#needlework monday - Work in Progress

in #needleworkmonday6 years ago (edited)

Phew, a busy few months working, running and gardening - knitting has taken a back seat since the sun came out. I'm collecting ideas for the winter in my trusty notebook, and I have a small project on the go for train journeys. But the other morning, I found myself working, even on the train!

A summer scarf for a young friend using Rowan hand-knit cotton. I'm knitting it side to side, rather than end to end. I've about a third more to do.

I can't say I've really got into this project, I suppose there have been too many other things going on. Still, it's nearly finished! I'm starting a big gardening project at the end of this week, when my gardener joins me for the summer. I want to re-design the front garden - relay the path, put in a pond, set some fruit trees as a screen from my neighbour's car port.

Yesterday I rescued this from the roadside. Planting it will be one of my projects this summer.

I also started running this year. I train about three times a week. It was exhausting as I learned to get into my routine, but now I'm pretty much on top of it and love going out. My favourite time is early in the morning, when it's quiet and fresh, or just after nine o clock, when everyone has got to work or school and there's a lull in traffic and noise.

I'm running in the Leicester 5k Race for Life and the payouts from all my running posts tagged #raceforlife will be donated to Cancer Research UK until then. If you would like to support me please vote for one of my posts below.

The scarf looks great and I am sure your friend will love it! Can't wait to see what you will plant in that box :-)

Me neither, but I couldn't pass it by!

Wow you are still on track with the running, this is fantastic. I still have this mysterious shin problems, but I can avoid/delay them by making earlier during the run walking pauses and by only running for 20 min... I now its not much, but I hope I can increase it slowly.
Knitting a scarf lenghtwise is so cool :-D (And as it is a gift, it is also very nice of you)
I wish you fun with your garden (I am still a little envious .... no garden on my side) <3

I am very proud of my running and that I am keeping it up. In some ways, it is easy because I enjoy it so much, but of course, life is always waiting to distract you with other things that must-be-done. Twenty minutes running is quite a long time. I did look up shin problems last time you mentioned it and then it seems there are many potential causes. The main solution, though, always seem to be the same - be more gentle (as you are by walking) and build your running time slowly.
I'm loving the garden, I have always enjoyed it but I am learning so many things through Steemit.
I will tell you more about the scarf another time!

You have been very busy @shanibeer... and the pattern of that scarf looks very interesting - does the pattern have a name?

It's a rowan pattern that I have adapted. I'll post a link later. It's varied enough to be interesting, but not so complicated that you have to concentrate, it's quite relaxing :)

So hard to do all the things! So much gardening and life to do before sitting down to knit! I like how that scarf looks so far, looking forward to seeing the finished piece.
Great job on continuning to run, so many folks quit once it gets hard.

I agree - knitting has been relegated to the winter. I love a long Saturday afternoon watching daft dramas on one of the freeview channels (most of them used to be on Sunday evenings when I was growing up). I haven't had a chance to get to the knitting group for months, that, too, will have to wait for the winter.
Thanks for the compliment about the scarf, knitting it side to side, I'm a little anxious about whether it will turn out long enough! It might turn into a toque or something 😂

Gardener joins me for the summer ?

Hmmmmm......

I actually used to love gardening, please post some pics :-)

Hehe, sure 😊
What did you like about gardening?

It was very calming and I liked taking an unkempt mess and making it beautiful. Sadly not had a garden for almost 15 years.

Yes, gardening is very relaxing and meditative. I like making something ordered, although I'm now going over to permaculture including the chop and drop method - you just cut weeds and leave them where they are!

Wow good for you for sticking to running!!! I love that you are donating to cancer research! You do have a lot going on!

The scarf looks so pretty...I love the color and textures. Your handiwork is always so neat and precise!

@crosheille hope your cold is better and you're relaxed and rested, waiting for your daughter.

Yes, lots of going on, but so good to enjoy the sun!

Oo I like the scarf @shanibeer. Is it a basket weave pattern? I like textured patterns and yours is very neatly knitted. I still can't get to knitting consistently throughout a piece without a couple of holes in between. I think I need to practice more. Happy running (aah fresh morning air is nice) and gardening (I like your new wooden garden bed)! It is always great to be outdoors :)

Hello! It looks like basket weave, but I'm not sure 😊 My knitting is terrible, I have to knit with smaller needles than the pattern says to get any kind of tension! But I enjoy it, well, most of the time.

Happy gardening @shanibeer and happy #needleworkmonday . I hope you will able to raise fund for the research org too. It is heartwarming to see your endeavour to support other lives.

Thank you!
