Learning to Trust Your Gut

Hi Friends!

I often refer to myself as a "recovering people pleaser", and anyone who can relate to that knows that sometimes learning how to trust ourselves and our gut can be challenging.

In this video, I share a bit of my past and the negative consequences I encountered when putting other's needs above my own. As I was working on releasing some of those people pleasing tendencies, I realized that my "gut check" wasn't very strong because it was clouded over by my desire to "keep the peace" and please others.

In this video, I talk about some of the actionable steps I took to go from where I was, to where I am today. Most of the time now, I can run an idea or decision through my gut and immediately have a strong sense of what will be best for me and what decision feels best in my body.

This vlog was sparked by a conversation I had with @larrymorrison the other day. He interviewed me on his The Journey Inward Series and this topic came up. If you aren't already, definitely go follow Larry and check out his interview series! He has chatted with some really incredible people about spirituality and the law of attraction. Our interview together will be up here on Dlive sometime soon!

I am also testing the waters with a different video style here. This video is totally uncut - meaning that there are no edits. You are just hearing me share straight from the heart. I may dive into the world of live streaming soon, and thought this would be a good baby step to get more comfortable with the idea. I'd be interested to hear if you guys enjoy this style of video. Thanks @dnews for the inspiration to do an uncut video!

Thank you so much for watching! I hope this video was helpful for at least a few of the other recovering people pleaser's out there.

XO, Lea

Trust in your higher self, that’s the feeling I get. It’s the one that pulls me out of the way of traffic into a puddle the same way it pulls me from avoiding confrontation into a solution. My best decisions have always been the gut ones eg the community 😘

Stay true to yourself no matter what that means to you!

Thanks for the thoughtful response @d00k13!! I love your outlook on trusting your higher self.

Ps... sorry it’s been so long since I stopped by and said hi on your page! I hope you’re doing well! That peanut butter cookie recipe you posted a looooong time ago when we first met is still one of my favorite cookies! Haha I think of you whenever I make it!

Likewise we both have a lot on our plates, I’m trying this weekend focus a little more on outreach then creation 😎 glad I caught this one!

I’m so flattered to have made such an impact on you, back then I didn’t know where I was going to end up but look at both of us now! I managed to get my first video into trending so stoked about that but hey this isn’t about me it’s about everyone I can help along the way.

Yea that cookie recipe was a moment of pure inspiration thanks to your giveaway/contest post, sometimes I need the little kick in the bum to do things and you very well may have started my momentum!

So cool to get that big vote and hit trending!! It's such a crazy cool feeling when you refresh the page and see that number change! Congrats on that accomplishment... you totally deserve it!

That just made my day to hear that our interaction way back when helped start your momentum! That's one of the things I love about this place, we are all having so many positive interactions here every day... and you never know what kind of impact that will have on someone. :)

That is the legacy I hope to leave behind, honouring those that have helped me along the way through acknowledgment. Sometimes the simplest sentiment can make all the difference, I will never forget that encouragement!

One day I’ll have another recipe, keeping it simple as always 🙃

Well our interview is totally ruined now Lea!! LMAO 😂😂

I'm really glad you decided to expand on this topic because it is such an important skill to cultivate. Knowing yourself is the entire point of all of this and trusting your own judgement or "gut" is one of the most valuable tools for living.

I love how you talked about starting small to build up a foundation. I've thought about that often since our conversation. I'm clearly going to steal that 😇

So cool to hear that stuck with you from our conversation!! Steal away my friend! The fact that this whole vlog was derived from 1 minute of our hour long interview speaks volumes to what a great conversation it was! <3

Indeed, already can't wait for the next one 😉

I like this raw uncut video @coruscate I find it refreshing to be honest... it shows you are real, your kindness is not an act..

I think many of us have different names for the gut, I happen to call it "my center" but I believe we are talking exactly about the same things.

Its about being in touch with ourselves, or at least it starts there... understanding we can't make everyone happy, everyone like us... the conversation gets so philosophical it requires hours and wine... but I love this subject.

Thanks for the food for thought as they say...

Thanks for the feedback on the video style. I think a philosophical discussion about this over wine sounds awesome. Just let me know when and where! haha

Center is another great word for it. Sometimes I refer to it as my inner wisdom too.

For myself, I kind of like using the word "gut" because I think this word tends to have a lot of negative connotations in terms of body image - at least for women. Not having a "gut" is praised and so for me it's almost like reclaiming that word as something positive.

Thanks for the thoughtful response! :)

and by the way loved the 'recovering people's pleaser' haha I'm one too. And it's true, you have to develop it and train it, almost like a muscle, in order to grow more into yourself and live up to your truth.

haha I'm glad you liked that phrase! Developing the gut really is like training a muscle. Awesome to hear that you are well on your path to overcoming your people pleasing tendencies too. :)

Oh how cool! I was featured there as well :) and I totally get it, haha after talking with Larry I had lots of inspiration and made a series of videos for my own channel. Thanks for sharing! I just saw you through muse project! :)

Larry is so awesome. I'll have to go back and give your interview a listen and check out your latest video series!

I love it when meaningful conversations with people spark great content like that. <3

yeah, it's so cool, isn't it? That's one thing I love about Steemits, the community. Compared to other platforms is way more positive :)

It is really hard to please everyone especially when some people who do not know how to appreciate and take advantage of it. Just like a kite, sometimes we need to give it a pull while sometimes we just have to let go the string a little. What we cannot to afford to do anymore, I guess we need to learn how to let go! It is harder for you especially you grew so popular in steemit! I am still a small fly here! LOL

ooh great analogy with the kite! Learning to get go is a practice and (at least for me) is something i'm always working on.

Thanks for the thoughtful response my friend!

I am also suffering from this great problem. I always have the notion "what will people say about me". Sometimes I wish I could do things my way but I am just always afraid of what people will say about me. This has led to my "unseen imprisoned life". I don't live life the way I suppose to but I am always after offering people their needs. This caused great depression in me and anxiety. One day I decided I was gona stop pleasing people and I will live my life the way I wish to but that one day becomes everyday. It's just like I am procrastinating and no improvement.

But I am sure with this great video, it served as a means of motivation and inspiration to me. It's just like you are an angel sent to me to solve the problem.

Thanks for sharing this @coruscate and I hope everyone will learn something great from this. With love from @hardaeborla.

Wow, thank you for sharing your story. I think you said it perfectly - that always trying to please others can feel like an unseen imprisoned life. That's a powerful way to put it.

I'm glad to hear that you are working on this for yourself. Best of luck in your journey. <3

Thanks for the kind words. I will try as much as possible to change for the better.
