New growth or grotesque mutation?
Is it an evolution or a devolution when people adapt to their environment but their position is more damaging than where they were before? Does it still count as intelligence to take a line of more harm? Some say it is just for the short-term while things are the way they are but, what if that prolongs the way things are and, how many really think they will be able to stop their lesser ways?
I read a post by @noisy recommending whales decline comment payouts but, how many really would seriously do that? For those claiming they only upvote for visibility, this is a no-brainer as the value will still promote it up the chain even though they don't get a payout. So anyone making this claim should by default decline the comment payout. Yeah, I don't see it happening en masse either and they will just come up with some other excuse.
This is the slippery slope problem as once on the slide, very few seem to have the will power to come back. I have seen so many people I have respected here in the past give up and join the ranks of those they were fighting. That isn't growth, that is suppression. They have self-censored, changed their behavior from leader to follower and they justify their position as adapting to the new environment. This will take pressure off actions of improvement and speed up the destructive pathways. They don't even attempt to find a middle ground anymore, just hero to zero at lightning speeds.
Where does it all end? Well, where it always does. Those that are unwilling to put up with the incessant scam and lack of personal integrity will move on to centralized versions where at least some authority will police the bad actors. While those who stay and scam will slowly get crushed and blame the 'sellouts' for opening arms to the authorities again. A pathetic cycle that has gone on for millennia.
People can talk about self governance but at the end of the day, we aren't ready as those with the power to demonstrate how power doesn't need corrupt, are the first ones to be corrupted, and the dominoes of anarchy and voluntarism fall all the way down the mountain. Of course, they will not admit to this as it doesn't make them feel good, it bruises their egos.
And the pressure mounts for those who are struggling to maintain.
How long until I give in? Last night was the third night in a row without sleep. Today another 400€ went to specialists and medication for my daughter, my wife is at her grandmother's funeral, bills are mounting. Yet... Still I hold a vision that this place could be something and invest myself to work toward it. People say I am crazy and I can no longer deny the accusation. I must be.
We don't deserve to be free. We haven't earned it. I am tired.

You're right about us not being ready for self governance. For all the talk of freedom, when push comes to shove, human greed will always play a pivotal role in destroying any working system.
It's a shame what the whales are doing to this platform, I try to ignore them and hope for the best
The whales just set examples as they are visible. It takes the community to follow them. It is the same in most political systems people complain about.
There’s no such thing as devolve. You can’t go back to the previous form or state of mind because evolving comes with time and you cannot just turn time back or revert back to what/who it is. Devolution doesn’t just happen. Evolution is a continuation, even when you die you’ve evolved. ☹️
Whoever thinks it's easy then i will advise them one thing, nothing is easy and nothing is hard, everything is our efforts, if we just think of upvotes, then possibly it will suppress our work and inturn our potential growth will also suppress because, instead of thinking about the upvote, start posting original content in whatever your strong category is, don't try to impress, try to satisfy yourself because that's really important, and try to engage with people in comments, and if you do this consistently then in future the upvotes will fall in place automatically because that's the power of healthy and genuine engagement and conversation. Everyone plays their cards at their convenience that is what many do here and in the real world, but I believe in perseverance and that everything must improve.

The same thought quite often passes through my own head, especially when I'm tired. I hope that maybe one day mankind will become enlightened enough to get there, but it'll take generations.

I'm not sure I fully understand this is post. You made different statements Evolution Versus Devolution, Bullies versus The Bullied Leaders versus Followers, Power and Status Quo, Independence versus Suppression and You mentioned your own life.
To properly answer these quotes in my opinion requires answering each quote Separately. My reply may be long but it is addressing each topic on your post separately.
I'm sorry to hear about your recent problems what ever religion you believe in pray to it for solutions to your problem and have faith that your problems may be resolved.
I noticed there were indeed way more upvotes than comments to your post. I received an upvote error when attempting to give you one before my reply. I tried twice before giving up I have had other problems with Steemit today and do not know the source.
In my opinion Evolution occurs because of the will to solve problems, so if Evolution is caused by the quest for answers could it be that sticking ones head in the sand and giving up caused Devolution? I am fortunate not to have had bulling in my life but in my opinion there is no reasoning with a bully because you don't know what they are after therefore the best thing to do is walk away from their circle of influence and report them to the proper authorities. Power and the status quo are linked to one another. One who is in power will do anything to keep it. The status quo does quite the opposite but acquires the same result by encouraging one direction without worry of consequences. This need to follow what everyone else is doing may actually help to keep the power hungry in that position. When it comes to Independence each person has the sole right to determine what is and is not their independence. That said anyone who obtained power through oppression does not care about the independence of other people.
If your posts and comments benefit the Steemit community as I believe they do then you should be rewarded for them.
I honestly feel for you. I have been where you are in the past. Actually truth be told I am probably still there. Hang in there I am growing quickly and will give you big votes lol. Not funny but we have to be positive and just do our best. Why are we like this? The morals get in the way only for the few. Personally if you are backed up against a wall and it's your family we understand. Do what you have to do for the time being if needed we know it's not the true you.
