UNDER_STEEMED Open Source Project for Steemit Curators

in #utopian-io7 years ago (edited)

A lot of new writers on this platform have been battling with low payouts on their posts. Most people put in extra work into their write-ups for the sake of quality and providing value yet aren’t still getting the type of exposure they deserve.

Less exposure results in less upvotes and comments and ultimately less payouts. That’s common math that doesn’t really need to be pointed out. While the reason for some posts not getting higher payouts is the result of a number of factors which includes but not limited to

• plagiarism (thank you @cheetah)

• uninteresting posts

• Less engagement with the community and so on.

Aside the ones highlighted above, there are however some hidden gems of posts out there that don’t get the rewards they deserve basically due to the fact that they get lost in the sea of other high paying posts giving top curators a hard time finding them.

So, is there a way to get curators to notice undervalued posts? Yes, there is actually. Any curator that feels the need to seek out undervalued posts can now do that using this simple and elegant tool known as UNDER_STEEMED.

How does UNDER_STEEMED work?

Simply put UNDER_STEEMED is a search tool developed by @tabris for curators to find undervalued posts. It uses different types of filters to classify posts into different categories.

UNDER_STEEMED is an open source project and is hosted on Github which means anyone with coding skills can contribute to its development, so if you like the idea kindly help blossom it.

You can access UNDER_STEEMED at https://sydneyitguy.github.io/understeemed/.

Features

At the very top of the page you can see a username and beside it “VP” which is the voting power available for the chosen username. You can change the username to yours just by clicking the change button and entering your username is the alertbox shown.

Next up is the text box used to add tags, if you wish limit search to a certain tag or category just enter the preferred tag in the textbox and click add Tag. Underneath the textbox is a list of available tags that has been added automatically by the developer, they include “all”, “kr” and “dev”.

under_steemed_2.PNG

After the tags comes the filters among the filters we can find extras for setting criteria of posts that will be show in the search result. The present filters are “created before”, “at least”, “values under”, “over_____long”, “at least(2)” “author with at least”, “sort by_______first”. All these filers are really self explanatory but I’ll still cover their basic functions soon enough.

Now, let’s talk about each filter individually

“Created before”: You can choose to show posts that were created before a certain period. The lowest time range is “0 minutes ago” and highest is “6 days ago”

“at least”: There are two filters on the tool page bearing the words “at least”.
The first one sets the search results based on the least number of votes the post has. The lowest option is “0 votes” and the highest option is “20 votes”.

The second “at least” filter is used to set search results based on the least number of images that’s featured in the post. The lowest option is “0 images” and the highest option is “10 images”.

“values under”: This filter sets the search results based on the amount it has made from curation so far. You can choose between “1 SBD” as the lowest and “100 SBD” as the highest.

“over_____long”: This selection is used to return posts with a desired number of words or character(I’m not sure which). Range to choose from is between 100 characters to 5000 characters.
The desired option goes between “over” and “long”, so a choice of 500 words would look like “over 500 characters long”.

“author with at least”: You can also choose posts to curate based on the reputation the least reputation the author has. Options start at “0 reputation” and ends at “60 reputation”.

“sort by_______first”: This feature sorts the search result based on two options, the first is “recent post” while the other is “higher estimated reward”. The first sorts through based on how recent he post is and the second sorts based on how high the estimated payout is.
Just like “over_____long” the desired option goes between “sort by” and “first”.

What else?

As potentially useful as under_steemed seems to be for curators, I think the work is not complete yet.

The tool already does God’s work by providing a platform for posts that are undervalued which is cool, but I think it would be nicer if posts featured on under_steemed platform could be based on quality.

One way to determine the quality of a post is to have the tool check if it isn’t plagiarized (by looking out for cheetah’s comment).

Another way would be to check through the post to see if it is structured well.

Well written, interesting and useful posts tend to spark reactions so a post getting a fair number of comments has proven to be useful to a certain audience, this can also be added to the criteria for determining quality.

This is a contributor report for “Utopian.io”. Utopian.io is a tool developed by @elear for open source developers and members of the steemit community who wish to contribute their ideas to the open source world. Sort:

Awesome tool and as someone who typically spends hours writing a post I love anything that helps good quality content get the recognition it deserves!

I completely agree that comments may be a good way to help surface undervalued posts. Particularly looking at the level of nesting in the comments I think can help determine a post that triggers a good discussion as compared to a post that has lots of top level "great post!" comments.

It's nice to have someone agree with my point of view, thanks for reading.....

By the way I checked out your steem bot tracker project and it was really great, I'd definitely be trying it out in my future posts.... You rock

Thanks for the upvote, you rock

more views, more content, good engagement. This looks like a terrific tool! I hope it is well taken advantage of. Well done @tabris!

It is a terrific tool. Thanks for taking the time to read....

I am definitely gonna try this out...thank you @gotgame While i get the reasons many mechanisms are put in place...i think that it also contributes to under voted posts because...as i have read...you dont want to make more than 10-12 upvotes per day....so you dont lose voting power. I know i see many more posts i would upvote if it were not for this....what to do.
as per newbie sites to boost upvotes and followers....i have received a boost from steemfollower ...while you have to sift through to find the real people and good posts...they are there and it is reciprocal. I found it worked best the first week...now not so much...but i appreciated the help in those first weeks. If your a NOOB and this interests you...it would be cool of you to use my referral to join... https://steemfollower.com/?r=4031 cheers again

I think it'd be cool if you tried it out, it's a nice tool especially if you focus on finding newbie posts to boost.

I know about steemfollower and I also used it at some point, like you I also stopped using it when I didn't get mush results from there, but it's still a really cool platform for people who want to build their follower base
