RE: The Hidden Elements of Homesteading: Est Apple Orchard!!!

disease resistant bioregional fruit varieties.

That sounds like such a dream. I've struggled so much with our fruit trees. I am sure a big part of the problem is that they come from all over Canada rather than from local. How wonderful that you have connected with someone who can supply you with such special trees.

Sometimes it seems like we've toiled all year and made no progress but a glance back sometimes tells another story. I really am excited for you, I know all the work that went into preparing for this moment.

I hear you on bioregional fruit. Out of the 1000s of apple varieties , only 15 make up 90% of production. Apples are tough, no matter where you are though.

I can relate to thinking the toil is all for naught, but it’s all part of the growth process. Have you tried pears? They are said to do much better in most places.

We are honored to have the chance to grow such well adapted varieties. Ames has put soooo much effort into finding what works and we are so stoked to see how they do.

All that said we will put much more of our focus on paw paws, that’s where we see fruit production going!
