Lemon as a Natural Medicine for Skin and Stomach

in #naturalmedicine5 years ago (edited)
Lemon is a gift from nature that is undeniably wonderful. It is a little yellow fruit full of vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus and citric acid. It is one fruit that is available all around the world in all seasons and is not only used for culinary purpose but also for cleaning purposes.

Here are the two ways in which Lemon has helped me avoid medicine and fancy creams

Lemon as a remedy for stomach issues

When I was in school, I used to study all the time. As a result, my body movement was very poor and stomach issues followed. My parents would give me medicines of all kinds but nothing seemed to work, I would make faces while taking those medicines to help my stomach. I have always hated medicines, I personally think they can make you more sick - medicines do help but they do some degree of damage as well, its like they fix one problem but they onset a new one without you knowing it. For something as basic as stomach issues, I surely did not need to consume those hard salts used in medicines. This is when my deep bond of friendship with lemon started.

I would drink one glass of lemonade every morning and would study with ease whole day. For 5 years, I drank Lemon with salt in water every morning. It helped my stomach and it also helped me maintain a certain body weight. I used to even take lemon, salt and a knife on my travels and would drink lemonade first thing in the morning no matter what. On travels, some people specially my age used to consider me weird, but I have always been ok with weird. :D

Now my body movement level has improved to an extent that I do not need to drink lemonade everyday but whenever some stomach issues arrives, lemonade works for me.

Lemon as a remedy for skin tan

India and its scorching heat is one reason for varied skin colors of Indians. Skin color is ok since it is our identification but tanning and sunburns are not good. People in India have varied degree of sensitivity towards sunlight depending on which state they live in.

Here in northern India, it stays so hot for 4 months - that you can get a sunburn standing 30 minutes when out of home. If not sunburn, tanning is unavoidable. I am a person who easily gets tanned and can cook up in 5 minutes of sunlight. After the cruel summers, comes rains and autumn, with changing seasons it becomes to important to get rid of the tan.

I am a kid of mother nature who do not like heavy creams and fancy products sitting on skin. That's where mother nature gives me lemon to fix my skin. I apply lemon once in two days directly on my skin and it removes tan. Simple as that.

Although applying lemon directly on skin can cause irritation for some people, in that case it is advised to mix a equal amount of rose water to dilute the acidic effect of citric acid present in lemon. When I started applying lemon on my skin 5 years back, it used to cause irritation and I used to mix rose water in it. But now, I apply lemon directly on my face preventing eye area as citric acid would obviously irritate your eyes since it is a acid. I also happy it on my hands and feet since they are exposed all time and get badly tanned.

Thanks to the God of Lemon, I hope you are reading this :) :P

These are my top two uses of Lemon

I don't have a lemon tree in my house and I am planning to have one since it can be grown in big pots as well, I will go for it.

I had a girlfriend once that put lemon in her blonde hair and it made her hair lighter. I thought it was really cool. It's odd to me that y'all don't like tan skin. Over here in the US, it's attractive.

I used to put lemon on my hair too to get that blond look - when i was a teenage surfer girl.

Yeah, the west loves tan whilst Asia avoids it. Humans are wierd.

Lemons are awesome!! I have a lemon tree in my backyard, in fact they are ubiquitous here!

yeah humans are indeed weird :D

Ooh a personal lemon tree! Awesome! Although there are quite a lot of them in Portugal too :>)

Oh lemon in hair sounds interesting, lemon does have a bleaching effect that works on removing tan and yeah making the hair light for your girl.

Reason is - You guys are so white and your skin is different in a way that days on sunlight would give 2\10 shadeof brown on your body.

We are already so brown and sunlight works up very fast on us, the same amount of sunlight would make our browny shade 8\10.

Do you mostly use Limes or Lemons in India? Here in Thailand lemons are hard to get and expensive - it doesn't get cold enough for them to grow well. Notice your lead pic is a lime. :) I THINK the healing properties are much the same, no? It's a question people often ask me here too. Nice post, my dear.

Oh lemon and limes are different, I just goggled, I never gave it a thought and used to think people just use two words for same thing. We actually use both according to season, like in winter - its lemon - big and yellow. In summers, they are greeny and small - limes.

I think healing properties are pretty much same, but the amount of juice varies and sourness in their taste.

They are expensive and hard to get in Thailand is weird to know, I thought they are easy to get thing everywhere in world.

As @riverflows mentioned, I never heard of getting rid of a tan, before this post. In fact, most Europeans - especially the Northern ones like me - love to get what we call a 'healthy' tan, risking skin cancer. You don't wanna know how many times I got sunburnt in my life.

Then, if we get that tan, we try to keep that 'colour' as long as we can. We feel like zombies without it.

I am more aware of the impact on all kind of stuff - the sun included - on my skin, body and mind these days and - to get back to your post - I love lemons. In fact, I drink water with lemon whenever I can. It's next to me, right now. I also like to add ginger to the mix.

P.S. What do you mean with lemonade? Do / did you add anything to the water, besides lemon? Sugar for instance?

Oh yes, Indians are always upto getting rid of tan, people even visit salon for it - Get some kind of anti-tan massages with anti-tan fancy creams. hehe. Its actually weird people in Europe and US are white and want to be littlish brown. People in Asia are brown but they want to look white, this is how majority is working all around.

Lemonade - water plus lemon plus sugar plus salt. And some ice. Its a very tangy flavored nice drink this way. :D :)

The grass is always greener on the other side. We always want to be like others and have what others have. It's so hard to accept that everything is perfect just the way it is :>)

Lemonade with salt. Interesting. I will give it a try, one day soon. I just don't have ice here.

Exactly, the grass rule makes sense for why west wants to be tanned and east wants to be untanned.

Yeah give it a shot.

I did, a couple of days ago, but I'm not sure if I added the salt. I also had no ice haha :>)

Yeah because the temperature around your place is ice itself :P

It is, if you compare it to the temperature in most parts of India, haha!
