Is it a wrap for Steemit.com or is this just a slump?

in #steemit6 years ago

I saw today someone who has over a 74 reputation score was powering down significantly. Selling into a down market. So either they are a rat leaving a sinking ship or just a Chicken Little, afraid the sky is falling. What do you think?

If you are reading this then surely you have noticed that steemit.com has become a ghost town. I made a post the other day the other day that generated ZERO. It was just a shitty Parley post but nothing? Not one cent? That's never happened before.

I have over 1000 followers, a shit post should generate more than zero. So is this @steemit in a death spiral or is this just a temporary setback due to weak crypto markets?

Where is the tipping point? You are still here reading this (if anyone is left to read this) at what point do you give up? When I first started I was pretty lucky that STEEM prices were up around $5-6, with no followers I made $300 in my first month. That was 6 months ago, if I check my account now, and I have not made any withdrawals, my account is worth less than $300. Sure I have way more Steem power but it is worth far less. I was getting about $130 a week on a regular basis. Heck comments were worth more than I get for a good post that I bot up now. Some of my favorite posters seem to have disappeared, @everittdmickey has been gone for weeks. I hope he is just on vacation or just enjoying his new home but perhaps he has given up on @steem.

I don't really care about the money, but I don't know how long I can keep posting into the wind, the money is important because it keeps high quality posters engaged and posting, it's not too much fun to post things that nobody reads. Also not much fun to not have interesting things to read.

Does anyone else feel like young Indy?

Don't worry I won't leave you stranded talking to yourself...I know my vote isn't worth much but hey wasn't it you that said something is better than nothing? I've noticed a couple people are gone completely to. There's another who said he may have to power down then come back when the markets good again...I took that as stick his money in a safe place. I've noticed also a lot of people have jumped onto accounts earning less then twenty a post....usually there would be like half a dozen comments now there's over a dozen comments. Probably figure as I originally had established that those lower paying accounts were quality material worth reading because if you haven't noticed the trending page where they all were is paying about the same for the most part for junk...so they jumped over to the quality stuff. There isn't a lot of post over there paying out hundreds and thousands. Maybe I jinxed Steemit...bad luck just follows me...lol....what can I say?

yup, someone listed the highest earning posts ever and there were some over $10,000.

a dont think so. we dont now way somhone is powering down. maby getting something in real life, Ned the money. etc. a believe in steem just on how many apps are coming up. all the time. crypto in general is low so. like evry thing is pegged to bitcone.

he was looking to jump ship, he was going to keep a fair amount of STEEM but he was asking if people knew of other platforms to try. Like you say though, its all pegged to bitcoin so he would be smart to dance with the one who brought him but he is a negative nelly in general. I had unfollowed him but someone I follow resteemed his post.

You talking about Ned Ned?....one of the guys behind steem? I think the gentlemen meant Need the money not Ned the money.

@ned where for art thou? Why hathe thee forsaken us @ned?

Someday @ned will return and give me a glorious 100% upvote.

Wow, look on the bright side....my vote was the vote you needed to jump from nine cents to 7.69....maybe I didn't jinx the site after all.

just you and sending 6 STEEM to a bot. ;)

I voted it went up...lol, take away my feel good moment there...shame on you. This post should show you what I am talking about, I've never seen a post with so many comments of yours, I guess you should thank your lucky stars steem is down otherwise they'd be busy on the trending post...lol.

these are different tags than I usually post on, I made the hot page in all but one thanks to my 6 STEEM bot vote, I must have asked an engaging question as well, more replies than I have had in a while.

I thought I smelled something burning last night, I thought it was more smoke coming out of California but it was your post all along....lol. Engaging question?.....probably your rep number, I heard a lot of whales went to shore, a 58 rep is the next best thing in line....lol.

It has taken me forever to crack 58

The price has always gone up and down. Everytime it goes down, mass fools sell for a loss, but it will definitely go back up. It always does. It's not if, it's when. It will never go to zero and be worth nothing. There will always be intelligent people who buy low. Steem is not over, and it never will be. Let them panic sell so I can buy more for less!

I was think same... thax that text :)))

I asked the fellow if he was waiting for it to get under a dollar for his powerdown and he flagged my comment. ;)
At this rate I may buy some STEEM but I keep in mind that any website no matter how popular it is today could be Myspace tomorrow.

I never had a MySpace account, but a lot of people told me they all left when they disabled all the groups. Here, changes are voted on, and if most users don't like the propositions, they will correct it since witnesses all want votes. Steemians are already 1 step ahead of the masses who will only use the most popular site all their friends are on. I don't think Steem users will ever all abandon it and move to another site like the sheep sites.

God willing. This particular guy is wrong about most things ;)

There there Bob, am still here...lol. Seems like everitt has made a run for it...he's powered down significantly. Well at least he's not alone in that

I don't really care about the money, but I don't know how long I can keep posting into the wind,

I feel ya. It's a shame people merely see $ compared to what here really could represent. People also don't really want to engage, just grab a quick buck and run

Oh well...i guess only time il tell if steemit survives, guess am the sink or swim type of person

I was posting for free before so I will probably continue. Thanks for the feedback!

howdy this fine Sunday sir funbobby51! I choose to believe it is just a slump. The people who were here last year say the exact same thing happened and then the prices took off in November so we'll see if that's a pattern but I think there is still room for optimism.

If it was just Steem that was down in price then yes but since it's all cryptos I will keep chugging along for awhile. I like this post though, thought-provoking indeed.

I have seen some charts where bitcoin has a run up at the end of the year pretty much every year. I will be powering down in November if I have more than 500 STEEM to catch the December highs. Thanks for the reply!

howdy again sir funbobby51, yes that sounds like a good strategy.

Your not posting into the wind :) But yes its gone quiet.. we will see who does what with the power down.. like myself I started a powerdown to put back into promotion of content just because im broke for now and the next few weeks when usually I happily buy steem and crypto in general, especially at this time !
edit :
I really need to let my vote power go back up lol, ill upvote later :)

No worries, just glad to have the reply and thanks for the resteem!

its just a slump man :)

Are you kidding me? That's every post I make. I know I'm anti-social and have a true following of maybe 10 but I'm still here and I'll be a real fish one day $0.01 SBD at a time, providing a giant EMP from a coronal mass ejection doesn't send us all back to the dark ages.

yeah, I have thought about how much more successful I would be here if I was a nice person but it's not worth it.

@funbobby51 you have just posted what I'm sure many of us are thinking! Yelling HELLOOOOOO at the mountains just hoping to get the echo coming back...... hello hello hello
