I Couldn't Resist Clicking On An ICO-related AD That Had The Word "Steem" In It!

in #steem6 years ago
Today, i was looking at coinmarketcap earlier today, to see how prices are doing and i saw this AD:

Well, not the exact screenshot above, as i forgot to save the screenshot of the AD after i saw it. Upon doing this post, i had tried to evoke the AD back up (so i could get a screenshot of it) without success.
Basically, i tried a little fun with our dear conventional internet (by spending minutes surfing things related to "steemgo"), knowing how they are fond of using our browser cookies to serve us non-stop AD(s), with hopes that i can make the AD appear again, for me to use in this post but it wouldn't show up.
Eventually, i found a screenshot of this particular AD here and grabbed it for use above!

I Couldn't Resist Clicking On This AD

We all know how conventional internet takes information from your browser cookies and tend to send you tons of ADs non-stop and since joining steemit, most of the ADs i am served are related to ICOs.

I say conventional internet because practically every web-space i am on, has these AD(s), even down to my Yahoo mails, Facebook etc. Youtube videos are filled with tons of them too!

I am not much of a trader and i know how AD(s) work, so i hardly click on most of these ADs but this particular AD caught me and especially my interest!

This AD strategically possessed the word "steem"

Yes, when you eventually visit their site, it says steemgo, but the AD itself, has the word "steem", prominent holding its own and very obviously too.

I don't know if it is a technical stunt but it worked.

Looks like whoever is behind this ICO-endeavor knows of steem/steemit. I am not quick to arrive to conclusions or decipher motives when it comes to others but this particular AD appears crafted, to appeal as well or especially to steemians or people who know or have heard of "steem". (Can all be coincidence too)

I rarely click on ADs but i clicked on this one.

More recently, there have been many steemians turning attention to the trading aspects of the crypto-world (steemit being the gateway to the world of digital currencies) and even ICO-investments and an enthusiastic steemian, is very likely to look at this AD at the very least.

Some steemians may become inclined (upon seeing this AD) into finding out if the creator of the steem Go is a steemian, in deciding whether to picked interest or not. (Steemians being reputable great minds!)

I am good with the internet and especially "the internet, in the eyes of a developing country internet user" and i have spent up to two decades ransacking it. Thus, normally i can instantly spot which web interface may have something to offer and which may pose harm, upon perching upon it.

As for ICOs, i haven't picked full interest in them.

I don't trade much but i know i will someday. Overall, i don't exactly like the hassle of moving coins/tokens and perhaps the insecurity involved.

Assuming SBD was pegged, i very much think i would stick to the internal market alone, trading the SBD/Steem pair.

I feel more at home there.

My mindset towards money overall, has adjusted since steemit and steem. I look at the tokens as of more value than at the value of the tokens, every-time. So a ton of times, all the trading opportunities pass me by and i don't hurt much.

In general, ingrained in my mind is: "i do not pursue money, for money has got to look for me"!

And now with blockchain technology and in this case the steem blockchain, the above words are weightier.

Blockchain technology is new and when talking of the steem blockchain, capability-wise; it is in its own league, so blockchain to me is practically around 2 years old. And with 2018 and steem's ability to run ICO-like endeavors with Smart Media Tokens, i will pick interest in steem-based ICO(s) or ICO(s) in general, more fully then.

Overall, even if ICO(s) pop up from every corner proposing different use-cases or solving real world problems, i am keener on the type of blockchain it is built on, to project its ability for sustainability. I do feel that eventually, ever app or real-world application will find itself on the steem blockchain to fully serve the needs of the world, thus, "steem" is blockchain!

What i am trying to say is; this particular AD caught me.
Inspite of my general lack of interest in ICO(s) and AD(s), the word "steem" in this particular AD drew me in still and it can draw you in too; which is not in itself bad; but be wary and keep your decision-making intact and still subject to personal research.

So since i am not especially good yet or very interested in determining what ICO is legitimate or not, i decided to take a look at steemGO as a regular internet user (crypto-novice), assessing it and perhaps its authenticity and pedigree, solely from the look-and-feel of its website and my intuition and experience from my existence and use of the internet.

Too, i was especially interested in getting to find out, if it had any relationship with steem/steemit or the steem blockchain!

I wasn't really going to get into deep details e.g its whitepaper etc

Here is how it went

First upon getting on the site, was when i paid attention to its logo!

Hahaha, it was on their website that i paid more notice to their logo to spot that it was different from our "steem" logo! (On the AD, the word "steem" was the most striking! "No conclusions" but based on my intuition and perhaps, my experience, that looks intended!)

The general vibe from the website didn't tell me of an established enterprise or one with major pedigree. It was obviously new and some of the tabs led no-where.

I was keen on seeing who the creators may be. I would have love to know, if they may be steemians, which would have been awesome but i couldn't find much information overall.

At the bottom of the page, you would find a "contacts" segment, leading to their social media outlets e.g Facebook, Twitter, Github etc

The Github tab led no-where!

Their Facebook page's also pretty new, with limited information or resources. It mostly had a short "about" message; one or two post updates; and 1 comment.

Then their twitter page took me aback just a bit because i noticed instantly that it had amassed around 22.4k followers. (made me think, they may be established afterall)

However, i saw that it had only 3 tweets altogether and it was a pretty new twitter account, with almost no activity or interaction.

Followers can have come from ADs or a social influencer or who knows. "No conclusions"; i am just playing and having fun, while putting you into thoughts, "your own thoughts"!

I didn't go into much research after this, to have a glimpse into how their ICO is posed to work. Based on their website's roadmap, their ICO is suppose to have started on Dec 12, 2017 and i didn't see any evidence of how that's taking place.

There is a sign up page though, that requires an email and also some evidence that they accept either ethereum or bitcoin, but i didn't proceed further to find out further.

It is obvious that my major attraction to this AD and website was the word "steem" and my particular interest was in, whether this was a project in affiliation with our "steem". See these underlined words on the left-side of their twitter page:

Hahaha, there is mention of speed and capacity of thousands of transactions per second!

Overall, there is no real concept of what steemGO entails except mention of a lending service that returns monthly interest, so i could not have bothered signing up to find out more. If this was an ICO, at this point, i would not have considered even an investment possibility based on my assessment of their website alone and amount of resource or information about them on the entire web.

Hyperstat had very limited information as well about their domain name, further establishing steemGO as freshman.

I do think ICO enterprises worthy of even an understudy, should have put some undisputeable commitment to developing their websites, at the very least. There should be some evidence of pedigree, courtesy of their homepage alone.

SteemGo didn't have any staff either e.g CEO, developers etc. It mostly looked like a one-page html website, under development.
I didn't draw any conclusion as to their legitimacy as i didn't sign up with them to see what happens next etc

Steemit is indeed the gateway to the world of digital currency and plays this role more than any social platform that has existed.

The model of steemit/steem incites you to mine with your mind, thus, seamlessly stirring you to peer into newer fields of studies; so don't be shocked if you soon find yourself, reading whitepapers, learning about blockchain or picking interest in ICO(s).

On the other hand though, steem also has a behavior/reputation model that helps exert our sense of judgement and eventual decision-making. I feel these aspects of steem/steemit are most beautiful and even obliviously, by means of steemit, we grow and evolve the substance and calibre of our person, each day.

In deciding upon ICO investments, we just might have additional tools in the form of "steemit posts" (reviews from reputable great minds), that we can use as an additional resource in our decision-making. We are easily get to a stage where there is likely to be a "steemit post" out here/there, touching questions related to every niche and even moreso, the niche of cryptocurrency! So the next time you are considering an ICO investment, consider reading also, what steemians have had to say about it!

Simply add the word "steemit" as prefix or suffix to your search query in the search engines.
