Sunrise In The Himalayas

Stunning Sunrise From Nargacot, Nepal

This weekend we've been tackling the job of sorting out the files on an old computer, in order to get rid of it.

Sadly, it is so old that we have been unable to connect it to the internet and it's proving to be a very laborious task.

One positive side of it though, is I'm finding some of the photographs that were lost a few months ago, when my computer got wiped.

This particular one, for example, was all on it's own, outside the folder system so I think there is a very good chance that I don't have a copy of it anywhere else.

This one of this pretty sunrise was taken from from Nargacot. One of the few places on the rim of the Kathmandu valley where you can get a very distant view of Mount Everest.

And here's another one looking in a different direction and at a different time (?) or maybe even from a different place (?).

I know I took some photographs from my hotel balcony and some from a mountain top after a very early mini bus ride but, as usual, my photograph labeling leaves a lot to be desired! 😂

Thank you to @juliank and @photocontests for the daily photography contest.

So where exactly was this photo taken from? haha kidding!! My labeling equals yours @gillianpearce. Everything I look back on, I can kind of describe something about it :)

These are both beautiful by the way! How long ago were you in Nepal?

How long ago were you in Nepal?

I can't remember. 😂 😂 😂

But my son was little and he is 21 now. It was a very low point in my life before I went. I wrote about it somewhere but, true to form, I can't find the post.

I keep telling myself, one day I will get my posts organised, but I think that's probably a futile hope. Not enough hours in the day. 😊

hahaha @gillianpearce, I think you and I have had this "organize our posts" talk before :) I think it will remain just 'talk' at my end too 😅

I was going to say "maybe we should just face the reality and stop having the talk" @lynncoyle1 but it's one of those things where I'd like it to be done but can't be assed to actually do it.

So I'm holding on to my magical thinking that one day I will get my posts more organised. 😂

haha @gillianpearce, a girl can dream, right? 😅

Yep. A girl can always dream @lynncoyle1. 😁

Lovely photo, it's good that you were able to save this. It would be a shame to lose something like this!

Yes. It's difficult to know exactly what I have lost. Every now and again I remember a particular set of photographs that are pre Google and wonder if I have them anywhere.

That first shot has really nice color tones and atmosphere going on. i like the trees in the foregroudn, too.

Ugh about the computer! Thta's never fun. It takes so long to get it up and running again, too!

A windows 10 update required me to wipe and completely reinstall earlier this year but, fortunately, I was able to back up some important files first. Good thing I remembered how to use DOS...

A windows 10 update required me to wipe and completely reinstall earlier this year

That was probably the one that caused all the problems for me.

I couldn't do anything with my computer at all after the update. Couldn't do all the stuff I used to be able to do with previous versions of Windows so had to take it to a shop.

I thought they were going to be able be able to get into the back end and roll the version back or something.

Instead of that they reinstalled Windows, without asking me if that was OK, and wiped all my files. I could have done that myself! 😱

I tried a software restorer software but couldn't retrieve any photos undamaged. They'd all been written over. 😢

Oh no! Did you have Avast free antivirus installed? That's what got mine. There was some sort of problem with the free version and the update, caused a lot of problems for a lot of people. There was absolutely no way to recover it, either.

To save my files, though, I managed to boot the computer to DOS and manually copy files to a portable hard drive. I'm sure I missed a few things, but that's life :-P

I hoipe they didn't charge too much for a reinstall. It's a little time consuming, especially reinstalling all the software and getting updates, but, as you say, is something most of us can do on our own.

I do have AVAST installed and what you discovered is and did is what I was expecting the shop to do. That's what I was paying them for. Their expertise.

As I say, I could have done a reinstall myself and I would have waiting for my son to try something like boot to DOS. I wasn't able to get into the booting process at all. All the usual tricks didn't work.

Basically, I paid them £40 to wipe out hours and hours of work. I'd spent weekd sorting my photographs into folders, for example, so I knew which ones I'd posted to Steemit and which ones I hadn't. And I only had the edited version on my computer so I'm having to do all that work again.

You can be sure I will not be using that shop in the future. It upsets me all over again writing about it. 😢

Grrrrrrr!

Ouch! Well did luck with getting everything back to normal. I'd suggest using AVG free antivirus for awhile, since software companies don't seem to have fixed the problem.

I think I'd rather be working on my computer today... Day One of a week of meetings is going to be tough, especially after staying up late to watch meteors.

You are very lucky that you got to see the meteors @fotosdenada.

We had complete cloud cover here. &#128546

I'm confused now. I can't remember if I had AVAST or AVG. I've used both in the past.

When I went to check I realised that they wiped off my antivirus software too and I haven't gotten around to replacing it. Oops! 😂

Lovely shots, Gillian :) Mount Everest is spectacular!

How are you doing?

I'm well thank you @irreverent-dan although I could do with a bit of a change of scene.

Steemit wise I made it to 1000 Steem Power last week and to 60 reputation yesterday so that was pretty exciting.

I've also been buying Steem while the price is low.

I've been enjoying the fabulous summer we've had here with lots of time on the beach and a nice trip to Devon.

How have you been?

Are you planning on going to Steemfest?

You are one of the most hard-working Steemians :) Congratulations on reaching 1000SP and 60 rep! I am also considering to buy some Steem after I get my next salary.

I am good! I recently came back from a trip to Poland, and it would be awesome go to back there for the next Steemfest. Are you going?

Are you going?

I'm thinking about it @irreverent-dan.

I'd have preferred it if it was somewhere I hadn't visited previously, plus I'm waiting to hear how much it will cost, but mostly it feels quite a challenge having not been before and not knowing anyone very well.

But if I let the latter stop me I wouldn't go anywhere much. 😂
