Steem Meetup, free lunches and traffic
Well, I just met me first real life Steemian (who I didn't onboard myself) and bought him lunch. And man, can this kid eat! He needs the calories though because he is riding around Finland on his bike, camping along the way. Yep, @momone and I met @celestal for a bite to eat together and a chat.
He is also making his #roadtosteemfest so it was great to get to know him a little beforehand. For me, it further cemented my position on why I want to get to Steemfest because I believe that getting to meet the people behind the blogs is a great way to develop stronger ties in the community.
@celestal is a really bright young man too which gives me some faith in the community. I have mentioned before how I find the potential differences between the online and real persona interesting and wonder how much people deviate from their real world identities.
The traffic situation is, we are still not home. In the picture above it says 'tunnel closed' which meant manoeuvring through a very crowded city filled with a few thousand extra cars and a lot of road works. We had a bit of a rush to leave from lunch so we could make it to the shops (wife is in there now) before our daughter gets home. A 20 minute drive turned into 2 hours.
Regardless, it was great to meet @celestal in person and I think it was good for my wife to see that there are real people behind the names. I think she was also happy to be reminded that there are still some young men in the world who can take care of themselves and are brave enough to do things a little differently.
We actually didn't talk too much Steem, most of it was about life, the future and opportunity. These of course do tie into Steem a lot though for those who are looking at it all with longer vision.

Yes it all goes back to community and making it real. There are some wonderful Souls on steemit for which I would like to meet as well. Relationships are priceless and they are what makes this platform. Thanks my friend for sharing your invaluable experience.
I had a chance to attend a recent Steem meetup near where I live and it was such a rewarding experience. To talk one-on-one with the people behind the blogs was fascinating to me and I made some serious bonds that will last a lifetime, I'm sure.
I found that the people I met with were just as you would expect them from their blogs. It is interesting to me how authentic and genuine people on Steemit are compared to other platforms and social media.

I think there is some confirmation bias with the meetups as, they are willing to meet :D
In Adelaide, @mattclarke organises a weekly meetup. Unfortunately at the moment, there aren't many Finns on Steem and those that are active are spread about the country so meetups are rare.
Not sure I could handle the excitement of weekly meets. I buy drinks too, so that might hit the bottom line a little.
That said, they're all lightweights so it hasn't been too expensive.

I can't get over the picture though, the fries (yours, I presume), 'cause you know you usually take a lunch pic at eye-level sort of, kinda looking down at the other's food and I keep imagining you crouching into the fries, trying to see the image :D

It should be a unique and interesting experience, @tarazkp! I have already met many people from steem personally and it is true: it is interesting to know the person behind the username. With some of them there is already so much bonding, as if we were lifelong friends. I think in the end we are one big fellowship, family. I hope this experience will be repeated and that you will especially meet the people you follow and otherwise admire. I imagine it will be like meeting your favorite writer! Greetings
It is definitely a new dimension to steem that will grow as more people come on board. I am looking forward to more meetups in the future .)
I am a little envious of you going to Steemfest as it will help you so much. To be able to put a face and get to know someone instead of a name is so beneficial.
Who knows how it will actually turn out but, I think that it will help me develop a better view of the steem environment overall too.
