Why is it so fucking hard to give away money here?

in #freewrite6 years ago

So, it's day 6 of my shitty comment contest and there actually aren't that many entries! Like, all you have to do is post a shitty comment. How hard is that? Sure, you can try a bit harder and give a bit more of a funny shitty comment, but you can literally just post "nice post" and it's a valid entry.

This is something I've seen a lot on the Steem blockchain. There are all sorts of contest happening all over Steem all the time. There are people giving away free money and delegations for minimal effort. Sure, some of them require an upvote and a resteem, but that's not too much to ask for, given that they're giving you the opportunity to get free money. All of these contest have a lot better chances to win than any lottery. Yet often very few people enter them...

What is with Steem?

Why are people so unwilling to put in any effort to get free money? It's like this place gives people a feeling like there's free money everywhere, so why try? People definitely get this sort of disassociation between crypto and money. It's just fake internet money. Except it's not super hard to actually buy things with the money from Steem. I'm sitting on a chair that I bought with crypto.

I hate money...it's really fucking annoying the way our capitalist system works. Sometimes it really doesn't even make sense. But we all need money to live. So why don't people want to put even minimal effort into entering a contest? Mine didn't even require an upvote or a resteem. Just a shitty comment. It's fun.

I don't get it.

I don't understand it myself. I've managed to grow my account massively over the past 6 months and the majority of it was just entering competitions and interacting with people. I not much into posting my own content so I enter contests and chase bounties.

I find it fun and can make 30+ steem per week doing it. I know that doesn't mean much right now but if we hit 10 dollars at some stage it will mean an awful lot. When I started here there were so many red fish complaining about not being voted but how could they when nobody knows who they are. If you put yourself out there people will get to know you and then follow you out of real interest.

Yeah, I often think about what I view Steem as being worth. I think $10 is very likely. I personally don't really want to sell much until it's at least around $8.

I just saw that word "red fish" today. I have no clue what it means. Never seen it before.

I've no reason to sell. Everything will get powered up for the long term and see where we can go. I see great potential for the next few years.

Red fish is a level of sp. Under 500sp.
Minnow is 500sp to 5000sp then dolphin, orca, and whale over 500000sp. Just terms really.

Where's the link to the contest post? I want to participate if it's still on

If you're interested in contests, you may want to try this one: https://steemit.com/steemmonsters/@pizzachain/steemmonsters-poetry-contest-steemmonsters-cards-steemmonsters-packs-and-sbi-shares

SteemMonsters cards are part of the prizes, but if you don't want to be involved with SteemMonsters, I can change that to SBI instead.

It's right at the top of the post.

Its because nobody reads posts

I read post. Every post that I've commented on, I always read through them so that my comment would be meaningful

Dammit! You're probably right...

That is the main reason as well.

Sorry I missed your posts as I only look at trending.

I bypass "trending" and look for "new," because trending means it's already gotten a lot of upvotes.
I skim past a lot of contest posts because they might (1) require participation in a Discord channel and I found myself in a hundred channels, and just shut out the Discord icon on my computer so I wouldn't even see it anymore; (2) the resteem and upvote of the post is no big deal, but (3) requiring further steps to enter a contest just has me off in a corner, writing, shutting out the world. And then I have hardly anyone reading or upvoting or commenting on my stuff, hence, the need to promote and enter contests....

Sounds relly screwed up doesn't it. I don't enter contests because I am usually crap at them. I don't go to trending because they are usually rubbish botted to hell and back.I don't know what to say but just keep going.

Trending most of the time is pretty much is the top bidbot-abusers and/or top self-vote abusing orca list.

Well, clearly the best posts are there.

Yeah right lol.

Honestly, "Shitty Comment Contest" doesn't sound like a lot of fun to me.

I do agree, though, on the fact that contests/giveaways don't get a lot of participants nowadays. I host them quite often, but I don't get much more than 10 entries most of the time.

Take this example:
https://steemit.com/steemmonsters/@pizzachain/steemmonsters-poetry-contest-steemmonsters-cards-steemmonsters-packs-and-sbi-shares

And that's the case with a lot of giveaways/contests, though I try to boost them a bit and promote them on the discords. I try to make them as fun as possible, but still only get a couple folks to actually participate.

I hosted writing contests, with SBD pools ranging from $3 for a quick story to $20 for a longer one, and the last contest only got ONE entry, so I just quit. I was giving away money, and yes, writers had to earn it by writing, but we have a LOT of writers here at steemit.
As for the comment contest... I missed it! I also tend to say nothing at all rather than post something snarky at the expense of a blogger, because most people, I find, are NOT thick-skinned. I can blow off the insults of a troll. What if a trusted friend starts getting snide and demeaning on ya? Well, you try to clear things up, and if you get thrown under the busy, you get up and move on. Why am I still here at Steemit? Because for every troll, there's a sweetheart. Or maybe ten good people for every shark. I don't do the math...

You'd be surprised. I did it for a laugh months ago and it turned out to be super fun. It's like having a laugh at how certain comments are.

Often when we get shitty comments, it's almost depressing. But turning it into a contest, where people actually have to try to make the shittiest comments possible, it turns it on it's face. Then suddenly, you're laughing at the simplest shitty comments.

I suppose it's a matter of opinion then... :/

Thank you for being here for me, so I can be here for you.
Enjoy your day and stay creative!
Botty loves you. <3

Good thing is that after reading this post you made me want to participate in the contests. It also reminds me of my fail October challenge which I thought lots of new steemians will find useful but none really participated.
I'll leave the link below not really wanting an upvote but people might still find it useful.

Seems to be getting harder, or its the game element. Recently ran a task request with an extra 34 STEEM bounty. Zero responses. Trying again by not just giving money away (5x5 STEEM for a short review) but books as well, one free ebook download so far. A few months back I ran a number of beta reading contests and these were definitely quite a bit better, but there was a lottery aspect to it, so not sure if its the game aspect or if people are just less interested now because STEEM is low.

I think Steem being low might have something to do with it...but I think it's just general laziness, possibly combined with people just not reading posts.

I miss a lot of posts on my feed though, so maybe it's just that not enough people catch it.

I would think that people from countries that have a lot lower cost of living would be trying to enter as many contests as possible though, as a single win could be as much as they earn in a day or even a week. We're just not seeing that for some reason.
