I'm a little jealous over ONO's marketing.

As I was checking in with friends and family on Facebook yesterday, I noticed ads for ONO, a social media site that will be launched soon on EOS. My theory is they did some type of targeted marketing campaign, focusing on those who have talked about Crypto, but it seems it was targeted, paid for marketing. I admit I felt a little jealous.

It was hard not to feel envy that they are out there pitching their products with money and hype. I don't know what SteemIt, Inc. will do once the next hardfork is complete, but I hope the changes in the signup process will allow for Marketing.

With the focus of SteemIt, Inc being on the blockchain, I don't know that we will see this happen. I'm guessing it will be up to the various front-ends to market and bring people to the Steem blockchain.

While I do look forward to the competition, I don't have any plans to "move" to Ono, and actually, I've noticed some of their marketing even mentions SteemIt and if they are reaching a new audience, Content Creators and investors might learn about SteemIt via Ono's marketing. As with anything new and exciting in Crypto it will be interesting to watch and see what features they have in place on the launch.

Regardless of my envy, I am FOR crypto. I am for innovation, products, and education for crypto. We've had two-years to build our community and products, and I still think we are ahead.

Competition is coming, and that is nearly always a good thing. I'm looking forward to watching things develop.

I will probably post a few stories over there to check it out. However, I will never leave my beloved Steemit.

Of course, most will check it out. I think that is part of why competition is a good thing. It puts pressure on the platfrom to create loyalty or end up losing some end-users.

I also have a lot of investment and time into Steem and I don't see that going away, but let's face it most people are going to go where they feel the most successful based on however they "judge" success.

Many Content Creators already post on many different forums, in reality, this will likely just be one more place for a lot of content to end up.

I am also curious to see how both communities react to cross-posting.

Incidentally, I think Ono already have a presence on Steemit here: @onosocial

I've been here 5 minutes and already feel loyal lol.

Like you say, competition is healthy. Great ideas are often born out of competition. :)

I have no loyalty towards any one platform. I will use whatever is best. If the new one is better than this, i will switch over. As simple as that.

I think that is a reasonable position to take and very honest.

Any loyalty I have is to a few friendships and my own stake and effort, It would take something pretty fancy to pull me away from the community and the effort I've put in, but beyond that what would be the reason for loyalty.

In my former company we worked a lot on trying to develop "stickiness and loyalty" from our end-users. This doesn't work the same, so it will be interesting to see what happens with it.

People don't have money to invest in steemit which is running well. They can't invest in eos or ono either. We know who will earn: here and there.

This is a really good point. It's true, I think they will gain some of our, "It's not fair" people. :)

At the same time, those people will likely notice it will not be fair over there either.

Exactly.

I kept digging for someone who will say the obvious.

Can someone go over there and start a negative bazillion dollar power down ....

....tisk, tisk now. lol

I might check it out. I have some other types of content that doesn't really fit into the niches that I post in here so maybe I can use it for that. Or I can be super lazy and use it as a "best of" for my steemit content lol.

I like this site and I have been building a following here so I have no plans to abandon this place.

Do you know when it is supposed to launch?

Early Oct is what I think. I'm not sure though.

Thanks. I will keep an eye out.

I think competition is good for the space and we will see what Ono can come up with. I mainly imagine we will all show up on the other platforms and just circle jerk each other on every blockchain possible

Haha, true! Good idea.

Not sure if I will peek at their site or not. I have read several things that has convinced me that the grass isn't greener applies here (as it usually does). I already spend more time than I should here, not sure how I would find time for there as well.

I posted sometime back about my epiphany that Steemit was little more than a demo to show what is possible once the SMT is rolled out. I will continue the little earning I do here and hope they keep this rolling once they roll them out. Worst case as I see it is they take off, they shut this down and my little slivers of Steem are worth what it would take me years to earn using physical labor.

I agree, right now we are working on the vision. It is a baby. The launch of EOS should show they don't even know what they don't know yet.

I like to see the entire industry developing and getting better though.

To me, the biggest advantage ONO will have is the permanently open payment window... I understand Steem has its own reasons for cutting the vote availability to older content, but as someone who has made a few very time-consuming posts, ONO's model is very appealing.

I'm hoping there will be a SMT solution for great content that no longer fits the 7 day rules, since I'm still big on Steem!

I'd really like to understand the why's of Steem's lack of marketing or even an active Twitter presence... I just hope it doesn't backfire in the long-run :-/

And, as much as I hate to say it, get ready for a bunch of cheap knock-offs of the Steem blockchain. That's what concerns me the most.

That is a good point regarding the long-term payouts. Many Content Creators have talked about that issue for a long time!

From what I've heard, SMTs can be a testing ground for different payout models, I think it'd make good sense to offer (in some way) what other competing platforms intend to offer... Maybe the "GPT" will have a wider pay window - or none at all...

a bunch of cheap knock-offs of the Steem blockchain

That would be a sign that STEEM is doing something right...no-one copies a failing project .

I would be concerned if I was focused upon Steemit. Since I think that is going to really drop in the application rankings over time, I am not concerned.

This blockchain has a lot more going for it. In fact, I feel that we will eventually see a blogging/social interaction interface that makes Steemit passe. I do not know what it is but it is coming...from someone.

The development on here is what most impresses me. That is where our future lies....get the applications going and see which one is a homerun.

But you are right, Steemit's marketing is non-existent (I guess by design).

I'm loving steempeak right now. I keep stumbling on new, cool features. The main guy, @jarvie is very responsive and keen to hear feedback.
I think it might end up taking over.

Due to this comment, I tried steemspeak and I do really like it. Pretty cool. Thanks for the headsup

No worries. So nice to see a solid competitor; the steempeak team have a lot more scope to try out new things without freaking out the majority.
Each can learn from what works in the other.

But you are right, Steemit's marketing is non-existent (I guess by design).

A little while ago Luke Stokes talked about this very thing. Steemit, which is a Dapp built on top of Steem is just a proof of concept. A bucket of legos that got spread on the ground for us to play with.

The idea is that we, the users of Steem build on top of it the applications we find valuable and then, those applications would be the one to get marketed to the world, sort of speak.

So yes, I pretty much see it your way.

Yep, that is how I see it too. It feels like herding cats sometimes though.

That is great to hear! I'm going to have to check it out.

I'm not concerned. Just interested. :)

Exactly. There's plenty of room for all of us. I read the Ono white paper, and it was really short on nuts and bolts.
It seemed to say, 'You know that thing you hate about steem, well we've solved that', without getting bogged down in the specifics one might look for if they were reading a white paper for example.

Haha! I noticed that also.

SteemIt, is bad, we are good.

I think they will get some hype and people will check it out. They will also have distribution problems, and an inability to control their users. I know this because... That is how life, money and human's work. :)

They are going to use a FB system of likes and dislikes, if people don't like your stuff and dislike it it loses money, if it's really bad it will disappear after so many dislikes and if what someone publishes is continually disliked they also disappear.....lol.
