First world tragedy has struck. I stayed up until 6 am yesterday trying to fix the problem.

I slept for 4 hours and then spent the entire day today STILL trying to fix the problem.

In a freak accident, I lost a lot of information on my laptop.

Amongst the lost info, about 19 hours worth of writing for steemit is gone.

All the posts I wrote for this week are gone.

It always sucks to re-write something because it never seems to turn out as good as the first time. Is there a name for that, like Murphy's law or something?

Because I'm pretty sure that's just a universal truth of how life works.

But, luckily, I at least made sure to write all of my important passwords on a piece of paper so I'm okay on that front.

And I still have all of my pictures and videos! Just text files are gone.

Like I said, freak accident.

I'm the freak, and I have a lot of accidents haha.

The moral of this story?

Double back up your stuff. If you don't know how to back it up, take a dance class. Oops. That's a different kind of packing up.

Who am I kidding??

I don't actually have a moral to this story.

I just wanted to say "hi" and "sorry for the subpar steemit post, but I have an excuse signed by my mom!" and "How many hours of sleep do ants get per night?" and "I wish a doctors note could get me out of this dilemma" and "Happy Sunday, there' still so much to be grateful for!"

And maybe also "if you're a macbook genius, hit me up! If you know one, tell them to hit me up!"

If you're not, enjoy the picture that has nothing to do with the contents of this post. I took it a couple of years ago in the Dominican Republic and I like it and it would be wrong to keep it all to myself.

Aww, crap, sorry to hear that? Are you sure coconut oil won't help? :(

Hahaha you saw the tags! I'm googling it now just to double check

Ah! This is a tragedy as we know you would have had some absolute banging stories with your humorous twist! That's life, it can hit you like "a ton of bricks", but luckily it's just a metaphor as we doubt you would survive such an event 😂 Keep smiling as we live and learn 😉

Hahaha I even had one about a cat falling through the roof. Onto my bed!!! But I wrote it the day it happened so it had all the raw emotion.

I'd rather be hit by a "ton of cat" than a "ton of bricks" any day. Thank you!

Oh grrrrrrrl, I know this pain, and it's a deep ache that also stings so bad!

A friend and I spent a year and a half traveling across three continents filming underground Circus Culture, and in the throws of editing the material, our camera, laptop, memory cards AND backup hardrive were stolen out of her car in Oakland.

Gone. All gone. I honestly just had to laugh, because what else could I do at that point....?

Omg, that's horrible!!!! Were you guys filming for a job??

I think the saddest part was I had a lot of stories/things my grandma said written down, and I'm not able to get it back. That's probably the biggest pain.

Well, that and losing a list of over 200 business ideas I had...but maybe it's good to get rid of those because I have too many ideas and they start to overwhelm me anyway.

I have to laugh a lot because something crazy is always happening haha.

Oh wow.... that part is heartbreaking, that your grandmas stories slipped away.... Is she still alive? Can you recapture those moments?

I feel you on the business idea part, maybe it is cleansing to release those ideas. ELizabeth Gilbert does an amazing TED talk on the nature of Genius, and that reminds me a lot of the metaphors she uses about ideas. . . Totally worth watching!

ANd yeah, I have to laugh about it all... I mean, there was sooooo much material, and its been sooooo long since we shot it, I don't actually even know what all was there.

I just wish that whoever stile the hard drive at least looked at the pictures and video before wiping it clean. . .

To answer your question: We were self-funding the tech and travel in the hopes of selling the finished documentary later on. . .

I won't be able to get them back. Thanks for the TED recommendation!

Man that's so cool that you guys were self-funding... I LOVE how gutsy you are!

Poor soul, sorry to hear that. I'm not a macbook genius, but I just want to say that you never posted anything subpar, even if it's about this freak('s) accident, your fun moral of b(p)acking up makes it sound less miserable. And I love coconut oil too! :D

haha you're so sweet! Thanks for making me feel a lil' better!

That super sucks!

Not fun. Good
Luck with the rewrites!

Thank you!!! I'm going to have to do some kind of dance or something to get inspired again!

Lol trying to recover files is like waiting in the ER room....will they get recovered? Will they look okay?

haha

Oh no!! That really is a freak accident - how come only text files???
My moral of the story is that I keep everything in the dropbox and pretty much nothing on my actual computer. I guess something like this happened to me years ago, too :)

Beautiful picture of a lighthouse, though!

Hey, if you don't know what to post for the next 30 days, here's an idea. Super easy!!! :)

Oo that's pretty cool! Thanks for sharing that! I love when people come up with ideas because I know some people really struggle with thinking of something to post about.

That's not usually my problem (although I did lose my huge list of post ideas as well =/).

It's just always more difficult to make something as good the second time as it was the first time when you felt more inspired I guess.

Oh well, life goes on and I'm officially giving up on recovering my files because I've had zero luck.

Hm dropbox got full, google drive got full, I may just start saving things in drafts on my email. OR save the documents in a save-able format.

I have no idea how to save the notes!

Google drive got full? Is that even possible?? 😄
I don’t even know what you mean by “notes” on the Mac, I guess I have never used them. But if it’s the same ones as on your iPhone (I use them there) you may be lucky and find them there...? You know how everything automagically syncs on the Mac...

Also, there’s Evernote, which is what I use. Also accessible from all devices.

I think it's possible unless you pay or something. 15gb full hehe. Yeah it's the same as the iphone ones but I don't know how technology works, so they don't sync together and icloud is only backing up the phone notes even though I use the same apple id for computer and phone.

Really they should train people before letting them buy and try to operate expensive devices hahaha.

For me, I use Ubuntu as my operating system on my computer and I copy files to thumb drives and hard drives.

I back up all my files except for the notes...I have NO idea how to back up the notes on a macbook. Literally stumped.

Should probably not use notes, that's my moral!

I don't know what Ubuntu is either haha I'm such a technology newb. But I know other things, so oh well!

How to copy and paste in Mac:

it happens that the inspiration is not the same as the first time, but I do not think it will happen again since you now keep the scriptures, well for that!

yeah, that's it! Because the inspiration isn't there anymore! You nailed it! Thanks for helping me put it into words!

That's it! Because the inspiration is gone. Thanks for helping me put it into words!

Me too. When I try to fix them I tend to make it worse. I feel like I'm waiting in the ER room to see if they'll recover or not haha

I have lost a lot of stuff on computers the past 20 years and it can be very frustrating for sure. Sometimes, I feel like there is no moral to a situation. Sometimes, I wonder if I could learn from a certain situation or not.

Yeah! I guess not to use the notes on my computer anymore since I don't know how to back them up!

I manually backup by copying & pasting folders into thumb drives, hard drives, once a year, once a month, or whenever. I have a 128 GB pen drive. I have a 4 TB hard drive. These drives are external. I unplug them. So, they're not always on the Internet. They're not always connected to my laptop. We all want things to work automatically. We want things to be synchronized, AKA backed up via some super duper program thing that may even cost money. If you can find programs, hardware, things, that you trust, that can do it, then good luck.

In the future, I may try automatic systems for backing up data if I can trust them. It depends. But for now, I do things the old fashion way, ctrl+c, ctrl+v, as in copy and paste.
