The Ugly Truth

in #steemit5 years ago (edited)

Steemit is a very interesting place if you know your way around it. It's attractive because you get to meet people with similar mindset and not only, you can read interesting blogs and offers you the possibility to earn Steem, who wouldn't like that?

Unfortunately things are not so simple. Registration is simple, you get a 15 SP credit from Steemit, you do your first post and then what? You wait for users to upvote your post, which it might happen or not. Then what?

Steem, SBD, estimated account value, voting power, mana, resource credit, curation reward, power up, power down, witness voting, master key, posting key, active key ... should I continue? A new user is lost here without help, not to mention if English is not his/her strong suit.

I remember when I registered in January 2018, all I did for a week was read, read, read and learn. I was lucky because wasn't alone here, had my friends from another platform that went dark over night, so in an hour I had like 30 followers with considerable reputation. They've helped me learn and grow because they knew who I was.

It's been five days since I started working on the Let's Make 250 Minnow A Month project, have checked over 150 accounts, potential candidates, made contact with many of them and have learned that help and education is needed for many of them if we want them to grow. There were users who had no idea how to power up or what the advantages of powering up are and this is just one example. Others have no idea which key to use when and so on.

Many are holding considerable amount of Steem and SBD, enough to double their existing SP, which or course would double their voting power automatically and we know what that means.

Yesterday @brittandjosie pointed out in her blog the other day the importance of voting for witnesses, which is another important matter.

What I'm trying to say here is we need to offer help to these new users, get them support and help them to grow. If we want a strong and healthy community, we need to do something about it. Being alone in this crowd makes your job a lot more harder.

If you're reading my blog and want to help, just look around and offer your help to those who need help. Flagging, downvoting and banning users is easy but won't help.

The more they grow, the more we grow, it is that simple.

Thank you @pixresteemer!

you are right but if you stay longer in steemit you will understand how should be done. Imagine I'm here for 10 months but my sp still below 100. lol
But if you love writing and meeting new friends it's fine. Just don't you can earn if you don't invest. That will be my advice for the new comers. Forget the money and enjoy staying here.

Agree to disagree, I've been here for 13 month and have never invested fiat, what you see in my wallet is earned here with hard work. You can earn if you don't invest, you just have to know how. You can't enjoy the platform if you don't have the freedom to post and comment because you don't have enough RC.

yes, sorry I forgot the word hardwork there, my bad.. Yes you can through hardwork, engaging others content and make a beautiful content.

Thanks @checky, noted and corrected.

Great points. It is a totally new paradigm for social media and people need to be grooved into using it.

They will understand the importance of it eventually. They still need to learn to see the difference between posting crap on social media websites (let me not mention them) and creating value on the blockchain.

Great feedback I agree

Thank you! 🙂

What I want to say here is that we need to offer help to these new users, get support and help them grow. If we want a strong and healthy community, we need to do something about it. Alone in this crowd makes your work much more difficult.

I agree with you @erikah
And for me personally, the system has brought us to share history, culture, traditions and different environments. steemit has been global in our minds to share. We each have different friends and family to know and share experiences. Different from different traditions. always looking from eye to eye. About what we don't see for an opportunity. I am also grateful for what has been built in Steemit for all of us. The opportunity to share what we love and learn new things and find interesting people. I want to help many people with my abilities, that is the dream I want to realize.
Thanks for this @erikah

Wise words my friend and I'm glad you find my writing helpful.
I see you're not yet a minnow but you can be easily if you power up. I'm working on a project called Let's Make 250 Minnow in a Month, maybe you've seen me posting about it.
If you were referring to people on Steemit when you said you want to help many people, you can do it better if you power up your Steem and SBD.
@paulag has posted about 11 Reasons to Power UP STEEM and SBD, it's a very good writing, please read it.

Yes, I really want to be a small fish and help many people, besides I do power ups, I also want to join there. But my SBD and STEEM are very minimal. I will try to collect it. Thank you @erikah , I will try to follow your advice

I wouldn't call that minimal at all, as you have 428 SP + 50 Steem + 163 SBD. In case you'd power up all you have, you'd have roughly 800 SP. This would almost double your voting power.
Your voting power at the moment is calculated based on your SP, which is 428, because the other funds (Steem and SBD) are liquid, not utilized.

Yes ... I am collecting STEEM to do Power up, what is the amount of STEEM to be small fish ?, I really need SBD, because I want to withdraw SBD for a very important need for my child. But ... I will keep trying as much as possible
Thanks My Friend
Forgive me for telling me about my economic life

No problem, we all have difficulties in life, unfortunately, no worries. A minnow is a user who holds 500 SP.

I am consistent in life to make my family happy, and the closest person to others. So I always post about life to share policies. Honestly I am very happy to hear that, because my SP is almost close to 500, and maybe in the near future I will power up again.

Many thanks for the support.

I remember the time when you helped me😊 Now i am trying to do the same.
I am looking for people to onboard and also teaching them on a messanger group. Also i delegated for 2 of them 15-15Sp to start they journey. But until steem if full of bots until this will be a hard work. everyone is delegating to bots and thats why nobody cant get a vote. I tell you frankly until now maybe 4-5 people are reading what i use to post. Than i get a few votes from new accounts. But actually now i also started to invest to earn some new SMT. But still looking for a solution how we can grow and make steem popular. Will ve easier if the people start to read some posts and use they SP for them instead of bots.

Yeah, I have the habit of helping people. I know not many people are reading posts these days and not many are posting. Let's see if this is going to change once the price goes up. Although i don't think so, as now there are way less posts then were when the price was up.
Onboarding new people is always a good idea if you get the right ones who are willing to learn. This is not easy, you need to learn a lot in order to do it right and those who are used to post crap on different social media sites for a few likes are not going to be happy here.
Anyway, times change and so are people. let's hope they are going to join and learn.
