Sheila sees a group of townspeople watching her frailly standing on the edge of a cliff, preparing to end her life. The sea mist is frigid this day taking her breath away; a storm nears the coast of Maine. The year is 1612 and women like Sheila know there are lines you cannot cross in society. She is the type of woman to do what she feels is right; for her, there are no lines.

Sheila straightens her white dress while stepping forward to jump; tears streak her lonely face. Life can never be worth living without Jack. She is thinking of Jack, remembering the last moments of his touch, feeling life is over before plunging onto the rocky shore below.

She sees a glint of light in the sky; an object moves from the distant horizon, her feet become unsteady as the rumbling of the earth is beneath her body.

The silver object draws nearer, a sonic sound follows the movement; rocks tumble down nearby. With amazement Sheila steps back, and falls onto firm ground now under her feet.

At first she is terrified and then realizes, there are times in life when the universe signals us; this is one of those times as Sheila sees the townspeople observing in amazement, then the object settles below the water line; leaving no clue of ever existing.

This is quite possibly a sign from the powers above. She looks at the Bishop remaining unmoved holding his Bible even tighter in his own righteous way.

Sheila sees a small boat approaching the sandy shore; watching as the crowd dispenses to go to the boat. There are much needed supplies before winter sets in.

The Bishop motions for Sheila to be taken away; comparing her sins as if his sins were nothing. Did he know in a few years he would hang until death for being a colony traitor? Sheila thinks not as she looks at him.

The guards grow nearer and wait to take her away.

Sheila turns and sees Jack approaching. She can’t imagine what brought him to find her; she was sure to never see his face again.

Everything has changed for her within the last ten minutes. Life seems to once again hold meaning seeing Jack, and she can’t forget the object and how it made the rocks fall before going beneath the ocean water.

The signs are here from Heaven and she feels it.

She knows on the supply boat is a young man named John, big in stature but shy by personality. He is here to see the Bishop about rumors surrounding supplies missing. Sheila knows the Bishop is guilty.

Now she can relax and feels warmth coming back into her cold body, a hidden strength emerges.

She imagines leaving with Jack on the ship out to sea, and once again hearing the sonic sound, as a rushing of water creates a large wave, and the silver ship appears from below. Leaving the same way it arrived.

Sheila looks down again at the jagged rocks wondering if she will feel a piercing of her skin, or if blood will ruin her white dress. The townspeople continue to watch as she prepares to end her life.

The sea mist is frigid this day taking her breath away; a storm nears the coast of Maine. The year is 1612 and women like Sheila know there are lines you cannot cross in society. She is the type of woman to do what she feels is right; for her, there are no lines.

The glint of something silver reflects back on her and the crowd. For a moment she believes it to be something falling from the sky, and all at once the crowd gasps as the object moves closer hovering in front. People drop to their knees and begin to pray. For a moment Sheila thinks perhaps she has passed over and this is the afterlife.

Her feet become unsteady as the rumbling of the earth is beneath her body. A strong vibration follows the sound and people move back in astonishment in response to the silver object in the sky. With amazement, Sheila steps back and falls onto firm ground now under her feet.

Our assignment from @michelle.gent

Your POV character walks to the edge of a cliff and gazes outward. Who they are, what they see, feel, taste, smell, hear, or feel is your assignment in no more than 500 words

Thanks for the assignment. Here are 500 words.

Love the story. I would love to hear more about the characters. Does the bishop get his comeuppance? Does Sheila go with Jack or does she go for John?

Not sure ... I really don't know anything until it pops into my head.
This was a lot of work for me because of the assignment's POV
@michelle.gent is a great teacher.

She is an excellent teacher and editor. I am learning much from her.

Our family gets most affected by these stupid acts, better to change the channel rather than switching off the tv.

Okay now explain what you said because I got rid of the tv.
I am interested in your comment.

LOL... inspiring right here! UFO in 1612 saves suicidal maiden! I love it! Another suicide... it has to be the cliff thing!
CARRY ON!

LOL I know the UFO is a good idea .. hey I never know what is going to happen.
@beekerst Give it a read she is not suicidal, the Bishop did not like the fact she stood up to him.
@michelle.gent gave a great assignment with the POV
Hey, thanks for stopping by! 🏃

Wait a minute??? I did read it! I assumed suicide because of this... in the first draft.

Sheila straightens her white dress while stepping forward to jump; tears streak her lonely face. Life can never be worth living without Jack. She is thinking of Jack, remembering the last moments of his touch, feeling life is over before plunging onto the rocky shore below.

Wasn't she going to jump? It may be a death sentence, but those suckers would have to fling my body over the edge!

@beekerst you are right, I assumed the same thing. Then as the story continues in my head I found out all the rest. What I do know is she has no choice, the Bishop otherwise would push her. She stands up for what she believes and in 1612 death happens for women otherwise, she lucked out with the Spaceship. LOL

I am still learning to write. It is very hard for me at times and exhilarating for me at times. Before Steemit no one ever read stories I write. My husband doesn't and I am not in a writer's group.

I never know either. See there is more to the story about Jack, we don't know that part yet. Perhaps, he did not stand by her side when she got in trouble with the Bishop.

Perhaps he is married, who knows? I will only know if I continue or it pops into my head and I write it down then.

When @michelle.gent gave the assignment to write using the title,
I want to go home I thought it was too hard to do and had no intention of writing it.

I get in the shower and the whole thing came into my head for that post. He told me the story himself. Turns out that one was easy.

I think Jack and Sheila fly away to a distant planet and change their names to Adam and Eve and POOF! A new civilization is born... Oh, the things we can imagine!
CARRY ON, girl, I read every word! TWICE! You have talent!

I will never know how it ends for me unless I write it. Strange isn't it that our worlds exist in our heads? Imagination is all there is.

I like your ending. Well done.

Thank you for your encouragement, it is so nice to communicate with other writers. :)

Yeah due to spaceship in the sky her intention to fall into the sea to end her got distracted and she fall on the firm ground because the society was letting her what she wanted to do...
Now it is abvious presence of spaceship saves her and later the spaceship disappears in the water like it never exists..
Thereafter she went back happily to bishop..
It shows some we should compromise with some situations in order to make our life happier..

The Bishop was having her to jump; she is under house arrest.
I could only write 500 words and from a certain point of view.
I don't think she is very happy with the Bishop.

I do appreciate you commenting though; I know at times my writing can be confusing.

Yeah that is right ..actually i got little bit in confusion..

no worries...it was confusing for me to write in a different way.
This is how we learn.

Thanks, for not letting me down.. you are such a cool person..

Your comments are important to me. This is how we build in Steemit.

Hmm,, once again thanks you are very helpful..
