Trying to Buy a Steem Monsters Starter Pack - Upfundme Post #004
All liquid funds earned from this post will be used to help me buy a Steem Monsters starter pack. If you still don't know what Steem Monsters is, you can read an explanation in my first post about it.
I had planned to stop making upfundme posts at the end of August because I had thought the pre-sale would end in September and the starter pack's price would increase. However, just when I was ready to consider the campaign as finished, the Steemmonsters.com website got a big revamp, and now the main page has the information that the alpha cards pre-sale will continue until 300,000 booster packs have been sold, or October 1st, 2018, whichever comes first (was this information on the old site too? I don't remember, but I don't think it was). From this information, I came to believe October (or the milestone of 300k pack sales) is the deadline for the starter pack's price to remain unchanged, and concluded there's still a bit more time.

Sure enough, it's already September and the starter pack's price is still the same. So, I have decided to keep going with this #upfundme campaign for a bit longer. This means it's not game over for this campaign yet! I'll likely keep going for a couple more weeks, and post twice a week to try to gather a bit more. I hope I still have time, and the booster pack sales don't reach 300k in one month :P .
The Results So Far
The last post paid out, and I got $0.206 STEEM, which I traded on the market for $0.197 SBD.
Below are the goal and the total earnings from each previous upfundme post:
- Target: $5 USD ($4.863 SBD according to the price on the Steemmonsters.com website at the moment of writing this post).
- The earnings from Post #001: $0.172 SBD.
- The earnings from Post #002: $0.202 SBD.
- The earnings from Post #003: $0.197 SBD.
- Amount gathered so far: $0.571 SBD.
- Amount still required: $4.292 SBD
Even with the extended deadline, I don't think the upfundme will reach the 5 USD goal (or even half of it), judging from the results so far, but whatever I can get helps.

And what will you do if you do not enter your goal? By it anyway or save to something else?
Buy it anyway and cover the remaining costs with my normal SBD. It's probably what's going to happen, so I have to hold onto my SBD to make sure I'll have enough. The collected amount will go towards the starter pack no matter what (using it for anything else would be disrespectful to everyone who upvoted these posts with the intention of helping me buy the starter pack!). And if the starter pack's price increases before I manage to buy it, then I'll have to keep saving up until I gather enough to buy at whatever the new price is. I just hope it won't come to that because it would become much harder!

I hope so too. I already have cards, but since I don't have the starter pack, apparently I'm not officially in the game yet. Even though I know nothing about card games, I was surprised that I was able to follow the battle mechanics explanation, and this made me even more interested in playing this game.
I have a feeling you may reach the goal.
... You do? :D I still don't, but if I really manage to reach the goal and buy the pack without having to use up all my normal SBD, it'll be really fulfilling!

Actually, hold up on that. Have you seen the kickstarter, and are you able to contribute to kickstarter projects? Unfortunately the $50 tier is sold out and the higher tiers are hella expensive, but the $25 tier has a starter pack + 10 boosters + some other cards, and the starter pack is listed at 5 dollars here instead of 10 on the official website which is kind of weird.

The price of my country's currency (Brazilian Real) has been dropping a lot in relation to the USD lately, and I'd rather not make any international credit card purchases in USD right now... I think I'll just get the normal starter pack.
The price shows as 5 USD on the official site when logged in. When not logged in, it shows as 10 USD (that includes a STEEM account creation).
I finally understood what you meant by "bids," but the bid only came through right at the moment of the post's payout! So, it obviously didn't count and Bid.bot wasted a vote. I just hope you've gotten refund or credits or something out of that... thank you for the support, anyway!
Yeah unfortunately it seems like it bid too late. No I'm definitely not concerned about refunds or credits, if anything I'd try to refund them what they gave me, lol. It's no problem, I hope you open some good cards!
The starter pack's cards are supposed to be fixed, right? A few weeks ago, I was checking the data explorer at Peakmonsters.com and came across a list with the contents of what appears to be a starter pack (15 cards) from the data of someone else's purchase (haha, spoilers!). I took note of them and will compare the list once I get my pack.
And the STEEM/SBD prices just had to plummet again, right when I was going to trade this posts' earnings for SBD and purchase the pack :P .
Oh I had no idea lol. Yeah steem got hammered, let me know if you have any shortfalls and I can cover it.
I was waiting to trade the last earnings on the market, hoping that the STEEM prices might recover, and it didn't happen. But when I read the news that there were only around 15k alpha packs left, I had to take the plunge. Thankfully the earnings from the previous upfundme posts made up for the low SBD prices and I was able to get the pack. Only a couple hours later, 0 packs left! Wow, that was close...
In the end, I'm still unsure what's inside the starter pack, because the site didn't give me the option to open it, and it looks like the site mixed the cards with the other cards I already had. The Peak monsters explorer isn't showing the cards in my purchase, either. Ah well...
Anyway, I'm finally in the game! Thank you so much for the help once again!
