Panel Discussion Promotes Steemit at Libertopia 2018

in #steemit6 years ago

"Liberty is not collective, it is personal. All liberty is individual liberty."
- Calvin Coolidge -

Last weekend, I had the privilege of attending Libertopia 2018.

This is the fourth or fifth Libertopia conference that I've been to. Once again, I was one of the invited speakers. I'll tell you more about my talk in an upcoming article.

Today, however, I want to tell you that I was delightfully surprised last Friday to hear what a panel of other speakers on the main stage at the Humphreys concert venue were discussing.

Humphreys by the Bay is where Libertopia was held this year. I had finished my talk entitled "Grow Your Agorist Industry by Rapid 3D Cloning", and as I walked out onto the beautiful forum area, I heard amplified voices talking about our beloved Steemit!

Though you may have missed the conference, you'll be able to find items of interest, locate websites, and learn from many of those who spoke this year.

I found a seat in the shade, and began to listen.

Seated before me on the stage were five fellow Steemians.

Among the five of them,

they did a very creditable job of providing the Libertopia audience with an overview of Steemit and the STEEM blockchain. Each described briefly what their own blogs deal with, and a few of them went into greater detail about how to become and advance as a Steemian.

As the name implies, Libertopia is a gathering of liberty minded people, and so the panel was speaking to a largely receptive audience.

Toward the end of the discussion,

the panel offered an open mic for questions and comments. I stepped up to the mic to share a bit of my personal Steemit experience, both good and otherwise. I pointed out the archival quality of the blockchain, and that one of my hopes in writing for Steemit is that my children and grandchildren may one day be able to access the thoughts of this old codger of a predecessor.

I was glad to be a part of the return of Libertopia,

and I hope that by writing a few articles about it, Libertopia will end up on your radar and that you'll plan to attend in the years to come.

~FIN~

P.S. If you have an "in" with anybody at Steemit, Inc. - Would you please ask them to get rid of these damn, extremely annoying "off-website" arrow/boxes? The have, overnight, made Steemit ugly. There are much better solutions.

nooooooooooooo way!!!!!!!!!! LOLOL that is awesome!!!! Steemit AND Humphrey's by the bay????? Sweet topic at a sweet location!!!!

i'm glad you got to speak during the Q&A too... i'm sure you added a new perspective to the mix.
you gotta go again next year and ask to be put on the steemit panel! hahahaha

I dunno about that... we minnows get swamped by whales... ;)

anarchism is the natural outgrowth of individualism

Possibly, John, but that is most assuredly not the only path to the philosophical conclusion of anarchism.

There is definitely a theological path, strongly supported by scripture. That is the path that I have followed.

ha ha, I would think based on the early church that Christianity lends itself more to Communism - indeed, that is the basis of most religious orders in liturgical churches

I have to disagree with you here, John... the resemblance is only superficial.

The key, core difference is that between top-down, forceful imposition of a system for distribution of wealth, and bottom-up, voluntary implementation of such distribution.

When it comes to the early church and true Christianity, communal sharing is entirely voluntary. It is never imposed forcibly by a central authority, as is sadly true in Communist nations and (at least as I understand it) communist philosophy.

Well I know its seems like I am a negative Nancy all the time anymore, but I am just being honest. SteemInc could and should make the front end so much better where we could see/find/interact with out past content. I mean this is of course way down on the wish of needs and wants for improvement. I just I as an "investor" have become a bit jaded. I love Steemit, but it is frustrating because it should be so much more.

I could not agree more, Old Guy... ;)

I write about those things a lot, and will be writing about them again as I tell more about Libertopia...

And of course, you know about my Library, right? My personal effort to make my work more accessible to my readers... :D

😄😇😄

@creatr

I hadn't really given a thought to my kids being able to access this stuff but its a great thing really. I had to google agorism as I had no idea what that was - I think i need it explained more if you can be bothered lol - I love that you're a saint :D

Hi, Andy!

I happen to be a saint 😇only and entirely through the kindness of Jesus, who I believe is the Creator of the universe, which of course includes all of us.

No credit to me... ;) I write about this a lot...

If you peruse my Library, check out the Christianity Shelf (where you can read about my faith) and the Liberty Shelf (where you can find a whole section devoted to agorism!)...

And, of course, the Steemit Shelf has some of my thoughts about the library and how I hope it will become an archive for my descendants to read. ;)

And I would of course be happy to explain more about agorism and/or answer any questions you may have. It is essentially based on the concept that we own ourselves, and consequently the state does not have a legitimate claim to the fruit of our labor... I'll for sure write more about it from time to time!

Thanks a lot for coming by and commenting! :D

I will be sure to check out your library for more information :) I love that you are so organized lol and everything is in your library :)

Hi @creatr! You have received 0.1 SBD tip from @dswigle!

I will check out their website. Thank you!

I like the thought of my ancestors being able to access my thoughts and life through the blockchain.

I agree with the arrows and still searching for someone who actually cares.

Tip!

You're welcome. Lotsa great people among the speakers!

The only catch, re: our ancestors: Steemit has to succeed in the long run. :D

Thanks for caring about the ugly arrows! :O And for your visit! ;)

Hi @creatr. I would love to hear your speech. Was it taped? It sounds like an interesting platform and an enriching time for all. In the last week I have had a dear friend and cousin, David pass on from this world. Life goes on. Blessings and best.

Hi, Troy.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss...

I did a recording, but have misplaced or lost one of the recording devices... I need to contact the show people to see if it may have been found and turned in?

Sorry I missed it.

Keep Libertopia in mind for next year...

Meanwhile, if you visit the Libertopia website, you'll find lots of cool info... ;)

I find this very interesting, congratulations for such an excellent presentation
