It's like I'M LIVING IN THE FUTURE
Hey, Steemians! So I just had to joke around for a moment:
I made a deal on Simbi, the barter site - my referral link, where I got a few DVDs from someone. Two of them were replacements for movies I already have on VHS. Yes, VHS. My television is a wee tiny CRT one with an attached VCR. But I hardly use it, so after I got rid of a bunch of VHS tapes and DVDs to start with, I noted which of my favorites that I still watch were starting to get warped (as tapes do), and which ones I would really want to replace if the VCR/TV stopped working even if they weren't warped. Because, if this TV breaks, I have no intention of replacing it. I just don't use a TV enough to really justify buying one. So, downloadables or DVDs which I can play on my Kindle or laptop.
I already got replacements for Dead Poets Society and Legends of the Fall, and also on the list was The 13th Warrior. Because who doesn't love Vikings v. Neanderthals?
I realize DVDs are old school to most people, and if people have hard copies at all, which is rare in itself, they have Blu Ray generally, but no I still have a CRT television, you think I give a shit about a few more pixels or surround sound or whatever the fuck? Nah. I want the story, not the immersive shiny experience. 3D and VR and 4000 pixels or whatever the fuck the 60" monster screens are? No thanks. I want to curl in bed with my laptop with the sound down low on a small screen that won't hurt my farsighted eyes. LOL
But hey, at least I'm in the 21st century now. Digital vikings v. neanderthals. High tech, y'all!

Yay, people who like the same movies! Neither my family nor my former roommates enjoy the same movies. I mean, I'll watch action and superhero movies with them too but they aren't into mine generally. The lone exception is, another favorite, Scent of a Woman, my roomie would come out just to watch the end part where Al Pacino raises hell in the school with an epic takedown speech. And then she'd wander back to her room. XD
Yay! Hi-five! I love movies that touches the heart and soul and that includes Scent of a woman too!!! Oo i love that speech. Almost cried listening to it. Yah, sometimes, i don’t mind watching them alone haha. I think i watched most of the movies myself hehe.

Yeah, most of the time I watched alone, too, lol. I got my friend to watch Brokeback Mountain in the theater with me by insisting, "You like yaoi (anime about gay men), so it's like yaoi but not animated." LOL. She tolerated it. Didn't really like it, though.

How cute are you lol. That is a great story and you are perfectly righ who needs a tv when you have a PC or laptop or even a kindle, you can watch or download anything you want and then keep or delete. We have no TV either but are considering getting a projector to connect to the pc for that big movie experience lol.

We're kindred spirits!
When I found out I was pregnant with Inari I gave my television away. That was a decade ago. We HAVE a screen now a 23" something we were given second hand and the kids use it for movies. I haven't watched regular television in a decade!
I've gotten passed the feeling weird when I tell people I don't watch anything other than the occasional anime. Lol

My relations are all big TV watchers. At family gatherings, they all discuss shows and even the commercials. Once my uncle was specifically asking me if I thought this one commercial was funny. I said I hadn't seen it. He was like, but it's on every other commercial break on every channel!! His derisive joke was, "Do you even OWN a tv?" I said, well, technically, but I haven't turned it on except to play WiiFit since the last season of Sherlock. When was that? Two years ago?
He was so flabbergasted, he didn't know what to say. XD Yeah, I am definitely the weirdo of the family.
Lol, saaaaame! My mother actually schedules activities around her shows. I don't get it. Lol
well there ya go, I shall join the clan of a non tv watcher. I do however watch movies and the odd hockey game, since hubby likes that. I have a host of DVD's and I still owe you that coffee.
