RE: Pineapple Vlog #3: Communities, City vs. Country, and pay-what-you-want

in #life5 years ago

You lift me up whenever I read your stuff! Facial expressions or not.

Country/city is such a tricky thing. We love being in the country as it suits our introverted side and love of nature, but it does isolate us, and we sometimes just need city energy to revive. I like the idea of being in two places, best of both worlds, but you're right as you don't get the consistency you need for the community building, whether you are city or country.

I find it so hard to attach value to what I do. I've done some websites for crew and have really loved it because it's a creative process, so I feel bad for coming up with a price. It's always under what I probably should be paid, but what is 'should', right? And if I said 'pay what you want' maybe they'll pay me less than the energy I put out. I guess you have to trust people and that's pretty much hard in a world where resources are, as you say, unevenly distributed. As I was writing this you said 'trust each other more' so that's the crux of it, huh? I've always found that when people do trust each other, some pretty cool stuff happens. I'm more for trusting people than not, despite being chastised for that.

Keep up your world shaking. x

I’m trying to get to a place where I don’t mind if they pay less, and I’ll spend a lot of time spreading the attitude of give more to independent and local along with doing pay what you want. We need to build a culture around it if we want it to work at all.

There is still a lot of guilt and feeling that we are supposed to WORK, and work hard. I basically don’t mind receiving a whole lot of money for what I do, I wouldn’t feel bad receiving a whole lot for doing nothing, I’d just make sure I used it in a way that was benefiting others. I feel we are ALL worth more than we get, and if others don’t want to accept that about themselves, it’s not my job to follow them. In the long run though, I’d like for money to flow into a pay-what-you-want community from people who have a lot of money or from people who would have spent that money at chain stores, so education is important, but first I suppose we need to talk about it more with people who are similar to us and get the wheels turning.

Fuck I love your brain.
