Colourful language

in #photography5 years ago

While I love the moodiness winter can bring, it does get a bit dull walking around in what is essentially a sea of whites, greys and washed out blues. The other issue is that unless lucky, one might miss daylight completely and all that is seen is darkness and the street lights reflecting off the snow.

Yesterday I got to work before light and left well after dark. This doesn't necessarily require a long day (although it was one) as for example, tomorrow the sun will rise at 9.38am and set at 3.23pm and, the days have been getting longer.

The longest period I have gone without seeing the sun at all was over two weeks long where I was stuck inside an office during the weekdays and probably sleeping after a night out during the weekends. Yes, once upon a time I was not old, sick and tired and would go out partying with friends. I barely remember those nights, at least - that is all I will say on the chain about them ;)

Before I go to bed I thought I would add some color into the night and grabbed some images that make me happy. My favorite of the group is the one of my then pregnant wife looking serene - if she knew the turmoil that was to follow a month or two forward and carry on until this day, almost 3 years later - I don't think she would have been as calm.

No matter how positive the words we use might be, life won't often go as expected and rarely will it be all sunshine and flowers. Sometimes, the language we need to deal with and explain our lives will be much less flowery and much more colorful and expletive-laden, that is okay too. I generally keep mine off the chain, but frustration gets to us all at some points in life I just think it doesn't have to consume us completely, snap us, turn us into what we don't want to become.

Looking at some color and beauty whilst in the grey isn't about avoiding reality, it is a reminder that after every winter, spring comes with flowers, new life and a flood of opportunity to take advantage of if one is ready. Right ow there are a lot of people in this world that are getting crushed in various ways for various reasons but, there is no need for them to lose ourselves, to crack under the pressure.

The funny thing is that when Spring does finally come and the warmth of the sun can be felt, winter fades very quickly into distant memory, stresses forgotten like they never existed. Just imagine for example if tomorrow you woke up and Steem was 20 dollars, what would change, would you be as anxious about the future, would you breathe a little easier?

Winter isn't going to end tomorrow, but one day spring will arrive.

Sort:

Very nice, colorful images. The two bee macros are my favorites of the bunch, though. The color and clarity there is very crisp and vibrant.

I used to like portraiture more, but working for a terribly run studio photography company for a couple years sort of ruined it for me.

I like those ones too :)

I used to like portraiture more,

I am just starting to try.

It is great to see some colour now. It is mainly grey and dark over here too. Well now it is white. The snow is back. Always better as rain.

I much prefer snow to slush. It'll start getting cold here soon, -13 is pretty warm still :D

I cannot stand the cold although our house is about 7 degrees at the moment. I hope no cold winter of -20 again. Two of my water pump gets frozen last time and got broke, so we're a part of my pipes plus it is harder for my dogs outside. The only good thing about snow is it feels less gold.

Love the been on the sunflower photograph, superb and the one on the purple flower, colours are magnificent. Steemit is bursting with colourful posts, just love the photography 🙏

Thanks :)

If Steem would reach $20 overnight, my upvote worth would be something like $60. I would make a lot of people happy with this, I think.

Pretty incredible to think about I think considering that you would still be distributing the same amount of steem from the pool. The pool would be worth ~17 million instead of the 300k it is now. =)

I'm addicted to light, so can fully understand what you mean. Darkness and lack of colours can be depressing, I feel that too sometimes, lucky me, this year is not so bad yet. Let's hope spring is just around the corner (who am I kidding 🙂).
Till then, we have our photos. Nice photographs by the way!

The other thing I find strange here is how dull people dress in the winter, you'd think they would be wearing tropical colours :D

You might find it strange but I've heard a psychologist once saying we tend to choose dark clothes for winter, which is depressing, we should wear cheerful colours. Long winters with less daylight can be depressing and you know this better than I do, soooo these people might have a point 🙂

Yes, I think cheerful colours too, but in Finland it is all grey, black and dark blue.

So true that we often forget of the better days ahead and also seem to mostly remember the negative experiences of the past. Technology is a great use to recall the things that make us smile from the past as well as how much better we truly are but don’t appreciate it.
