucky that this space has been available for my two. They love it there, and the team working with the children are amazing and talented and very child focused, everything they do comes from the child first. it is their space and they really call the shots and also create the rules. Which they are happy to put in place and enforce which actually surprised me at first.

Now this space is currently in danger, the local police came one day but luckily we were made aware that actions where being put in place to investigate and there was no one there that day. In Spain there are currently no laws saying you can home educate your kids but there are also no laws saying you can't. Some people have manged to win there cases as it is seen as child abandonment over here if a child is not in school over the age of 6. This took a long time and alot of money also. These people were also mainly Spanish. I'm not and my children are not registered here, but I do live in a Truck, which at the moment needs some work so is going to be here for a while until that can be financed and sorted.

I love my life and would not change it, but I donot know how Spain really views families living in Trucks and on top of that not sending their children to school. Will they see my lifestyle as child abandonment. I really don't know.
I want my kids to be happy and stay with this amazing space, and we re looking at moving the creative hub to another site. But also I don't want my children to be in a situation where they have to come into contact with the police or social services.

Suddenly my children's freedom seems to be under threat and I don't like it, but also don't know what to do that will result in the best for them.

Please support @familyprotection, there really is a huge need for this amazing project.

Thank you for sharing @trucklife-family,

I know this place and It would be a real shame to have to tell them children that It must close down.

I hope for a better solution.

Thanks Mark,
For us personally as a family, we think it is too much of a risk to continue to send our two girls there. Their safety comes first and foremost, as I said in the post our lifestyle also puts us at risk of being told we are "abandoning" our children's welfare. It's been a real tough decision.

I understand How you feel.. Don't give up... Your kids deserve the best, and I'm sure you'll give them just that with time. We're here to help.

Thank you pangoli for your kind words and your support.

Hey there, noticed this through resteem of mark wittham. We are also truck family, we drove all the way to India and have been here for 15 years now, our kids are free here :-). Nice to discover you, will follow, take care, much love

hey bubke, real nice to meet another truck family, you must have lots of stories to tell. would love to hear about your journey to india. Thanks for your post. Gra agus Solas

I’m hoping for a positive turn out in all of this. I am definitely with you on that your children’s safety comes first. It’s frustrating how they label home education as “abandonment”. The numbers don’t lie, so many studies have been conducted proving that home educated kids are above their grade levels. It’s sad that they want our kids to be boxed in and not free to expand their learning. Upped and Steemed! You’ve got my support and prayers.

Thank you crosheille, my girls are super smart and confident. I have every faith in the way they learn, it's such a shame that children are not trusted to guide their own learning. Learning through play is so important especially when they are younger. Thanks for your support.

You are so welcome. I totally agree! They learn so much through play. It’s so important to let them explore their creativity.

I've been up against CPS here in Alberta before too. I wrote a post about it a few weeks ago. It is tough when dealing with the state as they just don't get it. To them, rules are rules. It is very black and white for them. Hang in there my friend. We will make a difference by standing up against tyranny. Our youth deserve better than what the state has ever provided. <3 Peace and love to you and your two daughters.

Thanks wwf, our youth definitely deserve better. Trust in them goes a long way. It is great to know there is support out there.

The idea of a standardized educational system have always not been great, why force evryone to pass through all that formalities. Education is Learning, and Learning is gotten from any setting. Childrean in a comfortable home-schooled-setting have always turned out great, since they enjoy what they do while learning. your kids safety is you top priority right now. Peace be with you and your family

Thank you kryptocoin, the educational system is very narrow in it's views on how children and adults learn. They take the joy out of learning, and I have have loved watching my girls have so much fun while educating themselves. I feel we are here to guide and advise when asked by them. Thanks so much for your kind words. It's really nice to feel supported.

Wow! Interesting that there are no stated laws for or against homeschool in Spain. That is kind of the way it is here as well. We hear that you can do whatever is legal in the country you are from, so if it is legal there, you can homeschool and if it is illegal, you can't. Panamanians must send their children to school as homeschooling is not an option. We have not formally checked this out, however. Hopefully you can continue to do as you are and educate your children as you desire. Trucking around Spain sounds pretty cool.

thank you apanamamama, we will always home educate, we feel very strongly about that, it's really about trying to stay under the radar.

Yes, I totally understand that.

I'm using @red-rose to resteem this for you! don't want it getting lost in the sea of spam on steemit!

Sounds like some people need to learn the definition of "abandonment". Just from reading it seems to me like you're doing the opposite of dumping them somewhere to fend for themselves!
