Downvote Abuse.. the biggest problem on Steem... if you been downvoted read!
Background first:
I have been running the SteemDecathlon for over 2 years with 50,000 entries by thousands of users.
My best contest Memeday which allows people to create Unique content and contributes to the steem eco-system.
It is also been great to onboard many users (over 40 joined the blockchain through the Steeminati).
We have charity efforts on and off the blockchain.
We used bots that contributed to charities to promote our work in @bdvoter (bangladesh voter), @TreePlanter, @minnowbooster for example.
So to promote the contest and others I pay for bots to upvote it to be seen.
Now before we continue, I want to point out that I upvote to promote. And in capitalism (which this is) this is perfectly reasonable.
To also promote my contests I have also given away SBI's, Steem Monster Cards, Steem, Votes and generated Art and banners for many people and bloggers on the block chain my group likes. In addition we upvote others who are worthy.
Here are samples I and my Team have done:
I spent alot of time putting together that and other art (i'm sure much more time then most bloggers on the blockchain)
And if I have someone who is posting inappropriate Content on my blogs, I used my voting power to downvote... NOT FREE DOWNVOTES FROM THE BLOCKCHAIN....And I let them know with a response so they could correct their actions, with the following piece of art:

Now there are trolls on the blockchain down voting unique content small rewards, because those content creators use there own money to pay for promotion. I have no problem down voting for content you read and dislike. But straight down voting because someone else pays for a service, without reading the content and not informing them is absolute garbage.
The worst thing is now they are creating a curation trail for auto down voting authors with out looking at content. So now other trolls see a big down vote and follow suit. Like a bunch of hyenas...
THAT'S A WORSE PROBLEM, Curation trails are worse then anything else on the blockchain.... essentially people now will join in on the most upvoted authors so they can get curation credits......They don't really care what the author is saying only that they are getting lots of upvotes. So in reality they are abusing the system as well!
Curation trails does not reward funny, original, thought provoking, content by unknown authors... it just gets more money to whales who post the same content again and again on a few subjects without doing much effort!
Case in point:
To tell the truth one really shouldn't give a hoot about posts on the inner workings of the steem. But unlike on other social media platforms where social media hot topics actually get the most views and upvotes. People downvote original funny content like memes, jokes, politics, movies (because they promote it) and upvote garbage about the inner workings of steemit's business. On YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and other platforms political commentary, funny cat videos and other innocuous stuff goes viral and gets people looking and watching. HERE THEY KILL IT!
In addition it means that anyone who is not already a whale or willing to sink a lot of money into the block chain is getting stomped on.....
In the last week THESE TROLLS HAVE DOWNVOTED MEMEDAY a contest I been running for over a year and a half.
Why cause I paid 1 sbd to bangladesh voter.... They took away my visibility with free down votes.... that is just plain wrong....

SteemIt is not rolling back these disgusting changes from hf21 which is giving free down votes. So we need to fight back against them ourselves.

I don’t agree with people being downvoted just for promoting their content with bots. The content needs to be evaluated, downvoting due to a $1 upvote is ridiculous. I am all in favour of promoted posts being downvoted to the ground if content is clearly used for rewards farming. If @minnowbooster customers are victimised for using our service, I am happy to get involved. We have taken steps to make minnowbooster socially responsible and we return 5% to burn and 5% to the steem.dao, furthermore there is a 5% burn on delegator withdrawls, these steps taken should be sufficient enough to stave off downvotes, anyone downvoting a good post using our service is just being plain radical. However if a post is promoted with multiple bots in addition to MB that are not socially responsible I won’t be in a position to get involved.

This is a social media network.
2 months ago I started my yearly NFL contests. In previous years I had least 100 participants each week in the contests. This was as easy indicator of health of a social network. I had less than 20 entries over 6 weeks this year and I even promoted the contests up to try and get participants.
All this garbage has driven users off the blockchain. And it is alienating more.

my sister she is 16 wrote a post on how USA and other countries taking steps to clean space junk.
that wonderfull report made her a state champion and these fuckin' mornons just downvoted her beautiful report and she left the blockchain after her first post....
But still we can do nothing...

We need to get all the people who have been downvoted by these guys and work as group against them....
There are way more of us then them. The just focus attack people for a week or two
and then drive them off. And then they move to the next set of victims.
That means over the course of the last year alone 50 times the amount of people they attack in a week. Could easily get others to go back at them.'
By removing witness votes and all using our downvotes on the biggest whales payouts.
I will be putting together a curation software to take out first the small guys that support them then the big guys.
The Blacklist has over 100,000 names on it. Including whales....
If we even get a small percentage of them to help out we can stop this.
My community "the Steeminati" has 192,000 (sp and delegations), and we will be adding more. 2000 people with avg of 200 sp work together. There will be no more of this garbage.

I think the problem is that buying upvotes is seen as a poor way to promote. Buying votes detracts from the way steem is supposed to work. The number one reason for downvoting a post is disagreement with reward. It's pretty easy to disagree with rewards when you are buying them. Is this post worth $15 or should some be returned to the reward pool for other creators? That's the real question everyone should ask when they are debating whether or not they should press that downvote button.
You may see buying votes as "promotion" but others see it as you and the bots raping the rewards pool. A downvote isn't an "attack", it's a vote on how rewards should be distributed, just as an upvote is.

I have seen many users using it incorrectly. In my opinion it should not be free at all. Many people abuse it for personal revenge. They're not scrutinizing.The authorities are not taking any action when reporting downvote abuser names.I absolutely dislike this free system.

richatvns? In the past two years that I've been a member of Steemit, I've never downvoted anyone. I may express disagreement or disapproval of something that someone may have posted. However, before I would ever downvote anyone on Steemit, it would have to be an aggravated case in which that person was abusing the platform somehow.
