Swing low, sweet M1116 (coming for to carry them home)

An explosion rocks your senses, and for a few seconds, time slows.
You cannot hear, and you seem to have lost control of your body.
An acrid smell fills the air.
Your hearing slowly returns to the sounds of shouting and gunfire.
Clumps of dirt and debris are falling from the sky.
Oil and transmission fluid boil in small pools within what looks like a meteor crater.
The up-armored M1116 now looks like crumpled paper.
Your heart pounds, your stomach crawls up your throat.
The mental explosion hits as you realize who was in the vehicle.

This is a piece I did commemorating an IED strike on a humvee and the lives lost.
@linnyplant said she was going to draw a humvee so I am showing her that a humvee can be whatever you want it to be, but especially when it is being ripped apart by an explosion.
This piece was done with watercolor tinted gesso, with the subject executed in pen and colored pencils for the translucent effect and chaotic lines.
I think I also did a watercolor wash with salt for the dirt, and the handprints were acrylic paint.

I would love to hear your thoughts or feelings on this piece.
Thank you for taking the time to view this.

This is really meaningful.. a lot of emotions builds up in me.. I remember the war that erupts last year in the southern part of our country in the city of Marawi.. a lot of dreams been shattered a lot of lives been into slumber.. the one peaceful city is filled with gunfires explosions and bloodlust... innocent lives have been taken... i was really moved by this work... it brings a strong message to me and I know to everyone too

Thank you for sharing your thoughts my friend.
I believe that war is hardest of all on the civilians who live where it is being fought.
It breaks my heart knowing how many innocent lives are shattered by no fault of their own except trying to live their lives.
(I made a memorial to civilian casualties and will share it on steemit eventually)
Take care, and I hope that you find peace and joy.

It's a sad scene but you did a great job on the artwork ..

This is beautiful, powerful and sad and uplifting at the same time. I think it was a great choice to use lighter pastel colors, not what you would typically think of for such a violent, explosive subject matter - but very appropriate for the commemoration of lives lost. The hand prints are extremely powerful. This teared me up a little, brother. Much love - Carl

Thanks man. Much of my war-related art is made for veterans who have lived and lost, and are now left trying to heal and come to terms with the pain, guilt, fear, and emptiness.
I see a lot of war-themed artwork that handles it by showing it just how it is, in its full-blown ugliness, hopelessness, and despair.
My feelings are that: as humans prone to selfishness, disillusionment, and strife, we will always have war with us.
But as evolved creatures with rational minds and hearts capable of love and hope, it is possible to rise above it, learn from it, heal, and change.
As an artist, I feel it is not my job to share ugliness and despair but instead hope and healing.
And knowing that my artwork has touched someone and moved them to deeper thought is a reward that you couldn't put a price on.

The two hands in the top left hand corner...just ouch. That is all I want to really share on this post. Thanks for taking the time brother

Thanks for taking the time to view my work. (and the resteem)
