Walking Advertisement | Accounts We Should Be Supporting On STEEM

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

I hear all the time how we need to advertise Steem more and appeal to the masses.. that investors here want to see the platform grow and therefore improve their return on investment. Who can blame them? I want to see the same. Most individuals know that advertising is an extremely important aspect to any business or organization after all.

Now while I agree with this completely, I feel that we are missing a HUGE opportunity right under our noses...

D88BDF04-1947-40E7-B184-8DA5EDFF62C0.jpeg

You see, we have some amazing users here who are actively contributing to the platform and have something very unique in common;

⭐️🎉⭐️THEY HAVE A HUGE FOLLOWING ON OTHER SITES!!⭐️🎉⭐️

Why is that special? Well I don’t know, what do people do when they find something that they really enjoy? Well, They talk about it.. they share it.. they tell people about their experiences and why they love it.

These individuals have built a name for themselves on other social media platforms and are now here on Steem, and they want to be a part of this groundbreaking platform.

So, why aren’t we supporting them?

Sadly something else these individuals have in common is that they don’t have much of a following here, and I can only assume it’s because they aren’t being seen.

Curation initiatives like @curie and @c-squared and @ocd have been trying to support them, because they see the value they bring here... but, I think we as a platform can do more.

I know there are large accounts here who care about the future of this place, and have not only invested their money but their time into making this place something special. So, I’m hoping this post leads some of you in the right direction.. and that you will also see the potential in supporting these accounts. Because they are an opportunity to reach those individuals we want to bring here in a whole new way.

What’s this mean for new users?

I think when new users show up here completely on their own, they are a bit lost at first. BUT what if these new users heard about the Steemit platform from someone they follow on another site? I think it completely changes their initial experience and gives them an advantage.

How does this help?

Well, they immediately have someone to follow, someone to engage with, a whole group of people who have something in common with them. They find themselves on that persons Steemit blog, interacting with their followers in comments.. rather then on the dreaded trending page getting unrealistic ideas of what’s possible here. It gets these new users immediately involved in those communities that we all know are vital for long term success and therefore improving user retention over all.

(ugh, I’m about to tag people because I think it’s necessary but please know that I don’t take tags lightly...)

So... @Ned (I’d only do it because I think it’s important), @thejohalfiles (because I know you manually curate like a boss), @drakos (best pirate curator I know), @wackou (because your actions say you care), @pharesim (because goodness gracious you have such a heart for this place ❤️), @blocktrades (because I see you out supporting valuable authors), @acidyo (because you are a rockstar curator).. I ask that you, as well as everyone else, to please take a look at the following accounts here on Steem and I hope that you see the same opportunity that I do...

@Roadsuntraveled

Hosted by Marcus Vandenberg, Roads Untraveled brings you inside car culture like you've never seen it before with fast-paced video features, reviews, written articles, as well as our weekly podcast. Whether you're into the latest JDM and tuner trends, big displacement muscle, or just want to know what it feels like to take a ride in a supercar, we've got you covered. We love car culture just as much as you do, which is why we want to share the experience.

@roadsuntraveled has been sharing content here on Steem pretty consistently with little rewards and even promots Steemit to their nearly 192K YouTube subscribers. They produce high quality content and add so much value here.

@Gardeningchannel

Gardening is my passion, and growing Food Forests is my specialty. I go beyond organic gardening and work with nature rather then against it. Gardening doesn't have to be hard, and you don't have to be a servant to the garden. I can help you too create a gardening system that works with you and for you rather then you working for it. I use No pesticides, No herbicides. No fungicides, No growth hormones, No antibiotics, and No fertilizers. I allow nature to be the teacher and mimic the natural forest model to create an ideal living environment for all living things. I know their aren't a lot of people who are super excited about growing their own food, but at a time when GMO's and pesticide laden foods are causing so many health problems, I am standing in the gap showing others there is a different, and a better way!

James is a fun and characteristic guy who has been actively sharing and engaging here but hasn’t quite found his following. I just chatted with him today and he will be using @dtube on his future videos to help support the platform and @heimindanger I hope you will be looking out for him. He also has plans to make a video talking about the Steem platform to share with his YouTube viewers while wanting to invest here for the long term.. he’s someone we all should be following and supporting in my opinion. He’s just the person we want here and want sharing Steem with the world.

I'm just some guy trying to do the best I can in this world. :-)

I just discovered @adventurebuilder in his recent posts showing how he is making a solar boat by hand.. part by part.. to say it’s impressive is an understatement. He’s so much fun to watch and his fix it attitude is refreshing. Many of his videos have over 200k views and I can see why... he is a huge asset to this platform.

Oh Pris is someone so special.. not only does she have a reach of over 15k followers across her social media platforms but she is so devoted to Steemit and spends so much time trying to make this place a little better each day.

She not only consistently posts exceptional content exclusive to Steemit, but she curates and engages in such positive ways. She reaches out to users who have stopped posting for one reason or another.. and uplifts others. Her attitude and giving heart is inspiring.. and I could go on about her for ages. She’s someone we want out talking about Steem, and she’s someone we all should be supporting. Even @berniesanders sees the value in @yidneth, and it’s one of the reasons that grumpy old onion has a special place in my heart.. cause he cares about this place too 🙂

These FIVE Accounts Alone Have Over 346K Followers Combined!!

This is a missed opportunity and I hope you all see the value that I do, join me in supporting them.

They Essentially Are Walking Advertisments For STEEM, Let’s Give Them Something To Talk About...

Much Love and Steem On,

Justine

Sort:

Great post. When it can take 2-3 weeks to get a new account approved and when it's difficult for new people to get any meaningful votes, then there's probably a reason you haven't seen much marketing yet. The conversion and retention rates have been too poor to justify the expense; as someone who has plenty of energy on marketing and outreach myself, I can say that most of it has been too premature.

As the platform matures (with development producing SMTs and communities and with new apps joining the blockchain), marketing's time will come. When it does, your idea is right on target because influencers from other platforms are the easiest and cheapest way to grow the platform in a hurry. I've long argued that we need to find support for them when they come here and I've used some of my votes for that purpose.

Thank you! Really great points, and I do agree.. I don’t think we are quite ready for the masses as I hear many people pushing for recently. I believe we are doing something here that has never been done and therefore takes time. I just have heard a big push for outside advertising lately and so this subject has been on my mind a lot. It’s a shame to see such valuable individuals on this platform go unnoticed.

I know you work pretty hard to support these folks and many like them, thank you for that. I believe this sort of support is the reason many of them stick around, and become as addicted to this place as we are haha.

I think SMTs will be such a game changer and am excited to see how it changes the face of curation and communities alike. I think even though most agree that we still have a ways to go before we are ready for mainstream.. we all want to support those that add value here.. to keep them here for the long run. Thanks for being such a huge part of that.

This is what I find bizarre about steemit and the general debates/discussions on this platform...There is a huge argument about what quality is and all the rest that goes with that argument (blah blah), but then there is also the fact of why it fails in keeping users on board...right? Has it ever occurred to anyone that constantly promoting the same accounts on a platform wide basis, kills off any hope of keeping the smaller bloggers on board? It also creates a real world elitist attitude to the block chain, where the overwhelming majority of the rewards are flowing into the wallets of a select number of large accounts? It's like a centralised system within a decentralised platform lol.

Isn't the small blogger just as important, as the "well known" social media celebrity types with a large following on other platforms? This is why the smaller users don't stay/hang around! Just because they don't get paid to blog on other platforms, it doesn't mean they will do it for nothing on here. It's all about their perceptions (not ours), and some of the perceptions about how this platform operates are well...

There also seems to be a large disconnect between users that are doing extremely well out of steem, and the users who basically don't exist. Yes, I know no one is entitled to anything and has to produce reasonable content to get noticed or supported, but that disconnect is very real.

Yes I also understand that getting people on board with a large following from outside of steemit helps promote and grow steem. I get that, and it's true. BUT, you will then only have the same popular celebrity types take over steem, by recreating the real world and leaving everyone else behind.

Sorry, but I just find a lot of the conversations quite hypocritical, which is why I generally don't say too much on these topics.

That's enough of my uninformed rambling...Now i'll just go back to my little corner and be nice:)

Nope, your opinion is valid and one that is understandable. Luckily there are curation groups that focus on the users you described exactly.. but those groups need support to continue this work as well. The issue currently is trying to get the larger stake holders to see the value in curation and supporting these initiatives, but it’s something I focus on in my work with @c-squared/@c-cubed, @helpie and @curie... they are all focused on helping the little guys. One thing that I think is huge for those accounts (and myself because while I have grown a ton since joining in January.. I’m still a Minnow), is communities. Communities and networking is pretty vital here.. which was my point in new users already having a place to feel at home once they arrived.

This post is mostly touching on supporting these walking advertisements rather than actually paying for outside advertising. These accounts are small on Steem, have little to no following and are not making much without the help of curation initiatives or larger votes... which is why I mentioned these rather than those already doing well. The idea is they could be a way to reach many while still supporting great content.

There will always be celebrity accounts here, it’s just the world we live in.. BUT that doesn’t mean that we all don’t have a fair chance of finding our own level of success here. Our goals need to be realistic though and we have to put in the time.. and yeah, we all can’t be amazing bloggers I agree.. in fact I don’t think I’m one myself.. most of the work I do here is community building and curating.

But I do see the value that accounts like these add here.. and when we add value to the platform, we all benefit because we are all investors here.

If you are looking for a community or inclusive curation group that focuses on all accounts, not just the famous ones, check out a curation project I started with some fellow curators;

We are trying to make sure everyone gets the support they need.

Thanks for your comment!

Agreed to all you said. Now I'm back to my little corner and be nice too LOLOLOLOL

Lol... The good corner? I was sent to the ed naughty corner 😈

Influencer marketing is huge nowadays and only getting stronger and bigger. Soon blockchains will be looking for their own influencers to spread their message (it's actually already happening). It's a tremendous opportunity for early adopters. I'd like to name-drop @thelifeofjord into this post too. He has a pretty big Youtube following and promotes Steem too. DTube already likes him and his girlfriend, @oliviadejeu, but the more support they have here and outside Steem, the better.

The comment that said people expect an upvote for sneezing made me laugh. Some of the curated stuff out there kinda seems that way to me many times. While some people are very consistent in posting, much of it is crap content but it still gets big upvotes anyway. That's one of my biggest frustrations right now. I wish I knew the solution to these problems but I'm not that smart. Hopefully, the developers and witnesses can help resolve these issues in the future.

Wow, so glad I came across your post @llfarms as I'm really don't know what should I think about it. I mostly just see and read then think along. I also just had this conversation with Steem friend just a few days ago at the in person meetup here in BKK. He said, he lost faith in Steem a little bit and told me a story how he bought a youtube dude that has 2xxxxx subscribers on there here but he didn't get any attention so he left.

There's what I kinda told him..

(Don't hate me for saying this.. LOLOL I really don't know what's right what's wrong !
you tell me..)

The way I think about this stuff is not just they're huge from outside. If people come and really just wanna drop their stuff, fish for upvote, make some extra bucks and not communicate or not even feel the love of the platform.. I'm not really sure what's the point no more as I feel like the charm here's where we do connect with people.

I'm not talking about those you brought up.. I knew @Yidneth before and her work is just awesome. Others, I will have to check them out still.

Why I am commenting on Dave's comment?.. I do know @thelifeofjord from here on Steem / dtube. First time I saw his post I was like, damn, then hit follow just right away. Also went to check out his youtube site and also his website. Yeah, he's like a professional nomad. I left the comments for a few times and never gotten reply. After a few months or something, tbh, I did unfollow. He's not communicating. Some of the video still have the subscribe template where it's suppose to be on youtube vid.. didn't be bothered to at least trim a bit off. (I just gave you some example why do I think this way).

Not that I don't cross post. I do! I try to expand my personal brand but Steem is home. I do communicate and at least, I'm sincere with the blockchain.

If you don't know so, @markwiens a youtubers with 2.7m subscribers was also here but left after a few posts.

Again, I don't know what's right and what's wrong and what's better for the Steem Blockchain. As you seem like you know much more and yes, you also seem so smart, I would love to learn more about this topic FOR SURE.

Thanks in adv! :) <3

ADD : Ooopsy! forgot this! I just watched the vid from my fellow dtuber, @kevinli .. one sentence was 'what would you do if you have to start it all over again' >> https://busy.org/@kevinli/9wqhwkib

I totally agree!! I find those users who just dump their content here without engaging or contributing are not really worth my time. In fact their is an account who has a following of 500k at youtube that I left off the list because he has never responded to a single comment. To me these above are engaged and truly trying to be apart of the Steem ecosystem.. and that’s why I felt they were worth mentioning.

Thank you for the kind words 🤗 .. I just really feel that Steems turning point will be when content creators and investors join forces.. now I just have to figure how to get that to happen 😉

what is rewarded is value and value can happen even behind-the-scene and be rewarded on-the-scene. Plus, dirt is good. As for rewards, there is a variety of rewards, one being opportunity. That as well can come from outside steemit, perhaps straight from the search engines. As for content, there is a variety of content, when it comes to steem. As for steem overall, we take it to the moon.

I do think that those realistic expectations are so important, because new accounts show up and without understanding how anything works see a post that has huge rewards that may be low quality. That author then expects to get the same rewards etc.. which leads to frustration and possibly leaving. Now with that being said, there is this insane attitude of entitlement here and I for the life of me can’t wrap my head around it. Never in the time I have been here did I walk around pissed off because I wasn’t getting upvoted.. and yes, that sounds funny now because my payouts are insane.. but just two months ago I averaged $3 a post and was happy to get it.

So to me it’s a terrible combination of unrealistic expectations mixed with lack of guidance and communities. We need to ensure that new users are landing somewhere that will be beneficial for them.. get them involved with communities where they can easily be mentored and helped to see what is truly possible here while having that connection which is so special. I’m hoping SMTs/Hivemind communities help with this.. but we will see.

I think the whole quality is subjective is always a bit hard to take.. in fact I don’t take it well at all 😂, but it is true to a point. Some things that I see as a total waste of space others love.. so, I guess value is decided by those voting.. which I struggle with. But I am a big believer in to each their own so I try not to stress about it too much. On the other hand.. If I can guide and direct people to exceptional content, that’s what I’m gonna do. It’s just what I’m passionate about.

Ok, I’m done rambling 😜 Thanks for the comment Dave and I look forward to seeing you at SF.

Also thanks for the account suggestions! I’m adding them to my list!

I can definitely see your point in this post. These people and many more have a lot to offer our site and should be nurtured and supported. A lot of people give up on steemit very early in their journey before the get to see the real impact they can have on here.

If they can be brought on board and see what we see then they in turn can become ambassadors for the blockchain and what it has to offer to their followers as we grow and expand. Obviously the system in its current form is not perfect but hopefully the new changes will make adoption easier and it's up to us then to make it desirable.

Posted using Partiko Android

Yes exactly, new users need to have a place to land when they get here.. they need guidance and need a community. I feel having followed someone over gives them at least a place to start, which could help for their success and realistic expectations.

There are many things on the horizon for Steem and I believe SMTs will be a big help in this situation .. I’m excited to see what happens in the months to come.

I'm not sure about SMT's but the idea behind hivemind was to allow such communities to form around relevant content. This could definitely apply to new members and how to get started on here. It should be going live on the blockchain before SMT's but I haven't heard much about it lately. Hopefully it is still on track and can help out the situation. We need something as far too many users fall away in the beginning.

Posted using Partiko Android

Smts just based on the oracles and curation aspects of them.. I’m curious to see how that changes the dynamics of curation as a whole.

I agree completely and seeing that communities are so vital for user retention I think getting new users to them as quickly as possible is important for sure.

Thank you for taking the time to put this together. Hopefully this alerts people to our 'walking advertisements'.

I loved the @gardeningchannel post you sent me, very interesting and well presented. Today (my day off!), I'll check the rest out.

Thank you! These are such great authors and if any thing else, I just want to get them a bit of support.

Isn’t he great?? He put out a new one today too 😉

Thanks for your support.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the post @abh12345
Thanks for the support and kind words 😁

Hi @llfarms,

If I may, you can also promote Steem the other way, and let Instagramers, Twittos and Youtubers advertise for Steem by themselves.
@share2steem allows people to post on Steemit straight from their favourite social apps (currently Instagram, Youtube and Twitter). Whick makes 3 billion potential new users here on the Steem blockchain.

If steemians, who also use these apps for many of them, adopt Share2Steem, they could easily spread the word outside Steemit... They take a photo, post a tweet or a video, with their traditional apps, use the #share2steem hashtag (mandatory to get the post cross-posted to Steemit) and make money with their social media posts. This could attract loads of people here...

Well, hopefully !

Oh great point! I know my buddy @markangeltrueman was using this for his Instagram posts. I haven’t had the chance to try it myself but think it’s a great way to get the word out as well. Thanks for reminding me!

I’m honored to be featured on your post @llfarms !
Thank you for supporting others Steemians, and making us feel welcome. I love this community and hope to become more and more active in it 🤣

So glad to have you here! I think you add a ton of value to this place and your attitude rocks. You only can go up from here ❤️

🙏🏻😁

it's just so EPIC....to see you mention STEEM at the end of every single video!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you!!!!!

Thanks bro! Trying to help build this community for all of us

me too, and her post made me found your steemit account

Just thought I would add my 2 cents.
I try to do some manual curating now and again but it takes up a lot of time that is not always available.
I have also added a few of the accounts you mentioned because they do talk about topics that interest me (outside of crypto of course)

It is very true that these are people that are doing this on youtube in a successful way and that bringing some of their following to steem might help the transition of new users since they are not just arriving here but following someone.
If they then create their own account and start commenting and even making some cents here and there on the comments it could help them venture out and even write some stuff on their own. And that is indeed what steem needs, the natural growth. The marketing growth is needed but I think it should wait a bit till after SMT and the rest. At that time the platform will be a bit more mature and hopefully ready for it.

I agree completely.. we aren’t ready for mass marketing.. but having these accounts ready to take on the role of ambassadors of Steem to the other platforms when we are ready would be huge.. plus as you say, the natural growth from their followers is beneficial as well. It gives those new users an immediate community and therefore will help with user retention. Plus, who doesn’t want to support great content right?

Gonna go check out the blog about gardening :).

Yay! I think you will really enjoy it 😉

while i agree that these accounts would be pretty incredible advertising if they share positive experiences with steem on their other platforms, i think one large chunk is missing from this dialogue. that is the power of networking. as it stands, NO one, unless they have pretty good connections from the start (there's that old circle jerk thing again), does well unless they connect. that is the entire ethos of steem land as it stands today. a lot of people think they can come here and make big bucks off the bat, but that is not how this ecosystem works. were it a perfect world, the best content would get the most money, but of course that's not "the way it works."

i think telling people when they sign up here that the power is in your community AND your content will go a long way. people are still posting like lone wolves wondering why they don't make any money on their posts. you must be a pack animal if you would succeed on steem, and i'm not talking about vicious circle jerking. i'm talking about being active in a number of communities AND showing support for others (who have nothing to give back to you)-- that's a true community member. We need leaders for newbies. I know it might not be "economically viable" for those who have large holdings, but it is rewarding, retains users, and ultimately then increases the value of steem and our community.

I couldn’t agree more and hope that we see improvements with the implementation of the Hivemind communities. Essentially new users would immediately get that much needed community as soon as they join. Communities are so vital! And so is networking and growing your village.. and as you said, that involves going out and engaging with other users etc. I think there are so many things that go into finding success here and I feel like you hit the nail on the head of a very important one, we have to give new users more guidance if we want to see them be successful and therefore user retention improve.
