Health War: Good Idea: "Trans Fats Should Be Eliminated From All Food Over the Next 5 Years: World Health Organization" Bad Idea: What they want you to eat instead

in #food6 years ago (edited)

(NEW YORK) — The World Health Organization has released a plan to help countries wipe out trans fats from the global food supply in the next five years.

In a statement Monday, the U.N. health agency said eliminating trans fats is critical to preventing deaths worldwide. WHO estimates that eating trans fats — commonly found in baked and processed foods — leads to the deaths of more than 500,000 people from heart disease every year.

I'm going to start calling these articles I do on food and health Healthwar because there's a lot of disinformation in these main stream media(MSM) health articles. This one isn't to bad but it's like many other MSM articles that don't get to the root of the problem. So in these Healthwar articles I'll offer some alternatives or more natural solutions to the problem and explain the problem in more detail than these MSM articles.

So lets get back to this article, eliminating trans fats from food would be really good thing for the overall health and well being of the worlds population. 500,000 people a year is a lot of lives that could be saves if we switch to a healthier fat.

What I don't like about this article is the spin in this paragraph.

Artificial trans fats are unhealthy substances that are created when hydrogen is added to vegetable oil to make it solid, like in the creation of margarine or shortening. Health experts say they can be replaced with canola oil or other products. There are also naturally occurring trans fats in some meats and dairy products.

Notice how they offer canola oil am unsaturated fat as a better alternative and knock animal fats which are saturated fats by saying they contain "some" trans fats.

Corporations love to push trans fat on people:

Ever notice on the ingredients of cake mix or mac and cheese boxes they always say to add Margarine but never butter. Have you ever wondered why they do that? I believe all these big food companies are all owned by the same banks, investment firms and oil companies. So they are merely promoting another processed food that these bankster as I like to call them make money off of. They don't want you buying butter from the local dairy or making it yourself because that would cut into their profits. Also, Imagine all the money they make when you get heart disease from these processed fats.

Why You Should Never Eat Vegetable Oil or Margarine

This is a good site to learn more about healthier alternatives to Margarine and also the vegetable oil that this article is promoting as a better alternative. I'll share a some key points with you that this website explains but everyone should do their own research and figure out what's best for themselves.

Vegetable oils (and margarine, made from these oils) are oils extracted from seeds like the rapeseed (canola oil) soybean (soybean oil), corn, sunflower, safflower, etc. They were practically non-existent in our diets until the early 1900s when new chemical processes allowed them to be extracted.

Unlike butter or coconut oil, these vegetable oils can’t be extracted just by pressing or separating naturally. They must be chemically removed, deodorized, and altered. These are some of the most chemically altered foods in our diets, yet they get promoted as healthy.

These types of fats are new to our bodies, they're not just hard on the heart but also the liver because it takes extra work to break them down.

Rapeseed oil contains high amounts of the toxic erucic acid, which is poisonous to the body. Canola oil is an altered version, also called Low Erucic Acid Rapeseed (LEAR) and it is commonly genetically modified and treated with high levels of pesticides.

This is the oil the article says it a good alternative. If I remember right erucic acid causes inflammation in joints and inflammation can lead to arthritis. Doesn't sound like that great of an alternative to me.

The fat content of the human body is about 97% saturated and monounsaturated fat, with only 3 % Polyunsaturated fats. Half of that three percent is Omega-3 fats, and that balance needs to be there. Vegetable oils contain very high levels of polyunsaturated fats, and these oils have replaced many of the saturated fats in our diets since the 1950s.

The problem is that polyunsaturated fats are highly unstable and oxidize easily in the body (if they haven’t already oxidized during processing or by light exposure while sitting on the grocery store shelf). These oxidized fats cause inflammation and mutation in cells.

If our bodies are made up of 97% saturated fat which is fat from animals, coconuts and a few other plants then why are we being told to eat trans fats that we learned are now bad for us and vegetable oils that aren't that great for us either.

It's clear to me that all fats are not created equally and the more heavily processed ones promoted by corporations seem to be the worst for us all. This is just another example of how corporations got it wrong and how nature is still the best. The best thing to learn from this is to do your homework when the next "latest and greatest" heavily processed food crave come around and all the media and corporations are promoting it because if it's anything like the Margarine crave it's probably better off in the trash than in your food.

So I was reading along until I came to the Mac and cheese with margarine part. I didn’t believe you so I stopped to google image the directions on the box, only to come back and find out you already provided the image! Lol!
My husband gets these farming soybean magazines in the mail (he didn’t sign up, they just come) and in one of them, there was a little blurb about how new studies are showing soybean oil (or maybe soybeans in general, I don’t remember) is healthy for you and that it will be promoted to the public. Yea, I’m sure studies just happen to show how “healthy” they are. My husband has been going away from soybeans because they haven’t been making too much money lately. I don’t know why the market wants soybeans to begin with. Maybe like you said, so pharma can make some money on drugs and whatnot.

Hehe, I've stay away from Margarine for a few years now so I notice it all the time when I'm making supper.

Soybean oil has to go through a similar process that canola does because it's poisonous to eat raw. Soy Milk also blocks the absorption of vitamins and minerals so it's really not that good to drink either. It's a cheap food additive so of course Big Agra is going to be promoting it over the real deal. It's sad state our food industry is in because it's all about quantity over quality.

Stay away from gmo soy. Organic soy is a superfood. All oil is bad for you, even coconut oil. Animal fats are worse.

One of the worst things is the solvent they use to extract these oils, Hexane, a cancer causing solvent. Chinese women are getting lung cancer from cooking with Canola oil in woks nobody can figure out why.
Hexane.

So what’s a good alternative? I know some use coconut oil or olive oil. I’ve heard of palm oil but I can never find that in the store?

Red palm oil is supposed to be good, coconut oil, olive oil or butter( although for you I suppose the whole point is not to use butter because of dietary laws but so long as your not eating meat butter is good), hemp oil is great for cold uses.

I had no idea what you were talking about with the butter, so I had to google if it was kosher. Oh my goodness! Seriously, the food industry will sneak anything and everything they can into our foods! Sigh..

You had to google if mixing meat and dairy is kosher?

I had to google why butter wouldn’t be kosher. I had no idea it had the same issue as cheese. Butter should be a no brainer, but the way they make our food these days, I suppose we can’t trust anything.
Mixing meat and dairy is only an issue if the meat is unclean?

Don't boil a kid(baby goat) in it's mothers milk. Is the rule which can be interpreted as don't mix meat and dairy. From a food combining perspective(a diet commonly known as fit for life) meat and dairy are different kinds of protein and should be eaten separately. Since butter is mostly fat I don't see a problem with it.
I believe the original law was to avoid meat sacrificed to an idol in this specific way.

That is very possible. My interpretation of that verse is to not slaughter an animal while it’s still nursing.

I wonder why they keep pushing these plant fats as an alternative. Are they pursuing a vegan agenda? We can't all be vegan

I believe the banksters are blood suckers and could careless about the average joe. They control the majority of our companies including drug and health companies so to me it makes sense for them to be promoting cheap unhealthy food so they can profit off of that and also when we get sick from eating this crap they make more money selling us drugs and treatments.
