Route 66 Adventure - The Cyrus Avery Centennial Plaza in Tulsa, Oklahoma
Hello Everyone! Because we have been asked by @nathanmars to only put up one video in a 24 hour period to be respectful to each other, we are not putting up a Dtube Snap today. Instead of the Snap, we are putting up this travel adventure video.

Today, we want to share our trip to The Cyrus Avery Centennial Plaza in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This is the location where Cyrus Avery and his family had a surprise waiting for them on the Mother Road. Scott and I explore the area to see what's in store.
The Mother Road, or Route 66, is an interstate that starts out in Chicago, Illinois, and ends up right up next to the Santa Monica Pier. In 1926, Cyrus Avery of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and John Woodruff of Springfield, Missouri, came up with the concept of a national program of highway and road development enabling the system we know so well today. They encouraged businesses to create dining, lodging, and tours attractions along the Route 66 highway. If you would like more information about the history of Route 66 you can read it HERE.
The plaza is part of the Route 66 - Vision 2025 program for the Tulsa part of the historic road. It is meant to "enhance economic development, strengthen adjacent neighborhoods and promote tourism" in Tulsa. One of the other locations created for the program is the Route 66 Historical Village in West Tulsa. We featured this location in a previous post Get Your Kicks On Route 66.
Recently Tulsa was named Capitol of Route 66 in a poll naming eight other cities. You can read the poll information HERE. John Kline, a Tulsa World Journalist writes in the Tulsa World, August 4, 2018:
Route 66 guru Michael Wallis believes Tulsa “is the heart of Route 66” and is quickly becoming the absolute must-see along the historic road.
But I digress. We decided to visit the plaza and enjoy the artwork. The statues were literally larger than life at 135% in scale but extremely lifelike. The artist Robert Summers took great care to put in many little whimsical details such as the grasshopper and Ford logo giving this a more realistic life. We were able to play around, being silly, but able to appreciate the historical impact of this location.
When we left Tulsa in 2004, we knew about Route 66, but we never really appreciated what it was. However, since we came home, we have found a new appreciation for the city and its history. Have you ever found yourself in that situation? Have you ever left a place because you felt there was nothing there for you only to come back to find something surprising?

Oh, wow! We didn't actually know about the change in word count for post and videos being different so thank you so much. However, have you ever seen me write less normally? Haha!
@nathanmars is wanting to make a change in the Dtube community. Like @steemitbloggers, he wants the Dtube community to encourage and engage with each other by commenting on videos at least three videos, putting out only one video a day giving others an opportunity to share (there is only so much space available in the Dtube world ), and to think about and appreciate their viewers then telling them. He is putting together a "family" of like-minded individuals who want to make a difference here.
It is a great thing really. It is enabling the videos to stay up longer, getting people to think about what they are putting up and how it will entertain and include the audience, and encourage communication.
Even if we aren't chosen, we truly support him in this. It takes the focus off of this being a "get what i can for myself" community to a place where we are thinking of the community as a whole. You know how much community means to us.

Ohhh ok. Hah I've just given Nathan a shoutout in my video earlier this week. Had no idea about this but I totally noticed him being all over the place, upvoting comments under my videos etc....Seems like a cool guy. Sooo I should just use the tag and comment more? That's it? You aren't bothering me at all! This is what @nathanmars is wanting. He wants us to engage and have conversations. This is a good thing. HERE. is his latest video that goes into more detail. He knows you can't make changes overnight by yourself, so he is looking for those he feels can help him start. He is such a community minded person. He is also very passio ate about it. I just love what he is encouraging.
I will be honest, I use the tag #dtubefamily777 so we can show support of Nathan and people know we will be there to support and encourage them. I believe in what he doing and I believe in this community and want to help as much as I can.

Awesome!... do you know if any of the route66 cycling routes are near this bridge? I’m in Missouri - not far from the original Route 66 corridor...

I'm not real sure, but probably because it is right off of the River Parks System. There is also a ride right off of the 66 called Avery Drive this is fantastic and traveled by many cyclists. If you come to the Tulsa area, contact us! We would love to meet up!

I like the way you videos this with the different fades and pop up words. I’m still confused as to why this is history but I guess I will have to read your post and not just watch the vid 😂
It's local history, but history about Route 66. It's a huge story here because Cyrus Avery lived in Tulsa. He was one of the first people to have the new Model-T in Tulsa County so it was big news when he caused chaos on the bridge.

You know, I've never been down Route 66, the iconic highway joining the opposite sides of the country! Would love to do a road trip and discover all the places along the way. I didn't realise it is less than 100 years old, thanks for sharing your adventure here :)
Yeah, i think the centennial celebration is 2025. We found two more places here in Tulsa that were Route 66 related so there will definitely be more to come.
Our friend has a website https://interstate411.us He has filmed the whole Route. Not sure if it is up yet, but when it is, it would give you an idea of what it's like.
